The expanding reach of Kernow Springs
Kernow Springs is extending its reach in 2026, taking hot and cold immersion therapy to new audiences across Cornwall and beyond. Three new builds underline that momentum: a dedicated sauna for armed forces personnel at RNAS Culdrose, a commercial trailer sauna designed for Dorset’s beaches, and a further community sauna for St Martin’s on the Isles of Scilly, the second delivered to the islands.
Alternating heat and cold is widely used to support circulation, reduce muscle soreness
and aid recovery after physical exertion. The contrast encourages blood flow, eases inflammation and supports mental clarity, combining the restorative effects of heat with the invigorating impact of cold. For service peersonnel, swimmers, surfers and everyday users alike, it offers a structured way to reset the body, manage stress and build physical and mental resilience. Muddy Wellies Gardens creates landscapes designed for long-term enjoyment, shaped by informed design and sustained through thoughtful, ongoing care. The company is guided by a simple principle: to do things properly, even when no one is watching.
Founded in 2008, the business has grown steadily, with the majority of its commissions arising through recommendation and enduring client relationships. A highly personal approach underpins every project, with clients always able to speak directly to someone who knows their garden intimately. From initial design through to garden maintenance, the same experienced team remains involved, ensuring continuity, accountability and a consistently high standard of delivery.
Each garden is approached as a unique environment, informed by soil type, drainage, exposure, access and intended use. Designs are created to encourage engagement with outdoor spaces, fostering a sense of excitement and connection that reflects the team’s own enthusiasm for gardens. Landscaping is undertaken by trained, permanent staff who understand how early construction decisions shape planting success and long-term management.
This considered approach is reflected in the company’s professional standing.
Muddy Wellies Gardens is one of only six BALI Accredited Contractors operating in Cornwall and is a member of both The Gardeners Guild and the Cornwall Professional Gardeners Group. In 2025, it was shortlisted for the Prestige Awards’ Landscaping Company of the Year, recognised for technical competence, site standards and consistency of delivery.
Passionate about the future of the industry, the company actively invests in its people, maintaining rigorous standards in training, compliance, health and safety.
Muddy Wellies Gardens offer apprenticeship opportunities to bring new people in to the industry, helping to maintain a sustainable workforce in the county.
For clients undertaking substantial garden projects, Muddy Wellies Gardens offers a single point of responsibility, clear thinking and a team equally committed to construction excellence and long-term stewardship.

The Penventon Family-owned for more than half a century, Penventon Park Hotel is an enduring example of how a Cornish hotel can compete at the top without falling for passing trends. Set in secluded grounds on the edge of Redruth, the Georgian manor blends European elegance with Cornish character, rich interiors and a fiercely independent spirit shaped by decades of independent evolution. Signature touches, from the copper bar honouring the area’s mining heritage to homemade jams still prepared from the original owner’s recipe, lend a personal warmth that guests pick up on instantly.
The experience continues through seasonally inspired dining, a celebrated wine and cocktail programme and well-considered wellness facilities designed for proper rest and restoration. Dog-friendly in the truest sense, the hotel offers bespoke amenities for four-legged guests alongside easy access to beaches, coastal paths and woodland walks. With plans for dedicated dog-friendly dining and immersive wine tasting rooms, Penventon Park Hotel remains one of the most distinctive Cornish hotels; one that treads a line between distinctive hospitality and modern expectation. www.penventon.co.uk easy access to beaches, coastal dog-friendly dining and

Greenbank has an enviable waterside location
The Greenbank
Overlooking the River Fal, The Greenbank has welcomed guests since 1640 and holds a special place in Cornwall’s cultural history. In 1907, Kenneth Grahame stayed here, drawing inspiration from the ever-changing water views that later shaped The Wind in the Willows. Today, the hotel still hovers between land and sea, with the gentle clink of rigging and the scent of salt carried on the breeze.
At the Water’s Edge restaurant, Head Chef Bobby Southworth celebrates Cornwall’s farmers, fishermen and foragers through seasonal menus that shift with the weather. Rooms reflect the hotel’s close relationship with the river, while the Florence and Lookout Suites offer generous proportions, roll-top baths and expansive views that deliver both comfort and calm.

