ven though the temperatures are inevitably dropping, there’s still plenty going in Cornwall to get you out and about. To help alleviate those autumn blues and get you energised, our cover feature (page 20) takes a look at some of Cornwall’s finest spas, after which we offer up some of our favourite ‘Ways to wellbeing’, on page 26. Next, it’s time to start thinking about Christmas. On page 71 we showcase a few of our favourite ingredients for a proper Cornish Noël, then on page 74 we offer a few ideas for those hoping to get out and about over the festive period. Still have gifts to buy? On page 72 we discover all there is to know about this year’s Fowey Christmas Market, before heading to Cornwall’s capital on page 75 to learn all about the 2019 Truro Winter Gift Fayre. All of this, plus an array of luxury property, interior ideas, food, art, stays and some unbelievable Cornish competitions (page 100) makes our November issue the ultimate guide to Cornwall in the cold. Happy reading!

Holiday home tips In an ongoing series of holiday home tips, George at Cornish Traditional Cottages highlights how to welcome guests to your property. As the owner of a Cornish holiday let, one of your main ob ectives is to ensure your guests have such a great stay that they want to return and recommend it to their friends. The key, George tells us, lies in the welcome. When preparing your holiday home make sure to provide the basics. Stock the cupboards with supplies of tea, coffee, salt, sugar and cooking oil, as well as some washing-up li uid, hand soap, dishwasher tablets, laundry detergent and kitchen roll. This means guests already have the means to get comfortable and have a cup of tea when they arrive as well as providing the incentive to keep the place clean and tidy as well. George continues If the holiday let has a barbe ue, make sure there’s a sack of charcoal for guests’ use. Similarly, if you have a woodburner make sure the log basket is full and provide matches in one of the kitchen drawers. Small touches like this will make all the difference to your guests, allowing them to avoid a rush to the supermarket for the essentials. Achieve a winter glow with M facials, allowing you to look your best for Christmas parties and events. We hear from r oachim Stolte who tells us We do a great treatment called rofhilo which would be ideal for Christmas, plus clients will get a free Fire and Ice facial usually 9 if they mention Cornwall Living. Style in seclusion

This gorgeous, secluded wood cabin on Cornwall’s north coast is the result of an exciting pro ect recently completed by Good Life oinery. uilt in a remote location, Good Life owner Stuart explains that it had its challenges, but that his expert team were able to work around them to create a truly beautiful building that has since become a fully- edged holiday let, available through ni ue Home Stays. As well as working around the location, Stuart and his team also had the brief for the building to be moveable, so it’s built on a steel frame chassis with wheels. It was an interesting build to say the least, says Stuart, but it stands testament to Good Life oinery’s ability to work to extremely high standards with careful craftsmanship and attention to detail to create beautiful buildings that stand out from the crowd. n an age when lives are busy, digital distractions are many and expectations are high in life and work, we all need to find a little ‘me time’. And where better to do so than in one of Cornwall’s stunning spas? We’ve selected just a few that are leading the way in wellbeing in the Westcountry. Perched high on the cliff above Fistral beach in Newquay stands The Headland Hotel & Spa (headlandhotel.co.uk). The impressive, Grade II listed building stands sentinel on the clifftop, giving way to an interior that harks back to its glamorous, Victorian roots. The hotel itself exudes traditional luxury – think dark wood, gleaming brass and sink-into sofas, with a view of the Atlantic rollers that is hard to beat. The Headland’s spa, however, is a juxtaposition of style. As you descend the sweeping staircase down to the spa, leaving old world opulence behind, you are transported to a modern haven of tranquillity and beauty, that boasts a 'Five-Bubble' award for its facilities.

The spa’s central feature is its hydrotherapy pool, which is surrounded by a steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi and a range of showers to invigorate or soothe, depending on your preference. You are free to take your time here, letting the various water therapies wash over you. An ‘inner sanctuary’ houses the massage and rhassoul rooms and, for the ultimate in romantic relaxation, there is also a couples’ massage and Jacuzzi suite. Each highlytrained therapist can tailor treatments to your individual needs and after your treatment you are free to let your cares slip away in the relaxation room, as you sip on a herbal tea and are soothed by gentle music, while wrapped in a soft blanket. The spa also has its own restaurant, where you can enjoy the same award-winning food from the hotel but in a more informal setting – lunching in your robe is the ultimate way to continue your relaxation experience throughout the day. Turn to page 28 to discover more.

As you can imagine, many of Cornwall’s hotels-with-spas are in amazing locations and the Mullion Cove Hotel & Spa (mullion-cove. co.uk) is no different. Boasting a brand-new facility for 2019, the stunning spa has been built with many local materials. Granite, copper, bronze and tin were all utilised in the construction and interior decorations, while local serpentine stones sourced from the Lizard are used in the treatments. In addition to the indoor facilities, which include a hydrotherapy infinity pool, steam room and sauna, you can also step outside and truly connect with the clifftop, either soaking in the outdoor hot tub, swimming in the outdoor pool (open all year and heated from March to October) or simply relaxing on one of the sumptuous loungers, gazing out across the ocean. Treatments here are designed to rejuvenate and relax and you can choose VOYA products containing seaweed from the Atlantic

or select the Made For Life range – organic skincare and massage oils that are made by hand in Cornwall. Ensuring that wellbeing is available to all, therapists here have trained with Made For Life in order to be able to offer treatments to those living with or recovering from cancer. These gentle treatments are created to ground, calm and relax, with a meditative effect, all the while treating the skin with chemical and paraben-free products. Pre and post-natal pregnancy treatments are also available, a wonderful way to celebrate new life and connect with your body.

he apartment is situated above a café that has immense potential thanks to its waterside location. Situated in a spectacular setting in a picturesque Conservation Area directly adjoining the crystal-clear waters of Plymouth Sound, this superb property lies almost on the water’s edge in the heart of Kingsand. Views of Kingsand waterfront can be enjoyed from both oors and the beach is but a few steps away, as is the South West Coast Path. The nearby Rame peninsula is relatively unknown; often described as Cornwall’s ‘forgotten corner,’ it forms part of Cornwall’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Similarly, Mount Edgcumbe Country park, an 800-acre area of coastal woodland and open hillside, lies on the edge of Kingsand village and is possibly one of the most beautiful and varied locations in Cornwall. Commanding outstanding panoramic views over the beautiful and sheltered waters of Cawsand Bay, this property represents a rare and unique opportunity to purchase a freehold café with an apartment offering either occupation by the business owner or use as a holiday let. The apartment has a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams and a balcony; the open-plan living and kitchen room is spacious and leads onto the balcony with outstanding views out to sea.

