Welcome to our weddings guide for Spring 2016.

If you are getting married in 2016 or 2017 it can be hard to know where to start. But deciding on the ‘feel’ you want, the words you hope your guests will use when they tell others about it afterwards, is a good place to begin. Then the biggest decision is probably the venue and we have some great ideas, from a wonderful garden venue with private beach, to coastal retreats, something just a little bit quirky or how about getting married right on the harbour side in Porthleven?

We have some top tips from a wedding planner to kick-start your ideas, from taking a spare pair of flat shoes for dancing the night away, to not fretting too much about the weather. Some of the best weddings we reminisced about in the office were ones where it poured with rain and we remember having a fabulous time! Apparently for one winter wedding the bride and bridesmaids all wore wellies! And you don’t need clear blue skies for great photographs, lovely though they are, a stormy sky can be much more atmospheric.

Recently, Head Chef Oliver Wood has taken over the kitchen, coming from an excellent renowned seafood eatery in Looe. He hopes to bring even more substance and style to the already fantastic food.

Keep an open mind when it comes to dress shopping. Yes, it’s good to have an idea of what you like and, of course, what budget you have to spend, but don’t spend ages obsessing over a particular dress or designer.

Experienced bridal boutique owners will be able to advise you on what colour suits your skin tone or which style of dress may compliment you. Remember, they do this day in day out and see lots of different shapes and sizes. They may even pick out a complete wildcard for you to try on that you love, while the dress you had built up in your mind actually did not suit you at all.

Some couples are reluctant to put together a gift list, but, trust me, guests really appreciate it! They would much rather purchase something for you that they know you will genuinely like or need. I have had guests calling me and asking for suggestions for my couples before who had not provided a gift list. This works wonderfully, as its likely lots of people you won’t have seen for ages. Everyone will want to talk to you and its unlikely you’ll get the chance to speak to them all. This way the Friday night can give you time with aunties, uncles or friends to catch up, leaving you much freer on your day, without the feeling of pressure to talk to everyone. The Sunday is always fun to talk over the wedding day, look over photos and take the micky out of people for their terrible dancing!