The Alverton Situated just off Tregolls Road, near the heart of Truro, The Alverton began life in 1830 as a private family home before becoming a convent in the late 19th century. The addition of the Great Hall, designed by the architects behind Truro Cathedral, lends the building a sense of reverence that still resonates today. Step inside and the atmosphere remains calm and contemplative, with soaring arches, stained glass and ivy-clad gardens creating an unexpected feeling of seclusion within the city. The hotel’s luxurious suites combine period features with modern comfort, while the restaurant showcases local produce with delicate simplicity. Afternoon tea beneath the Great Hall’s windows remains a highlight. Michaels Resort
St Michaels Resort in Falmouth reveals itself gradually. Set above Gyllyngvase Beach amid subtropical planting, its modest exterior disguises a substantial spa hotel devoted to comfort and wellbeing. This honeypot of delight offers 92 light-filled rooms, spa garden lodges, family and accessible accommodation, all designed with an emphasis on rest and rejuvenation. At its centre is Cornwall’s largest health club, with pool, gym and classes that prioritise restoration over competition.
Interiors flow from reception to lounges, bars and event spaces, creating a sense of continuity often missing in other hotels. Dining is led by Brasserie on the Bay, overseen by local chef Dave Waters, where seasonal Cornish produce and sustainably sourced seafood dominate, alongside the more informal, seafacing Nourish café-restaurant.Beyond the main building lie self-catering apartments and extensive additional leisure facilities, including a 70-metre indoor pool. The overall impression is of an understated, carefully layered resort that offers far more than it initially suggests. The Falmouth
Resounding in splendid glory on the seafront since 1865, The Falmouth is one of Cornwall’s most recognisable Victorian hotels. Built during the expansion of the Great Western Railway, it embodied the era’s passion for seaside escapes. Today, the hotel enters a new chapter as part of the Cornwall Hotel Collection, with its grandeur carefully preserved. Inside, high ceilings and sweeping staircases recall its past, while 71 rooms, many with uninterrupted sea views, offer front-row seats to Cornwall’s dramatic coastline. Housel Bay
Housel Bay, the most southerly hotel on mainland Britain, occupies an unique position on Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula, offering a form of hospitality that resists easy definition. With 23 bedrooms, each designed to invite calm and connection with the landscape, guests wake to panoramic Atlantic views, rolling countryside and the wild beauty of the Lizard.
Dining is integral to the experience. Fallowfields, the hotel’s signature restaurant, is featured in the Michelin Guide and is one of only five restaurants in Cornwall to hold three AA rosettes, presenting an imaginative, seasonally driven tasting menu in an intimate setting. The Terrace is matched by stunning sea views from breakfast and afternoon tea through to dinner, with menus celebrating the very best of Cornish produce.

Generous spaces encourage pause, from a yoga studio and a snug for boat-watching to the hotel’s garden, where ocean views invite stillness. Direct beach access and the South West Coast Path, reached from the garden gate, keep nature firmly at the heart of a stay at Housel Bay. www.houselbay.com
Bodmin Jail Hotel
At Bodmin Jail Hotel, visitors confront a chapter of Cornwall’s past with an experience that is both intriguing and carefully put together. Set within the thick stone walls of the former county jail, the hotel offers themed stays that place guests in historical roles, from partaking in a guided tour of the building’s story, to choosing a more elevated package with refined dining and private insights into its architecture.
Original features, such as the cell doors and vaulted stonework, remain visible alongside contemporary comforts, creating interiors that retain character without compromising on comfort. Communal spaces like The Chapel Restaurant serve menus created from local produce, while lounges and bars provide spaces to reflect on the day’s discoveries. Beyond accommodation, the onsite museum and historical tours reveal the jail’s evolution from an 18th-century prison to a modern hospitality destination, making a stay here a compelling blend of heritage and hospitality. www.bodminjailhotel.com