Kernow Fires

From practical and efficient to high design, Kernow Fires has it all. Kernow Fires’ core business is woodburners, being the Premier Dealer for UK and Europe’s top brands Charnwood and Contura. Well known for high standards and forward thinking, the business was established, by owner Simon Breckon, over 20 years ago. With an eye towards the future the company is alway evolving and searching for the best products possible to offer their clients, whilst customer satisfaction is always kept top of the agenda.

WHEN PURCHASING A FIRE FROM KERNOW FIRES YOU CAN RECEIVE AS MUCH OR AS LITTLE HELP AS YOU REQUIRE. THEY OFFER: Free site visit and estimate A full installation service by their own fully trained builders and HETAS engineers. Gas fire installation by fully trained GasSafe engineers. Expert advice to ensure the stove suits you and your home. Full design service for those wanting a feature as well as efficient heating. Cash and carry on stoves and chimneys if you want to “do it yourself”.

2022 DESIGN READY Along with everything else woodburners are subject to government regulations (The Clean Air Act). These regulations, although they sound scary, are anything but. They are welcomed by Kernow Fires and many in the industry as they encourage the development of the next generation of stoves. These are significantly more efficient and reduce the amount of pollutants in the air. When these fires replace open fires and older stoves people can see an increase inefficiency of over 40% and a 50% reduction in the fuel burnt to generate the same heat. Kernow Fires has supported this scheme since its inception and was one of the first companies to join SIA (Stove Industry Alliance) who are working with the industry to improve standards. Kernow Fires’ range of fires are some of the most efficient in the world with most already meeting or exceeding the 2022 regulations. KERNOW METALS Metal fabrication has long gone hand-in-hand with fireplace design. Our team of fabricators work on an array of fascinating design concepts for private clients and businesses across the country. Railings, gates, chandeliers, staircases, feature walls, ski ramps and even a scaled section of the Star Wars Death Star have all been commissioned by businesses, interior designers and individuals. Bespoke design for practicality or decoration is available to all. Simply get in touch to discuss your design ideas or requirements. BROAD AND TURNER Creators of hand made kitchens and furniture have built a kitchen display area in the cooker area of the Kernow Fires showroom in Wadebridge with six stunning kitchens. Incredible carpentry skills mixed with a unique flair for design, Broad and Turner have helped Kernow Fires to create a spectacular kitchen showroom to house the popular Everhot range of cookers. The showroom is open six days a week. Appointments can be made with Charlie Turner, owner of Broad and Turner, to discuss your kitchen requirements or just pop in for a browse. EVERHOT The best electric range? Certainly one of the most popular range cookers on the market, thanks to its beautiful styling, simple controls and efficiency. Five Everhot cookers are on display in our purpose built Everhot showroom. Designed with space each cooker sits in a bespoke Broad and Turner kitchen for you to imagine it in your own home. They hold regular demonstrations for those wishing to buy as well as cookery events for those wishing to brush up on their entertaining or learn new skills on their Everhot. All the Everhot colours are on display so bring your colour swatches to find your favourite colour!

PREPARE FOR THE PERFECT

s a m t s i r Ch Christie's Furniture has everything you need to make your home as cosy and inviting as possible this winter.

A

s the temperature drops and we retreat into the warm comfort of our homes, it’s time to celebrate the Danish notion of ‘Hygge’ and enjoy the cosiness of warm sofas, soft bedding and comforting wooden tones. Consequently we spend more time indoors, and it allows us to focus on home projects that have been sidelined during the summer months, and the milder climates of September and October. Now, in the lead up to Christmas, making the finishing touches to rooms in time for the festivities becomes the focal point. With many of us anticipating the arrival of family and friends to celebrate and enjoy one another’s company, presenting our homes at their best becomes a priority. If you have an interior design project or are looking for the perfect piece to finish off a room in your home, then make sure you visit Christie's Furniture and the Christie's Bed Shop in Penryn where you can see, feel and touch the beautiful products. Alternatively, here are some suggestions for dressing your homes to impress this Christmas.

Purchasing a new bed has got to be one of the best investments you can make. After all, we spend a vast amount of time cosying down to go to sleep, so having the perfect bed to snuggle into has got to be high on the list of priorities. Out of the many styles available, we have selected the Harrison Beaumaris Bed for comfort, support and great value. This handmade, pocket-sprung bed has amazingly comfortable natural fillings and is available in different tensions to suit your preference. Next on the list is the sofa – you can see a bit of a theme here – but relaxing is what Christmas is all about! The Rivo sofa is the ultimate gift for you and the family this year – so stylish it could have been plucked from the pages of Vogue. Featuring deep blue tones, a velvety fabric and sophisticated silver panelling, the finishing touch has got to be the contemporary silver feet that tie the whole façade of luxury and comfort together. That, along with the dual-effect matching pillows, will capture the attention of friends and family and invite lazy afternoons with a good book and evenings in front of the fire.

Capturing the humour of famous comic actor, filmmaker and composer Charlie Chaplin – this is a truly magical piece of modern wall art that is sure to catch the eye of passers-by thanks to the dynamic quality of the piece, which allows the viewer to perceive three pieces of art in one. B

ased in Penryn, Sweet Dreamzzz has been providing beds and mattresses to discerning customers across Cornwall for more than a decade, so they’re well-versed when it comes to advising what to look for. Having recently attended the National Bed Federation Show, the team are delighted to share the very latest innovation in the world of beds. Living in Cornwall we are surrounded by the beautiful ocean, and Sweet Dreamzzz are very aware of the impact plastic has on our seas and shores, that is, that eight million tons of plastic find their way into our oceans every year; that one million sea birds die each year because of ocean litter; and that sea pollution kills more than 100,000 mammals annually. This is why Sweet Dreamzzz is proud to be the first in Cornwall to stock the Seagreen mattress range from Seaqual. Working with fishermen, Sea ual recycles the plastics they catch in their nets, using them to create the luxury fabrics with which they make the supremely comfortable Seagreen mattresses. What this means is that you can now enjoy a good night’s sleep with a clear conscience – knowing you’re helping reduce the growing issue of plastic pollution. Cornwall's residents have been particularly pro-active in fighting the growing plastic problem, and the same can be said for the hospitality industry, with many homeowners now replacing their mattresses with the

Seagreen range. And it’s no wonder, especially since more and more holidaymakers here in the Duchy want to do their bit to help save the environment. Seaqual’s mattresses are proving to be a top seller, both with customers looking to help the environment, alongside Sweet Dreamzzz's Ultimate range of chemical free mattresses – helping allergy sufferers who are hoping to achieve the perfect night’s sleep. Impressively, even at the end of their lives, these mattresses are fully recyclable, meaning when you do come to replace yours, you can rest assured it won’t end up as additional landfill! One customer has said of the Seagreen range: “I was very impressed with the selection of recyclable products, as this is very important to me. Five stars.” As well as doing their bit to combat the growing issue of plastic pollution, the Sweet Dreamzzz team pride themselves on their personal service, and are always on hand to help advise on the best mattress and bed to suit you and your home. So why not get in touch and see how they can help you sleep a little easier?

