KILMINORTH COTTAGES

Make it a day to remember

From their first wedding in 2013, Jayne and the team at Kilminorth Cottages have been working hard to offer couples a truly individual wedding experience. Think fire pits, dancing under the stars, sparklers, lanterns hanging in trees, bunting and festoon lighting. In short, if you’re in need of a venue that’s happy to let your imagination run wild, it comes highly recommended!

Surrounded by breathtaking countryside, Kilminorth’s’ 32-acre estate is made up of a beautiful mix of landscaped gardens, large formal gardens and meadows. It is truly a superb venue for your big day. There are 14 self-catering cottages on site too, eight of which enjoy their own private hot tubs, and nothing beats soaking beneath the stars and gazing up at the night’s sky with a glass of something chilled. www.kilminorthcottages.co.uk

A coastal escape

BECKONS

A five-star hideaway offering restrained luxury and exceptional seaside dining.

On Cornwall’s South Coast, where the Roseland Peninsula curves away from the crowds, The Nare offers an experience that balances luxury with an understated and genuine welcome. This five-star country house hotel sits alone above Carne Beach, offering uninterrupted views of white sand and the surf beyond, providing guests with a level of seclusion rare in Cornwall’s more visited summer spots. It is precisely this combination of comfort and discretion that has earned The Nare a reputation as a hidden gem, where you can shut out the madding crowd.

There is a depth to the accommodation that is hard to find these days, ranging from elegantly appointed rooms to sea-view suites with bespoke interiors, some of which include private hot tubs. Every detail has been considered.

Leisure options are extensive. Guests may swim in the indoor or outdoor pool, relax in the spa or hot tub, or take advantage of tennis courts, gym facilities and croquet lawns. The hotel’s own motor launch, Alice Rose, is available for private charter, complete with a coxswain and steward to serve a freshly prepared lobster lunch accompanied by champagne, offering a maritime excursion

that complements the luxury stay. And for couples seeking a honeymoon or mini-moon, the hotel’s chauffeur service removes the usual stresses of travel, allowing them to arrive and settle in with ease.

Dining at The Nare is a considered affair. The formal Dining Room is a silver-service venue, where table-side presentations and flambéed dishes elevate every gastronomic experience into a voyage of discovery. Guests are encouraged to dress for the event, for that’s what it is, making it particularly suited for couples celebrating their first days of married life. For those seeking a less formal option, the Quarterdeck Seafood Restaurant provides relaxed surroundings and an emphasis on local catches, ensuring that all tastes are accommodated.

The Nare revels in Cornwall’s natural beauty but carries forth the refinement of traditional British hospitality. It is a place to linger, to savour, and to return to with fond memories of your first stay.

CRAFTING TREASURES

Tucked away in the seaside village of Porthleven, the Jewellery Workshop operates as a place where craftsmanship is venerated. Here, items of personal significance are given a second life. A worn ring, a faded necklace or a well-loved bracelet may arrive tarnished or broken, but they leave restored, reworked or completely reimagined. Using traditional techniques and modern tools, the team transforms heirloom gold and silver into contemporary designs that retain the emotional value of the original.

The workshop specialises in bespoke commission work, working closely with customers to craft jewellery that is personal and made to last. Whether reworking inherited pieces or creating a meaningful design from scratch, the process is collaborative and relies upon consultation and feedback. Even details like sand from a meaningful beach can be pressed into the metal, creating a permanent link to a specific time or place.

Alongside made-to-order work, the workshop is home to a distinctive range of sand-cast rings, each one shaped by hand, organic in form and individual in character. There's also a regularly changing collection of pre-owned jewellery, carefully

selected for quality, and new collections by independent UK makers, including a range of titanium pieces. Lightweight, hypoallergenic and highly durable, each titanium item is anodised to a vibrant colour using an electric current.

In addition to jewellery, the workshop is Cornwall's only stockist of Zeppelin, Bauhaus and Bauhaus Aviation watches. These German-made models are available in both quartz and mechanical versions, with a focus on clean design and solid engineering.

The workshop also offers professional repair services, from ring resizing to watch battery replacement, engraving to pearl restringing. They also buy scrap gold and silver at competitive rates. Repairs are carried out with attention to detail and a high standard of finish.

The staff are welcoming and happy to discuss designs, catering to varying tastes and budgets. Whether you're a local or a visitor, it's worth stopping by.