The Bay, Coverack – welcoming you while supporting the community in which it resides
The Bay
The family-owned Bay Hotel in Coverack has rediscovered its strengths by turning towards, rather than away from, its setting and community. Under owner Nick Sanders, at the helm since 2015, the hotel has moved beyond fleeting trends to build a business rooted in local life. That philosophy is evident in the atmosphere: a warm, informal welcome, familiar faces, and a sense that guests are entering something closer to a shared household than a conventional hotel.
Running a hotel on the Lizard Peninsula remains demanding, particularly outside peak season, but general manager Caroline Beadle and her team have worked hard to extend opening months, create year-round roles and develop events and packages that steady cash flow and staffing. Employing locally, supporting village initiatives and sourcing from nearby producers are central to the model, as is a dog-friendly policy that suits coastal walkers.
Approaching its centenary, The Bay favours sustainability and belonging, seeing its future as inseparable from that of Coverack. www.thebayhotel.co.uk
St Moritz Hotel
St Moritz Hotel on the north Cornish coast combines hotel living with villas and garden apartments designed for flexible, low-key stays. Accommodation ranges from interconnected room “pods” for families to self-contained villas that offer privacy but still benefit from full hotel services. The interiors are restrained and practical, incorporating open-plan layouts with natural materials, which contribute to a laid-back experience.
There’s a very welcome attention to detail at St Moritz that is often missed at other establishments. Mindful of staying ahead of the hospitality curve, guests can pre-order groceries, arrange private chefs or organise informal gatherings with concierge support.
Food is central. The Shorecrest Restaurant works strictly around seasonal local produce, sourcing fish, meat and vegetables from nearby boats, farms and suppliers.

Budock Vean
At Budock Vean Hotel, the offer extends beyond a simple overnight stay to encompass an embedded experience on Cornwall’s Helford River. Housed within an estate of 65 acres of gardens, woodlands and parkland, the property combines traditional hotel rooms with self-catering lodges and cottages, each granting full access to the hotel’s facilities, including the Natural Health Spa, indoor pool, golf course and tennis courts.
Meals rely on Cornish produce, with the main restaurant’s breakfast and terrace menus drawing praise and awards for their quality and consistency. Afternoon tea and seasonal lunch options sit alongside an inclusive dinner offer that guests can add when booking direct. There are multiple lounges and bars where guests can catch up over a drink or settle in after a round of golf or a paddle on the river. You really won’t be at a loss as to where to head next!
Beyond rooms and communal spaces, the hotel’s calendar of themed breaks and activities, from spa weekends to guided kayaking excursions, invites visitors to shape their stay around their own interests, whether that means picking up a racket, perfecting a swing or exploring woodland paths and riverbanks at will. www.budockvean.co.uk
Watergate Bay Hotel
The Watergate Bay Hotel presents a proposition that goes beyond the familiar seaside stay, offering a blend of contemporary living, ambitious programming and a strong emphasis on experiences. Its portfolio of rooms includes beach lofts with sliding windows looking directly out to the ocean, family apartments with space to spread out and sea-view suites complete with roll-top baths for visitors who want a degree of differentiation in how they spend their evenings.
Food and drink are prominent elements that the hotel can be rightly proud of. Three restaurants occupy different positions around the Bay: Zacry’s on the Seawall offers a more conventional evening format showcasing seasonal ingredients; The Beach Hut sits close to the sand with an informal menu and The Living Space provides a broad choice of small plates and cocktails set against a backdrop of broad views. The hotel’s Swim Club houses a 25-metre infinity pool, sauna, cardio studio and treatment spaces where visitors can choose to engage in movement or stillness.
On-site activity options are significant. Wavehunters, the associated surf and watersports provider, caters to all abilities from first-timers to those pressing further into paddleboard or surfing techniques, and the hotel’s event calendar lays on everything from meet-ups to championships. www.watergatebay.co.uk

Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa
The Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa adopts an adults-only approach to contemporary hospitality, shaped around comfort, with a strong emphasis on wellbeing. Bedrooms are restrained in design, inducing a feeling of clarity with many offering sea views, balconies or terraces, while practical details such as generous bathrooms aligned with space to unwind make the stay feel relaxed. Guests don’t need to be encouraged to slow their pace, whether that means lingering over breakfast or retreating early after a day outdoors.
Central to the experience is the spa, where a heated indoor pool, hydrotherapy facilities, sauna and treatment rooms form a coherent programme focused on restoration. Yoga sessions and tailored therapies add structure for those seeking a more delineated break.
Dining continues the measured tone, with the Bay Bar and Dune Restaurant serving menus built around seasonal produce and straightforward execution, matched with an extensive wine list and informal service.
By restricting its focus to adult guests, the hotel is able to create an environment suited to couples and solo travellers looking for space to rest, swim, eat well and return home recalibrated. Read more on page 24 www.fistralbeachhotel.co.uk
The Esplanade Hotel
The Esplanade Hotel in Newquay positions itself as a lively, family-oriented destination with direct access to one of the UK’s bestknown surf beaches. Rated as a four-star establishment, it places a strong emphasis on comfort and variety, with a range of room options that suit couples, families and groups, many of which offer views towards the Atlantic. Facilities extend to include a heated indoor pool with a splash area for children, a sauna and hot tub, a 30-seat cinema and both indoor and outdoor play spaces that make it straightforward for families to spend extended periods on site without feeling the need to go elsewhere.
Dining takes place in the ocean-facing Cove Restaurant, where menus shift with the seasons and make the most of regional produce, while the Elements Cocktail Bar provides an informal spot to relax after a day of beach activity. An on-site Quiksilver Surf School offers lessons and equipment hire at discounted rates for guests, underlining the hotel’s connection to surf culture and active breaks.

APPEAL
Self-catering stays with sea access, spa facilities and Falmouth’s exciting calendar close at hand.
At the eastern curve of Gyllyngvase Beach, St Michaels Resort has long occupied a particular niche in Falmouth’s hospitality scene, the epitome of a well-run and comfortable hotel catering to guests who intend to stay a while.
Although the hotel and spa are known in their own right, it is the resort’s self-catering apartments that increasingly draw families and groups of friends looking for space and flexibility during their stay.
Set just above or a short stroll from the sands of Gylly Beach, the resort’s selfcatered apartments place guests firmly within reach of the shoreline and the wider resort. Arranged across a range of buildings and layouts, they are designed with shared stays in mind, offering generous living areas alongside well-equipped kitchens and dining spaces that make time together feel easy rather than improvised. Whether travelling with children, extended family or friends, guests can settle into a rhythm that suits them, without forfeiting the amenities of a full-service resort.
Every apartment booking includes access to St Michaels’ Health Club, a significant draw in itself. The indoor pool and gym are shared by guests and members, creating a
relaxed, lived-in atmosphere rather than something purely transient. Early swims, restorative sessions after coastal walks, or a straightforward workout before breakfast all slip naturally into the day. For many visitors, having everything close at hand removes the need to choose between venturing far afield or staying close to home base.
Location plays its part too. Gylly Beach is moments away, while Falmouth’s town centre can be reached easily on foot along the seafront. The town’s lively events calendar adds further incentive. Spring brings the Falmouth Spring Flower Show at Princess Pavilion, followed by Falmouth Pride in April and the Food Festival in May. In June, the Sea Shanty Festival returns, with St Michaels acting as one of its hosts, bringing music and colour directly to the resort. For the latest offers on self-catered apartments, guests are encouraged to visit the St Michaels Resort website, where new incentives are introduced regularly.