Air source and solar solutions tailored to your home

C

ornwall Living recently sat down with local renewable heating experts, GreenGenUK to discuss their renewable heating solutions. Located in Helston, GreenGen specialise in the installation of renewables. We asked GreenGen their thoughts on Cornwall’s heating dilemma. “We have seen a real shift towards air source heating and interest is booming as more homeowners grow frustrated with their oil or gas bills. On average, we’re installing three to five air source heat pumps per week, moving people away from oil and towards more friendlier fuels,” explained Neil Rollinson, Surveyor for GreenGen. He details the shift he has seen since working in the industry. “Homeowners are becoming more aware of their increasing heating bills. Also, who hasn’t seen everything on the news about climate change and carbon footprint? enewable heating offers numerous benefits to homeowners in Cornwall.” Homeowners living off of the gas grid pay more for troublesome fuels. Air source heating provides lower bills and a lucrative incentive. Neil told us: “Air source heating can be 30% cheaper to run than oil or LPG, with the added benefit of zero deliveries and never running out of fuel! Subsidy on renewable heating is now better than ever.

On average, the RHI (Renewable Heating Incentive) pays between £8,000-£10,000 over seven years to anyone installing air source heating.” With the environmental and financial benefits of renewable heating very clear, it’s no wonder air source heat pumps are growing in popularity. Are you considering air source as a means of heating your home? Then speak to the experts at GreenGenUK and utilise their friendly and informative approach to answer all of your questions. Offering free surveys and proposals, GreenGen are a first stop for anyone considering air source.

andmade using traditional metal casting techniques, beds from The Cornish Bed Company are available in a wide range of sizes, colours and finishes and make a statement in any bedroom. From French chic to a grand fourposter or day-bed, there will be a Cornish bed to complement any setting. Getting the right-sized bed is important to achieve the desired look for your bedroom. Aissa Gonzalez, interior design specialist at The Cornish Bed Company, says: “If a bed is the right size for its space, and to scale, the area will feel spacious and there will be room for other essential bedroom furniture. “The result will be a neat and tidy room, with enough capacity for clothes, spare bedding, toiletries, and little clutter.” Whatever space you need to fill, The Cornish ed Company offers a bespoke manufacturing service. Even unusual bed sizes are possible with mattresses to fit, thanks to its sister company, Naturalmat, based in Topsham, near Exeter. Cornish beds are built to last. They are instantly recognisable by the company’s signature knuckle oint and each bed is given a uni ue hallmark and certificate of

authenticity, making it a purchase today that will become an antique of the future. We here at Cornwall Living love the look of The Abingdon. A classic design embellished with white crackle glazed ceramics, brass bed rails and an industrial black finish, it’s a timeless design that will look good in any setting. Aissa Gonzalez says: “Dress the Abingdon in crisp white linen and accessorise with a splash of colour that can easily be replicated in other designer touches around the bedroom.”

T

he 2019 Cornwall Hi-Fi Show returned to the Royal Cornwall Showground on 11th and 12th October and did not disappoint, with a feast of industry leading brands and the latest home audio products on demonstration. Organised and managed by HBH Woolacotts, the Hi-Fi Show is fast becoming a fixture for ma or A brands and the number one place in Devon and Cornwall to see and hear the latest home audio products, and this year’s saw three ma or launches. ON -CAST from Cyrus made its debut in October and is the world’s first audiophile amplifier with full voice compatibility. Arcam premiered their new A 10 remium A eceiver which is due to be released early November as well as a working prototype of the SOLO-UNO mini system, which is due for release early 2020. Finally, KEF, who won ‘Best Stand of the Show’, had their brand new Q250-C Centre Channel speaker set up as part of an explosive rand olby Atmos Home Cinema demonstration with Yamaha electronics and a anasonic OL T again, the first time this product had ever been shown to the public in the UK. Over 700 people attended the show over the course of two days and helped create a

fantastic atmosphere. The inclusion of ose, Sonos and three ma or television brands (Panasonic, Sony and LG) meant that there really was something for everyone, covering every aspect of home audio and home cinema. Geoff Pratt, Organiser and Store Manager at HBH Woolacotts Wadebridge says: “I’m absolutely delighted with the event and how it turned out. The changes we’ve made have really taken the show to the next level and the brands really have been fantastic in their support for the show and helping create world-class stands and demonstrations.” HBH Woolacotts is best known as a general electrical retailer, with a focus on home appliances, and T A . However, all stores have a selection of home audio products and Wadebridge, Plymouth, odmin and St Austell in particular, have a much larger range of premium audio, home cinema and 2-Channel Hi-Fi. Vincent Basham - Seascape Art

Vincent Basham is a seascape artist originally from Maldon in Essex. He studied at Thurstable School in Tiptree where he developed a growing love for painting and became totally self-taught through trial and error. What merely began as a hobby in his teenage years has now become a new, full time chapter in his life Vincent lived in Cornwall in his early twenties and moved back in 2016 with his partner Jane and their dog Stella. Many of Vincent’s paintings are scenes from around the local area, with much of his work inspired by the simple things in life, such as walks along the beach, the colour of the Cornish sky or simply watching the crashing waves. He has the unique ability to take these images and transfer them to canvas from memory with a little photographic help. The medium Vincent mainly uses is oil, enabling him to produce incredible paintings in fine detail and extraordinarily high quality.

He has been exhibiting some of his work at the Padstow Institute in Cornwall on numerous occasions this summer and last, and many of the visitors have come back to purchase further pieces. Vincent will happily take on commissioned pieces of work, so why not pop into the gallery and have a chat next time you visit Wadebridge?

ACHIEVE THE

PERFECT SMILE Wadebridge Dental Care is a practice that's proud to do things differently.

A

chieving the perfect smile has never been easier thanks to Wadebridge Dental, the family friendly Cornish practice currently leading the way in private dentistry and facial aesthetics. Following their win of 'Best Practice' in 2018, the team have just earned a place as finalists in no less than five categories at this year’s Private Dentistry Awards. In the running for ‘Practice of the Year’, ‘Best Patient Care’, ‘Best Team’, ‘Most Improved Practice’, and ‘Most Invaluable Team Member’, it quickly becomes clear that this is not your average dentist. With that in mind, let’s take a look at what Wadebridge Dental can do for you. The team of dentists is 10-strong, covering all aspects of dentistry. This includes general family dentistry – with all patients under 18 treated for free when a parent is registered – as well as advanced dentistry, facial aesthetics, teeth straightening, smile makeovers, advanced restorative work, oral surgery, root canal treatments and sedation. It's also the only dental practice in the south west to boast not just one, but two iTero digital scanners, capable of detecting decay. When it comes to teeth straightening, the practice was recently awarded ‘Gold Invisalign Providers’ status. Comfortable, predictable and efficient, Invisalign is the world’s most advanced, clear aligner. As the name suggests,

it's also nearly invisible, making it a superb alternative to traditional braces. Headed up by Melissa and Andrew Taylor – who was recently awarded a ‘Certificate of Merit for Services to the Profession’ by the British Dental Association – this Wadebridge practice is always working towards the improvement and expansion of its treatment offering. Proud to do things differently, Melissa, Andrew and the team provide a warm and friendly environment in the heart of Wadebridge – just a short stroll from the beautiful river Camel and a far cry from your average dental waiting room. The waiting room feels more akin to that of a boutique spa, and with a team who constantly have their fingers on the pulse, implementing up-to-theminute technologies and covering all facets of dentistry, you can be sure that your experience at Wadebridge Dental is the best it could be. In short, a trip to Wadebridge Dental is something that everybody can smile about.

Quay, Leisure Centre, Town Hall and Webb Street, as well as the great selection of local high-end boutiques. Of course all this Christmas shopping soon works up an appetite. Thankfully, ‘A Bite of Cornwall’ Christmas Food & Drink Market will be returning to Albert Quay, showcasing some of the region’s finest food and drink to take home and stock up on in time for Christmas. Hog roasts, mulled wine and cider will also be served throughout the day, and you’ll find plenty of bars and cafés serving even more culinary delights throughout the town. This year, the Leisure Centre Venue will be under the overall Fowey market management and will see an upgrade to include its own array of gifts, crafts, jewellers, skincare, food and drink to enjoy, with the bonus of some street food and a café. This venue will be open on Saturday and Sunday only. The event, this year, kicks off on the Friday with the Parade of Light from 6.30pm. Due to arrive by tug boat at Berrills Yard – the lifeboat pontoon – Santa himself is set to lead the parade through the streets of Fowey, so be sure to bring your lanterns, torches, twinkly lights or ashing headbands and take part. This will be shortly followed by the Fowey Christmas Lights Switch On at 7pm and then the Children's Disco in the town hall from 7pm.

Many of Fowey’s shops, cafés and pubs are dog friendly, and dogs are welcome in the marquees, but do be mindful that it will be crowded. Cashpoints are available outside Barclays bank close to the church. If you’re driving, follow the directions to Main Car Park. Parking will also be available at the leisure centre. A shuttle bus will be travelling between the town, Leisure Centre Venue and all car parks every 15 minutes, however, the town is within walking distance if you prefer to go on foot. Free parking will be available on Saturday 7th December in the main Fowey car park and Caffa Mill car park, and at Readymoney car park on both Saturday and Sunday, with the town bus running between the main car park and the church throughout the weekend. We’ll look forward to seeing you there!

s s e l e m i T ELEGANCE Patek Philippe’s Twenty~4® Automatic is the perfect accompaniment to daily life for discerning style-conscious women.

T

wenty years after the debut of the ‘Twenty~4®’ watch that became a paragon of timeless feminine elegance, the Genevan manufacturer has fulfilled a wish expressed by many discerning and stylish women with the Patek Philippe Ladies’ Twenty~4® Automatic, a feminine watch with a self-winding mechanical movement. In 1999, Patek Philippe responded to the expectations of a young, dynamic generation with the very feminine Twenty~4®, to resounding success. Its unusual name re ects the fact that it is a perfect companion for any time of day or night, proposed in diamond-set rose gold or stainless steel versions, and endowed with a quartz movement. With the launch of the Twenty~4® Automatic, a series of self-winding mechanical ladies’ watches featuring a round case and the calibre 3234 S C selfwinding movement now complete the existing range. Patek Philippe is reinforcing its position in the growing segment of mechanical ladies’ watches with the launch of the Twenty~4® Automatic, a timepiece for modern, self-confident women who are decision makers and who pursue active lifestyles. With its sleek elegance, it is a watch for any time of day, complementing every facet of daily life. It perfectly matches

the entire spectrum of a lady’s wardrobe, from outdoor outfits to evening gowns. The watch focuses on the woman who consummately handles latest-generation technology but prefers a timeless, mechanical timepiece on her wrist, one that represents a grand tradition of quality and the lasting value of an artistically crafted masterpiece. The Twenty~4® Automatic adopts the aesthetic appeal of the rectangular Twenty~4®, with an exclusive bracelet featuring gently cambered central links framed by delicate two-tier outside links. The self-winding version stands out with a completely new round case – featuring prominent yet subtle contours. The dials are readily legible too, with applied Arabic numerals in gold as well as baton hands with rounded ends and luminous coatings. With its artisan-crafted self-winding mechanical movement and timeless design, in short, the Twenty~4® Automatic has everything it takes to keep up with the busy lifestyles of style-conscious, self-confident women.

F

eaturing a wide selection of festive entertainment and activities, from a living snow globe and lantern parades to a Christmas market and live music, there are plenty of fun things to do in Penzance in the run up to Christmas. For the past few festive seasons the town has focussed more and more on capturing the fun of Christmas and with a town centre that boasts an enviable amount of independent shops, cafés and restaurants, it’s easy to see why Penzance is such a great place to find presents and soak up the festive atmosphere. So, what’s happening this year?