BY CHANGEPowered
The trends driving demand into 2026 have their roots in the preceding year.
John Bray Cornish Holidays enters 2026 with confidence, following a year of changing guest behaviour and evolving booking trends across Cornwall.
Across the county, fluctuating search volumes for UK breaks created a more competitive landscape in 2025, yet demand for North Cornwall holidays remained resilient, driven by customers seeking flexibility, spontaneity and high-quality coastal escapes.
The wider Cornish market continued to see a clear rise in late bookings, with 28% of stays secured within four weeks of arrival and 18% booked within a week, a trend heavily influenced by weather-dependent planners and the growing popularity of spur-of-the-moment getaways. Short breaks also held strong, accounting for 28% of all bookings, reflecting a national shift towards more frequent, shorter UK trips. Petfriendly stays, which now account for 27% of bookings, continue to be a major driver of guest decision-making, with these properties delivering higher occupancy and revenue on average.
Across the John Bray Cornish Holidays portfolio, several standout properties helped define a successful 2025. Point Break in Polzeath saw an impressive 48 bookings last year and is already building momentum for the year ahead, with 27 confirmed for 2026. West Cottage followed closely with 39
bookings in 2025 and 23 already secured for the new season, while Trevan House enjoyed 32 bookings and 22 already booked for 2026*.
Looking ahead, early bookings for 2026 across Cornwall are very encouraging. Bookings for the season are up on the same point as last year, with particular demand for the spring and summer. This positive start has been bolstered by the rapid rise of AI-assisted holiday planning. With 70% of UK holidaymakers now using AI platforms in their search and decision-making process, digital discovery is accelerating.
Underpinning this momentum is the strength of the John Bray Cornish Holidays brand. A trusted name in North Cornwall for over 50 years, the agency combines local expertise from its Rock and Port Isaac teams with the powerful marketing reach of Sykes Holiday Cottages, which includes an annual £35m marketing budget, dual platform visibility with access to 700+ partner sites.

SANCTUARY
Push open the door to the secret garden and uncover The Alverton during Cornwall’s softest season.
Hidden on a secret hillside in the heart of Cornwall’s cathedral city, The Alverton provides a fresh and unfurling backdrop of greenery as spring makes its way to Truro, shrouded as it is by ancient trees and well-established grounds.
Dating back to 1830, a secret garden surrounds grand architecture that once began as a manor house, and even housed a convent. Today, this ivy-edged hotel is a luxurious retreat for all who might seek a little springtime sanctuary.
Sink-into beds occupy opulent rooms, each one designed to make the most of its gorgeous heritage, while contemporary touches accompany unique, original features. Think roll-top tubs and cosy furnishings, a view of the gardens from an arched window.
Downstairs, the two AA-Rosette awarded restaurant makes for quiet moments made for two over fine flavours and perfect pairings. With provenance and seasonality always in mind, Head Chef Ollie Wyatt’s menus offer an indulgent glimpse into the very best local ingredients, always with a side of classic Cornish hospitality.
A list of signature cocktails may well tempt you to take up a seat in the bar, warmed on cold days by a flickering open fire. On bright spring days, a seat on the terrace under the trees is made complete with a lavish afternoon tea, or a glass of something chilled before the evening draws in and cosy beds beckon.
What’s more, for those looking to make the most of Cornwall’s softest season, The Alverton’s Cornish Spring Getaway offers a stay for two from £159, with the added perk of a cream tea to share, or a classic cocktail each, not to mention a delicious breakfast every morning.
With the train station nearby, the best of the county's beaches, towns and attractions are well within reach of this historic hotel.

St Austell Brewery continues its long-standing commitment to preserving its South West pubs.
Rooted in Cornwall for 175 years, St Austell Brewery has long championed and invested in its iconic South West pubs. Its latest project, the transformation of the Royal Castle in Dartmouth, continues that commitment to safeguarding our region’s vital pubs.
Following a nine-month renovation, the company has breathed new life into the historic 17th-century inn, revealing its sympathetic new look at the end of last year. The Royal Castle, proudly positioned on Dartmouth’s harbourfront, has been sensitively restored with great care. St Austell Brewery, which operates pubs across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, has worked meticulously to preserve the building’s period character while revitalising it for the future.
Throughout the renovation, key elements have been reused and repurposed. Existing timber wall panelling has been retained, furniture has been reupholstered, and listed timber floorboards have been carefully restored. The pub’s Victorian windows, previously hidden behind later partitions, are now back on display, bringing natural light and craftsmanship to the fore. Outside, a soft, paleplaster finish echoes the building’s likely original stone façade and complements Dartmouth’s coastal surroundings.
All 24 bedrooms, many with sweeping views across the Dart Estuary, have been refreshed with a new look inspired by the pub’s waterside location. Across the building, guests can enjoy a choice of bar areas and dining experiences. On the ground floor, the Dory Lounge provides a relaxed setting for informal drinks and light bites, complete with a dedicated sports viewing area. The Ketch Bar offers cosy nooks and open fires, while a more traditional pub atmosphere awaits towards the rear. Upstairs, the Sloop serves everything from morning coffee to late-night cocktails, complemented by a private dining area available for hire.
The Royal Castle’s restoration is the seventh major refurbishment in St Austell Brewery’s managed estate in the past three years, following significant projects at the Wellington in Boscastle, the Pier House in Charlestown and most recently, the Pedn Olva in St Ives. Each project underscores the company’s deep commitment to investing in the South West’s pubs, people and places.