Throughout November, in the build-up to the Humphry Davy Lantern Parade on 14th December, PZ Exchange will be hosting a series of artist-led workshops. Taking place on Saturday 4th, 11th, 18th and 24th, from 1pm to 4pm, everybody is welcome to take part and make their own willow lantern. Entry is free and all materials are provided, but please be sure to book your place at Eventbrite! On Saturday 30th November, from 2pm to pm, you’ll find street entertainers alongside a living snow globe, plus a huge Christmas market, choirs and bands. Penzance Exchange will also host its Makers Market and then at 5.30pm,

it’s time for the Christmas Lights Switch On – make sure you arrive early enough to see everything and enjoy the show! On Saturday 14th December from 4.30pm, it’s time for the Humphry Davy Lantern Parade, celebrating the world-famous Cornish scientist and inventor of the miner’s safety ‘Davy’ lamp. Throughout the day you can enjoy the Christmas market, tucking into festive treats and perusing artisan crafts. The markets are open from 2pm until 6pm, and families can meet Father Christmas in his Grotto. Expect plenty of live music and entertainment throughout the town, plus a large Christmas market with up to 45 stalls along Market Jew Street with Christmas treats, artisan crafts and festoon lighting creating a wonderful atmosphere. Did you know that this year marks the 150th anniversary of the Periodic Table? To celebrate this and Penzance’s famous patron, Humphry Davy, on 14th December there will also be mad science events taking place across the town, with experiments and games from the wonderful world of science – perfect for getting heads old and new working. Later on, head along the coast and catch the lights being turned on at Mousehole to complete the day! Next up, on Saturday 21st December, is Montol Festival. Celebrating the mid-winter solstice, if you’ve never experienced the spectacle that is Montol, it’s definitely one to etch into your diary. Masked revellers line the streets to enjoy and take part in processions of dance, music and fire.

Parades are held throughout the town from 4pm until late, accompanied by a Christmas market, revelry and mayhem! Finally, for those yet to tick off their Christmas lists and hoping to squeeze in some last-minute shopping before the big day, on Sunday 22nd December you can make the most of Penzance’s diverse range of independent shops, cafés and bars, soaking up the entertainment across the town and easing into the festive mood. Throughout the whole of December families can follow the Christmas Window Trail. With a theme this year of ‘Winter Wonderland’, we’re expecting to see some exceptional window displays this year from Penzance’s independent shops and establishments! You can vote for your favourite window in the shop and school categories and be in with a chance to win £100! The winning school gets a £250 prize and gets to have the winner’s shield for a year – a real bonus for any local school. If you’ve yet to fill your festive diary, Penzance has a superb line-up of events that are sure to get you and yours into the Cornish Christmas spirit, so be sure to pencil in a visit.

ere at Cornwall Living we’re what you might call fanatical about food, and one of our favourite past times has to be discovering the incredible array of restaurants that make our county the prominent foodie destination it has, without question, become. A prime example has to be Edie’s Kitchen – run by acclaimed chef Nigel Brown and his wife Kelly. With family values, good food and impeccable service at its heart, having met up with them this time last year to discover the delectable treats their menu has to offer, we were in no way surprised to learn that this year, they’ve been nominated as finalists in the Cornwall Tourism Awards! BELOW Luxury Christmas pudding, a classic Baker Tom recipe

ou know Christmas has arrived at Baker Tom’s bakery when you can smell the sweet scent of buttery pastry, of spicy cinnamon and cloves, intertwined with the unmistakable aroma of freshly baked bread. This year Tom has embraced the simple avours we love about Christmas in a selection of his classic speciality loaves. Baker Tom’s is excited to introduce its Christmas Sourdough which has been in uenced by the savoury avours of traditional stu ng - sage, onion and chestnuts, carefully folded into the popular sourdough mix. Also new this year, a delicious Focaccia with creamy Cornish camembert and tangy cranberries, a new twist on the classic that’s ideal for tearing and sharing at Christmas parties. For those with a sweeter tooth, Baker Tom’s deliciously uffy, marbled brioche with rich cocoa and creamy yogurt will be the perfect loaf for Christmas Day breakfast – a hit with adults and children alike. This year, Baker Tom’s Christmas favourites – mince pies topped with a Christmas shortbread star and luxury Christmas puddings oozing with brandy-soaked currants – are steamed and boxed for gifting. Not forgetting Tom’s twist on a classic stollen:

Christmas at Baker Tom’s brightens the drizzle of winter, bringing the excitement of new flavours mixed with tradition.

a cinnamon spiced sourdough with plump juicy fruits and a generous marzipan centre, finished with a dusting of sugar. The Christmas range will be available from early November, as Tom says: “For us at Baker Tom’s the Christmas season starts early, why wait for the big day... embrace the season and enjoy the many indulgences and rituals that Christmas has to offer as soon as possible.” Baker Tom’s Christmas range is available from Baker Tom shops in Falmouth, Penzance, St Austell, Wadebridge and at the Bakery in Pool, as well as independent retailers across Cornwall and Devon. And if you’re looking for a relaxed Christmas brunch or lunch, why not pop into the Baker Tom bakery café in Pool, serving all day brunch, barista coffees and Christmas lunch specials throughout the whole of the festive season.

A MATCH

made in heaven

We discover what makes restaurant Rastella the hottest culinary ticket in Falmouth.

 ABOVE Rastella is very much a chic, standalone restaurant

TOP What grows together, goes together

C

ornish food and drink is some of the best in the country. “We’d be crazy not to take advantage of that,” explains Merchant Manor Proprietor, Nick Rudlin, “which is why we produce nature inspired food that ticks all the boxes.” Rastella is the highest rated dining experience in Falmouth. From locally-foraged greens, butchers and garden markets, to the love Chef Patron Hylton Espey puts into every dish, there is one mantra in the Rastella kitchen: “What grows together, goes together.” This makes every breakfast, lunch and dinner here a journey around Cornwall. We’d heard many good things about Rastella, the restaurant at Merchants Manor in Falmouth, not least of which is it has recently been awarded the highly coveted third AA Rosette – one of only four restaurants in Cornwall to boast this accolade. Chef Patron, Hylton Espey was born and raised in South Africa and it was Merchants Manor’s devotion to using the finest, fresh, local ingredients as well as a love of the sea that drew him to Falmouth and Rastella, and it’s fair to say that it’s proven to be a match made in heaven. On arrival you can’t fail to be bowled over by the grandeur of the building – the ivy-clad doorway heralds an opulent interior where

sparkling chandeliers light up the traditional entrance hall. When it comes to style and ambiance – the bar and dining room rival the very finest of London restaurants. The tables are adorned with crisp linen and the cutlery shimmers in the evening light as you sit down to your table. Dishes are served with the utmost finesse with perfectly balanced avours that will leave you utterly satisfied and you would be forgiven for thinking that they’re works of art rather than food! Although part of the hotel, Rastella feels very much like a standalone restaurant, and has a chic and stylish identity of its own. The service is unobtrusive, yet impeccable and the wine choice is a triumph. The dining experience is perfect for any special occasion or celebratory dinner and makes for an incredibly relaxing evening.

Grilled Loin of Hake

The Marazion Hotel and Cutty Sark Restaurant

Harbour Fish and Grill

Nothing says autumnal comfort food quite like slow roasted, homemade, smoky barbeque ribs – a mouthwatering favourite that promises to help you harness the seasonal change. Head Chef, Keith Palmer showcases the locally sourced, organic Primrose Herd, rare-breed ribs – roasted low and slow, basted with a homemade smoky barbeque sauce and then chargrilled. Served with homemade red coleslaw, gluten free, rustic skin-on chips, chargrilled corn on the cob and gluten free homemade onion rings.

Locally caught and supremely meaty, hake is a superb alternative to cod. Brushed simply with butter, it’s also perfect for grilling! Here, the Harbour Fish and Grill team serve it with a mussel, caviar and potato veloute, leek mash and samphire, topping it with a refreshing crab and fennel slaw. Aside from salt and pepper, we’re told that the only seasoning needed comes from rosemary and lemon; aside from that, each element of this seriously tempting plateful works to complement the next.

The wider menu is packed full of gluten free, vegetarian, vegan and dairy-free options, delighting gastronomes everywhere.

A great all-year round dish, it’s fair to say this is a strong contender for Cornwall’s greatest grill!

And the winner is… Last month, the theme for Cornwall Living’s ultimate dish was ‘autumn’. The dishes in the running were: Halibut on Samphire at Marazion Hotel and Cutty Sark Restaurant; the seriously tempting Seafood Chowder at Rebellion Roasthouse & Moonshine Bar; Pollock with crab sauce, potatoes and chard from Dan’s Cornish Kitchen; and Housel Bay Hotel’s Wild Mushroom Crumpet. Voted for by you, this really was a close contest – so close, in fact, that there were only three votes separating first and second place!

Onto the results and we’re delighted to announce that the winner of Cornwall Living’s first ltimate ish award is… Housel Bay Hotel! Of his Wild Mushroom Crumpet, Head Chef oseph Fallowfield told us Their gentle sweetness works perfectly with a fresh and uffy crumpet. Add a knob of Cornish butter, freshly chopped parsley and a touch of garlic and you’re in for a treat.” Our readers certainly thought so! To those who voted, as promised, we will be contacting one lucky reader with the fantastic prize of a meal for two at each of the four aforementioned restaurants. So, if you were one of those who voted for autumn’s ultimate dish, be sure to check your emails, because it could well be you!

omeAway's worldwide holiday rental marketplace can maximise the potential income of your second home, but don't just take our word for it. We caught up with existing property partner, Sally Smither Harvey, to ask her a few questions about her own HomeAway experience. Where are your properties located? I have two traditional cottages in Cornwall, in a little fishing village called Charlestown. How long have you had your properties? I have owned both properties since 2010, so a little less than nine years, and both were bought as investments. Renting through HomeAway, and having guests come to stay in our properties, has given us some extra income to put towards the mortgage and the bills. Where do your guests come from? My guests come from all over the UK, but I have recently seen an in ux of German, Dutch and Swiss guests. I think the rise in interest from European guests is mainly

due to the 'Poldark effect' as well as other programmes filmed around the Cornish coast. I have also had guests from as far afield as the Middle ast and North America. What do you like about HomeAway? HomeAway gives me at least 96% of my bookings so being with them has been very, very beneficial. I m a remier artner, which means I have someone I can call whenever I need to, making the whole process very easy. If I do have a problem there's always a friendly person on the end of the phone, which is why it's been a great experience for me.

Customs House Loft, Porthleven Nestled by the harbour in Porthleven and housed in a Grade II listed building that dates back to the 1840s, the Customs House Loft sleeps four in bright and spacious luxury. The apartment has been carefully decorated with marine-inspired tones, complementing its coastal locale, and you’ll quickly realise that for hosts John and Louise, it’s all about the detail. Each of the two bedrooms is an oasis of calm, with White Company towels and bedding and an Atlantic blanket carefully folded on each bed. For those staying with their furry friend, dogs are given their very own basket of blankets to help them feel at home, while human guests are greeted with a freshly baked cream tea, courtesy of owner and charming host, Louise. Into the vast living and dining area and you’ll quickly notice two comfortable chairs, set before a beautiful triptych of windows that frame the gorgeous harbour views. There are even binoculars provided, equally ideal for dolphin spotting and storm watching! The village itself is a fantastic base from which to explore, boasting an excellent selection of restaurants and cafés. For beach days, Porthleven’s sandy beach lies just moments from your door, perfect for buckets and spades, and dog friendly on its eastern side all year round.

Meet the sanctuary residents

INSET Every visit and donation contributes to the seals' much needed care

T

he Cornish Seal Sanctuary is a charity that rescues and rehabilitates grey seal pups from around the Cornish coastline. Rehabilitating more than 70 pups every season, all with varying needs, ranging from malnourishment to being separated from their mum. The sanctuary also provides a permanent home to animals requiring special care from their team of marine wildlife experts. Visiting the sanctuary, you can experience wonderful marine animals up close and learn about their individual stories, and with autumn now turning to winter, you may even encounter the occasional seal pup on your local Cornish beach. The marine experts at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary offer some helpful tips on what to do, should you find one. Firstly, keep your distance. If the pup has a uffy white coat, it still needs its mother and chances are, mum is watching from the water. She will only return to feed her pup when she feels it’s safe to do so. Secondly, do not touch the pup or try to put it back into the water – this is a wild animal with sharp teeth after all and a mother may reject her

Rescuing and providing expert care for sick, injured or distressed seals and other marine animals. pup if she can smell humans. However, the sanctuary experts do encourage you to observe these beautiful creatures and to take note to see if the pup is alone, emaciated, injured or looking unwell. Noisy breathing, coughing or a runny nose are all indicators of illness. The Cornish Seal Sanctuary forms part of the SEA LIFE Trust charity and their vital work would not be possible without the support of the public. Rehabilitation will cost, on average, around £2,000, without even taking into consideration any special care it may need. Take Ted, for instance, who came to the sanctuary with a broken jaw requiring surgery, or Harry, who was so entangled in netting that his wounds were deemed life threatening. The Cornish Seal Sanctuary who offer such amazing rehabilitation and medical care are extremely grateful for each visiting guest and every donation received, allowing them to provide much-needed care for the resident animals.