Coast path
BY TRAIN
The South West Coast Path is widely celebrated as one of the world’s most spectacular long-distance walking routes. Stretching for 630 miles (1,014 km) from Minehead in Somerset to Poole Harbour in Dorset, it is the longest National Trail in the UK and a bucket list experience for walkers of all abilities.
Whether you’re tackling the entire 630 mile stretch, the 300 miles of Cornwall coastline or simply looking for a stroll before lunch, the Coast Path is for everyone. Nine million people visit the South West Coast Path every year to experience the natural beauty, cultural heritage, and the communities who help make it a route that stays with you long after your boots have left the trail.
Unfortunately, the Coast Path faces numerous challenges due to climate change, such as regular storm damage, coastal erosion and rising sea levels. The South West Coast Path Association is actively working to combat these impacts through volunteer efforts and a future-proofing plan. They are also collaborating with partners to develop strategies that will help protect and improve
the trail for future generations. One way we can all help do our bit to reverse the effects of climate change (and by extension its impact upon our national trails and footpaths) is by switching the car for the train.
Cornwall’s rail network reaches further than many people assume. Services to Penzance, Looe, Newquay and Falmouth connect directly with some of the most rewarding sections of the Coast Path, and new walking maps installed at five stations set out clear circular routes completed entirely on foot or by using public transport. The maps are the result of a partnership between Great Western Railway, the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership and the South West Coast Path Association.
From Penzance station, walkers can step straight onto routes that reveal the varied character of Mount’s Bay. The walk to Mousehole, at 3.6 miles, suits a half-day outing with time for a harbour-side lunch before catching a bus home. Those wanting a longer stretch can head towards Marazion for a 6.8-mile circular route, or commit to the 10.9-mile route to Porthcurno, where

the path threads past headlands and coves before looping back by bus.
Looe station provides access to some of the Coast Path’s most testing terrain. The 5.7-mile walk to the picturesque fishing village of Polperro balances steep climbs with sheltered sections. You can either retrace your steps or catch the bus back to Looe. While the route of the 7.3-mile ‘Talland Bay and Giant’s Hedge’ walk includes an ancient oak woodland, quiet coves and dramatic cliffs. For experienced walkers, the 8.7-mile stretch to Portwrinkle offers a full day out packed with high cliff paths, urban landscapes, rocky coves, incredible views, and reassurance that you can rest your feet on the bus back.
Newquay’s reputation as a surf town often overshadows its walking potential, yet the station sits close to several compact Coast Path routes. The 3.1-mile walk to the Gannel estuary works well as a morning circuit,
while routes to Trevelgue Head and the Twin Headlands, both around five miles, explore exposed ground with wide views before circling back into town. These are walks that suit spring conditions, when days lengthen and services are frequent.
Falmouth benefits from two stations that widen the options further. From Falmouth Town or Falmouth Docks, walkers can take in Pendennis Castle on a 4-mile loop, follow the two-mile Falmouth Packet walk for a shorter outing, or cross the water to reach the 5-mile St Just in Roseland route. The ability to mix train and ferry travel adds variety without complicating the plan.
Travelling by train removes the need to find parking at busy coastal villages and allows walkers to focus on the route ahead.

BECKONS
A five-star hideaway offering restrained luxury and exceptional seaside dining.
On Cornwall’s South Coast, where the Roseland Peninsula curves away from the crowds, The Nare offers an experience that balances luxury with an understated and genuine welcome. This five-star country house hotel sits alone above Carne Beach, offering uninterrupted views of white sand and the surf beyond, providing guests with a level of seclusion rare in Cornwall’s more visited summer spots. It is precisely this combination of comfort and discretion that has earned The Nare a reputation as a hidden gem, where you can shut out the madding crowd.
There is a depth to the accommodation that is hard to find these days, ranging from elegantly appointed rooms to sea-view suites with bespoke interiors, some of which include private hot tubs. Every detail has been considered.
Leisure options are extensive. Guests may swim in the indoor or outdoor pool, relax in the spa or hot tub, or take advantage of tennis courts, gym facilities and croquet lawns. The hotel’s own motor launch, Alice Rose, is available for private charter, complete with a coxswain and steward to serve a freshly prepared lobster lunch accompanied by champagne, offering a maritime excursion
that complements the luxury stay. And for couples seeking a honeymoon or mini-moon, the hotel’s chauffeur service removes the usual stresses of travel, allowing them to arrive and settle in with ease.
Dining at The Nare is a considered affair. Guests are encouraged to dress for the event, for that’s what it is, making it particularly suited for couples celebrating their first days of married life. For those seeking a less formal option, the Quarterdeck Seafood Restaurant provides relaxed surroundings and an emphasis on local catches, ensuring that all tastes are accommodated.
The Nare revels in Cornwall’s natural beauty but carries forth the refinement of traditional British hospitality. It is a place to linger, to savour, and to return to with fond memories of your first stay.

CRAFTING TREASURES
Tucked away in the seaside village of Porthleven, the Jewellery Workshop operates as a place where craftsmanship is venerated. Here, items of personal significance are given a second life. A worn ring, a faded necklace or a well-loved bracelet may arrive tarnished or broken, but they leave restored, reworked or completely reimagined. Using traditional techniques and modern tools, the team transforms heirloom gold and silver into contemporary designs that retain the emotional value of the original.
The workshop specialises in bespoke commission work, working closely with customers to craft jewellery that is personal and made to last. Whether reworking inherited pieces or creating a meaningful design from scratch, the process is collaborative and relies upon consultation and feedback. Even details like sand from a meaningful beach can be pressed into the metal, creating a permanent link to a specific time or place.
Alongside made-to-order work, the workshop is home to a distinctive range of sand-cast rings, each one shaped by hand, organic in form and individual in character. There's also a regularly changing collection of pre-owned jewellery, carefully