A stitch IN TIME

With a deep connection to Falmouth, sisters Sandra Wakefield and Jane Abraham realised a long-shared ambition this year, opening their very own knitting and sewing shop – Stitches and Cream.  MAIN All your knitting and sewing needs covered

J

ane and Sandra always wanted to open their own sewing and knitting shop, Sandra tells us, “mainly because it’s both of our hobbies.” Sandra only recently moved back to Cornwall after years of working in London for a pharmaceutical company, and whilst she was happily planning on not working, the draw of Falmouth’s boutique shopping scene proved far too strong. “I was talking to Jane about our old ambition to open a shop here and she said ‘oh that’s really interesting, because I’ve bought a domain!’. We looked at each other and thought ‘we could do this.’” From that moment the idea spiralled and when a shop became available, Sandra continues, “we were headlong into it.” “Growing up we spent most of our summers in Falmouth. Our grandparents used to run Star and Garter pub for many years and our grandad was Tug Master of

Falmouth." Jane also went to school there: "So for us, Falmouth was always home.” Driven by a passion for their shared hobby, they each felt that there was a need in the town for what they had to offer. Indeed, proving that hunch to be true, Jane tells us: “When we opened there was actually a queue!” “We’ve become something of a destination shop,” Sandra elaborates. “For instance, last week there was a lady who’d travelled from Wales, having insisted her husband brought her down just to come to the shop! There have been a number of customers like that,” she laughs, “many with very quiet husbands, sitting down on the sofa and patiently waiting.” So, for those of you who love knitting and sewing, why should you visit Stitches and Cream when you could easily source yarns and fabrics online? For starters, Sandra and Jane, wherever possible, source products from local, UK-based indie suppliers. “We don’t go for mass market or cheaper fabrics; we go for good, high-quality products. People spend a lot of time and effort making their clothes and we want them to have a good quality product at the end of it.” With regards to the yarns they stock, Sandra and Jane only source the most beautiful natural yarns from British sheep. And that's what sets the shop apart from any internet store – the experience. As Sandra puts it: “It’s about coming in and seeing and feeling what the fabrics and yarns are like.” ut that’s not all. While it is, first and foremost, a shop, the retail side only accounts for half of the business; between them, Sandra and Jane run regular sewing and knitting workshops, covering a range of

skills, from knitting and crochet, to modern embroidery and invisible mending. “We do these partly to teach new skills,” explains Jane, but it goes further than that. “We’re very passionate about mental health and helping those who feel really isolated, so we wanted to create a space where people felt they could just come in, have a chat and sit and do their projects, with no pressure to buy. We run family workshops as well, which are a great opportunity to just set life aside and focus on something that’s really creative.” Impressively, their work with the community doesn’t stop there. In fact, they are currently working in collaboration with the Fashion and Textile Department at Falmouth University, helping students in the development of fabrics and products and testing them in a commercial environment. Frankly, we don’t know how they find the time, especially considering that Jane still works as a Civil Servant in London, as well as being a Non-Executive Director for the Cornwall Partnership (NHS) Foundation Trust! With winter nearly upon us and Christmas looming, our conversation inevitably turns to the festive season and what Stitches and Cream have planned for the holidays ahead. “We have a range of workshops that are purely Christmas related,” Sandra tells us. These range from sewing your own Christmas decorations and advent calendars, to customising Christmas jumpers, sewing Christmas stockings, even making your own pyjamas! The pair will also be busy preparing a range of knitting and sewing packs and kits, as well as a broad selection of small pieces, gifts and quirky bits, many of which will only be available in store. With gift vouchers available too, it’s fair to say that if there’s a sewing lover yet to be ticked off of your Christmas list, then a visit to Stitches and Cream on Falmouth's Old High Street is an absolute must.

O

ccupying a beautiful spot on Porthleven’s historic harbourside and showcasing a diverse collection of original work by established artists, the Customs House Gallery is the perfect place to visit if you’re still struggling to find gifts for those hard-to-buy-for loved ones. Indeed, inside you’ll find an array of uni ue, original gifts, starting from under £20 and suiting all tastes and budgets. Since its launch in 1995, this Porthleven gallery has become renowned for its exhibitions of work from some of the finest local artists. It was ac uired in 2012 by the current owners, John and Louise Winterton, who have only continued to develop this sterling reputation and today, more than 50 artists are represented here, with works ranging from original paintings, sculpture, ceramics and glasswork, to metalwork, woodwork, ewellery and textiles. Indeed, it’s not just a superb range of gift ideas you’ll find with a visit to the Customs House this winter. As the temperatures drop and we begin spending more time indoors, many of us start noticing ‘bare’ patches on our walls, patches that would be perfect for accommodating our favourite pieces of art. For many, however, cost can be an issue,

which is why the Customs House is proud to be a part of the Own Art Scheme, which makes original art affordable by spreading the cost over ten months with no interest to pay. And, as if all that wasn’t enough, ohn and Louise also offer a bespoke framing service, allowing you to display your beautiful new piece in all its glory. The gallery is open daily from 10. 0am to 5pm until Christmas, then six days a week until aster, closing on Mondays. Outside of these hours, you’ll be pleased to know that John and Louise have recently revamped their website, allowing you to order that piece of art you’ve been coveting at the click of a button! To find out more and to see everything it has to offer this festive period, take a trip to the uintessentially Cornish village of Porthleven and see for yourself the incredible array of work on display at the Customs House Gallery.