LoosenYOUR BELT!
Why Naughty Nonna’s is Cornwall’s most deliciously defiant caterer.
Let me set the scene. Picture this: I’m in the middle of nowhere, well, Bodmin to be precise, staying at Cabilla for a Cornish Sea Salt retreat. As someone who takes eating very seriously (and I mean very seriously), I was having my usual pre-remote-location panic attack. You know the one: When’s dinner? What’s for dinner? Will there be enough dinner? Then I walked into the dining venue.
Martyn Odell
AKA Lagom Chef
Words by Martyn Odell
The smell hit me first, that glorious, stopyou-in-your-tracks aroma that makes your stomach do a little flip. But it was the sight that properly knocked me sideways: HUGE sharing platters. And when I say huge, I’m talking the kind of spreads that make you question whether you’ve accidentally wandered into an Italian grandmother’s fever dream. This was Naughty Nonna’s in action, and spoiler alert, it was potentially one of the best large-scale catered meals I’ve ever demolished.
Meet the Nonna (she’s lovely, honest). Behind this glorious food assault is Jade, who runs Naughty Nonna’s with her wing-woman Meg as a proudly female-led operation. Their mission? “Unapologetic, belly-filling feasts with bold flavours, huge portions and experiences that make people laugh, loosen their belts and eat with pure joy.”
feasts with bold flavours, huge explains. “The ‘Naughty’ like my food even filthier.” I mean,
The name practically writes its own origin story. “My mates nicknamed me ‘Nonna’ because of the way I feed people – generous, comforting and unapologetically indulgent food,” Jade explains. “The ‘Naughty’ part? Well... I’m just incredibly naughty, filthy and I like my food even filthier.” I mean, what’s not to love?
In a world drowning in deconstructed dishes and pretentious small plates (you know, the ones where you need a magnifying glass to find your meal), Jade has carved out a refreshingly rebellious niche. Don’t get me wrong, some people adore that culinary restraint. But for me? Food should be fun, abundant and leave absolutely zero doubt that everyone’s leaving full and happy. Enter Naughty Nonna’s tablescapes: think mountains of gorgeous food that somehow manage to be both indulgent and beautifully styled. We’re talking herb-stuffed wholebaked sea bass, slow-roasted Persian lamb legs, mounds of seasonal arancini, fish pies that could feed a small village, handmade wild mushroom ravioli, grain salads and pavlovas the size of small children. (Yes, really.)
However, this isn’t just about shoving food on plates and calling it a day. Jade’s background in editorial photography means everything looks almost too good to eat. Almost. Her team specialises in creating immersive tablescapes and food styling for events, shoots, and campaigns; basically, if you can dream it, they can make it both gorgeous and utterly gorgeable. “It’s about bringing community back to food,” Jade says, and you can taste that philosophy in every dish. Taking full advantage of Cornwall’s incredible seasonal produce (because why wouldn’t you with some of Britain’s best ingredients on your doorstep?), Naughty Nonna’s creates experiences that engage all your senses. From the visual feast to the glorious smells to that first outrageously satisfying bite, it’s food as theatre, minus the pretension.
why wouldn’t you with some
all: weddings, events, recipe incredible
creates experiences the pretension.
Based in Newquay, Naughty Nonna’s does it all: weddings, events, recipe development, private catering… you name it. But here’s the catch: when I chatted with Jade, she was already taking bookings for 2027. Yes, you read that right. So here’s my advice: find an excuse, any excuse, to book them. Birthday? Anniversary? Tuesday? All valid reasons. If you can’t manufacture your own event, get yourself to one of their supper clubs (dates are on their website) or catch them at Porthleven Food Festival. And between you and me? There’s talk of us collaborating on a supper club next winter. Watch this space, your belts won’t know what hit them. Check out Naughty Nonna’s on social media for a glimpse of their bold, playful and gloriously unapologetic creations. Trust me, your stomach will thank you.
“Your support is essential to help us look after nature, beauty and history. Make a donation today, and together we can protect precious places for everyone, forever.”
– National Trust
When Storm Goretti swept across Cornwall, it reshaped more than coastlines and gardens. It altered familiar views, felled beloved trees and reminded us how powerful – and unpredictable – nature can be. Across National Trust places from Trelissick and Godolphin to Trengwainton and Levant, ranger and garden teams arrived at work to scenes they had never witnessed before.
On St Michael’s Mount, about 120 trees were lost or damaged. At Trelissick, lead ranger Neil Stevenson estimates that 70 to 80 mature trees were lost in a single night. “I’ve worked with the National Trust for over 30 years,” he says, “and I’m very fond of these trees. But storms like this are part of woodland life. Our job is to understand that process and care for what comes next.”
In the days that followed, teams moved swiftly from emergency response to recovery. Roads were cleared. Paths reopened. Buildings checked. Above all, staff and visitor safety came first. Now comes the longer, quieter work: assessing damaged trees, planning restoration, and finding ways to ensure nothing is wasted. Fallen timber will be reused for conservation projects, restoration work and firewood. Woodchip will return nutrients to the soil.
How the National Trust is caring for Cornwall after Storm Goretti.
Some areas will be left alone to regenerate naturally, creating new habitats for wildlife. Others will be carefully replanted, helping to “future-proof” Cornwall’s landscapes for generations to come.
“It’s hard to comprehend the scale,” says West Cornwall Lead Ranger Simon Hocking. “But we’re focused on looking ahead –rebuilding stronger, and working with nature, not against it.” Behind every reopened gate and restored pathway will be months of skilled, patient work. Small teams are managing vast landscapes shaped by centuries of history and, increasingly, by climate change.
For many, these special places are woven into everyday life: morning walks, family picnics, and quiet moments in nature. And while the impact has been significant, recovery is well underway. From restoring paths to nurturing new growth, teams are working with nature to ensure Cornwall’s landscapes remain special for generations to come. Supporting the National Trust means we can protect Cornwall’s nature, beauty and history, for everyone, for ever.