ind Atishoo Gallery in the historic village of Charlestown, hidden away in a pretty courtyard opposite the old Charlestown Chapel. It’s well worth the short walk up the hill from the harbour to see the lovely and vibrant collection of original art, ceramics, glassware, jewellery and prints that are packed into this little gallery and giftshop. The gallery is run by artist couple, Liz Hackney and Paul Clark, who are passionate about supporting UK based artists, craftspeople and manufacturers. “There are so many incredibly talented artists and designers,” explains Liz, “many of whom are producing their work onto stationery and homewares, that we now have a fantastic collection of aprons, tea towels and melamine tableware, all made here in the UK.” ou’ll also find a beautiful selection of lampwork glass jewellery, made by award winning lampwork artist, Julie Fountain. Each bead is handmade in the ame, onto which tiny pieces of Murano glass are melted, before the addition of pure silver droplets to give the pieces an extra sparkle. Other artists at the gallery include Kit Johns. Based on the Lizard peninsula, Kit paints everything from large canvasses of the wild Atlantic, to tiny original paintings on offcuts of timber which sell for less than £10 each – ideal for starting your art collection on a budget! One addition to the gallery this year that has proven particularly popular is Louise Thorn’s wonderful range of ceramic boats. Between working at the Eden Project, Louise uses her spare time to make her quirky boats and seabirds, and if you look closely, you’ll see a little bird dropping from the cheeky seagull! Atishoo Gallery will be open six days a week in the run up to Charlestown’s special Christmas Market weekends, at the end of November and the first weekend of ecember, when the Christmas lights will also be switched on. You’ll also find lots of specialist market stalls selling their wares. These, in addition to Atishoo Gallery, make a trip to Charlestown just the ticket for anyone who is yet to start their Christmas shop.

YOUR LOOK Experts in helping individuals love the way they look, Aesthetic Solutions in Truro continues to grow its portfolio of treatments.

A

esthetic Solutions is a doctor-led aesthetic clinic in Truro that’s been around for more than 20 years. During that time Kerry and Simon, who own and run the clinic, have been helping thousands of people love how they look in the mirror. They firmly believe that anyone who feels the need to look to aesthetics deserves to be treated in a safe and effective environment. This is what Aesthetic Solutions does best, and what it’s been doing ever since its inception. Along with their team, Kerry and Simon are able to put together treatment plans to address a whole raft of skin concerns and are always adding to their treatment portfolio. Just recently, they introduced CoolSculpting® – the only FDA approved fat freezing treatment in the world. In fact, Aesthetic Solutions is the only clinic in Cornwall to offer CoolSculptiung® machines, offering clients a treatment that works with proven, permanent results. With zero downtime and without the need for any surgery, the CoolSculpting® process freezes and kills fat cells permanently, without harming neighbouring skin, nerves, vessels or muscles. The procedure generally takes 35 minutes per cycle and results in an average 27% reduction in fat in the treated

area. It is not, however, a solution to obesity;   ABOVE Aesthetic Solutions good candidates, according to the team, are there to help usually have noticeable bulges in certain you love the way areas that they’d like to get rid of, and are you look simply unable to do so through exercise and diet alone. CoolSculpting is the first step in Aesthetic Solutions’ campaign to set up an Obesity Clinic in Truro, through which the team aim to offer a number of options to help patients lose and maintain their desired weight. It will also enable them to contour their new body; the team will work with Nutritionists and Personal Trainers, giving patients access to the right people to ensure their weight-loss journey is a success. If you’ve decided it’s time to make a change to improve your fitness and thereby make the most of Cornwall’s seaside lifestyle – Simon and Kerry, along with their friendly team of experts, may well have the solution for you.

J

oin Cornwall Hospice Care and their title sponsor, Ann’s Cottage Surf Shops, for some festive fun. What better way to get ready for Christmas than to dress up as Santa, pound the streets of your local town, all whilst helping to raise funds for the care of those who are terminally ill in Cornwall. Events this year take place in Truro, Falmouth, Helston, Padstow, a cycle in Wadebridge, and a brand-new event at the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Last year the Santa campaign raised in excess of £32,000, helping to fund 1,250 hours of nursing care. Oli Hoare is the Head of Fundraising. “As the only providers of adult hospice care in Cornwall, we know there are many more families who would benefit from our special care,” he tells us, “so we’re investing in our staff and facilities to open more beds. In September we were delighted to share the news that we have opened four

more beds this year alone, meaning we now provide nine intensive care beds at each hospice, that’s 18 in total for Cornwall, with more planned to be opened later this year. This directly affects how many people we can care for and our ever-popular Santa events help to fund that care.” All run distances are 1.5 miles or below and people can run, og or walk the cycle is a at five miles along the Camel Trail, all are perfect for all the family. What’s more, every Santa will receive a Santa suit, finisher’s medal and a mince pie! To register your team or find our more, visit the website or get in touch with the team.

SCHOOLS

One of Wild Tipi’s 2019 highlights was the coming together of three Cornish social enterprises, to create a new project for schools across Cornwall and beyond.

ABOVE Giving children the chance to learn and grow in nature 

T

he ‘Room to Grow Project’, launched in July this year at Pensans School, Penzance, was a collaboration between The Rock Pool Project, Wild Tipi and The Character Tree. It was set up to teach children about the natural world and to develop skills in emotional resilience by giving them a chance to learn and play in nature. Held in three of Wild Tipi’s Giant Hat Tipis in the school’s field, the children were taken on a learning journey from the woods to the beach, right on their doorstep. “This was the most extraordinary and joyful week for our children, parents and staff,” explains Head Teacher, Angela Clay. “It enabled all of our children to experience the magical and calming effect of the Giant Tipis, whilst engaging with nature and exploring their own inner resources.” Each of the tipis took children into another world, starting with a woodland experience led by Wild Tipi’s Sam Moore. Here, children were encouraged to take time to explore sensory activities and create woodland crafts, whilst also learning what it takes to set up one of the enormous Giant Hat Tipis, made in the UK from sustainable English pine. They were encouraged to switch off the busy world around them, to engage their senses and experience the benefits of an immersion in nature.

They were then taken to the ‘beach’ in a second tipi, where the Rock Pool Project provided a mobile rock pool, packed full of creatures including four different species of crab, amazing fish, scallops and much, much more. Finally, they were given the chance to develop emotional resilience alongside Shona Pye from the Character Tree, who helped them to re ect on all the positive ualities of their character through being creative and making their own character tree. The children were able to share with each other all the wonderful ualities they had used throughout the morning’s activities, such as creativity, kindness, gentleness and confidence. This is the first step of an amazing ourney to support young people,” says Sam Moore, Partner at Wild Tipi, “by giving them the chance to learn and grow in nature. To see them explore, play and grow in confidence in just one day was truly wonderful.” The hope at Wild Tipi is to build on the success of The Room to Grow Project and to work with schools all around the county to help them learn and grow in nature.
