Dear Reader, Growing up, it became clear to me pretty early on that my family was a little different. While other kids were given Flintstones vitamins, my siblings and I were sent for acupuncture and cupping. Forget chicken noodle soup and cold medicine, I got sage and crystals. For ninth grade 'take your kid to work day,' my friends spent the day with lawyers, accountants, and teachers. I spent my day listening to readings conducted by my mom, the medium.

I quickly learned that many of these holistic healing practices and forms of alternative medicine were not something that everyone knew about. Our amazing team here at Energi Magazine strives to create a space to educate and inform our readers, who are new to this community, as well as create a community where we can learn from each other.

Energi Magazine seeks to promote self-love, healing, and balance throughout the mind, body, and spirit. It is important to us that we are encouraging positivity and kindness through this magazine and we are working hard to present relatable and engaging content. LET'S GET TO THE ROOT OF IT BY: ARIA DE LIMA Originating in India, the chakras first appear in the Vedas between 1500 and 500 BC. While there are many chakras, focus tends to fall on the seven major ones.

This includes the root chakra (Muladara), sacral chakra (Svadhisthana), solar plexus chakra (Manipura), heart chakra (Anahata), throat chakra (Vushuddha), third eye chakra (Ajna) and crown chakra (Sahasrara). The alignment of all of them is directly connected to the physical, mental, and spiritual health of an individual.

Separately each one focuses on specific sections of a person’s being. Together they work like parts of a car, relying on each other to create a fully functioning and highly advanced machine that is in its entirety, a human. As stated before, each chakra needs to be individually aligned in order to allow all of the others to operate at their highest power. So let’s start at the very beginning and get down to the root of it with the root chakra.

WHAT IS THE ROOT CHAKRA?

Try taking some time to tend to your garden, go for a hike, or even just stand outside on the grass or soil in your bare feet. Worry “I am learning that worry doesn’t change an outcome”

As we see the end of summer nearing and we approach the last quarter of the year, the Guides sense that many of you are taking stock concerning where you are in life right now. They see that many of you are feeling as though you should be further ahead in your plans, goals and accomplishments. Some of you are also feeling distressed and disillusion over the state of the world, both your world as an individual and as the global world.

The Guides are seeing that much like fall harvest crops, there are manifestations yet to come in for many of you. They encourage you to release the worry mindset, reminding you that worry is like event planning for something you don’t wish to see happen. Worried thoughts will attract experiences to cause more worry. Instead, you are encouraged to focus on your desired outcome and allow yourself to build and strengthen your faith in the knowing that everything is working out for you.

For some of you, the message is surrounding the worried thoughts you hold for others. The Guides ask you to imagine the energy of the thoughts you hold for and around others. Imagine the energy of those thoughts being painted upon that person. Would you wish for them to be painted in worry or wellbeing? Seeing others in a state of well-being and light, contributes to a higher frequency of energy surrounding them.

For some of you, the message from the Guides is that they sense you wishing you could stop worrying but don’t know how. They invite you to begin to choose some new habits as you move through your day. Prepare yourself with thoughts you can redirect to during times when you are not worried, similar to keeping a tool box in your car. The moment you have a car emergency is a stressful time to start looking for tools, but if you are prepared in advance it gives you a stronger foundation to face stressful situations with more ease and reassurance.

Recognizing that worry will not change the outcome and can often time attract an outcome to cause worry is a huge awareness to embrace.

BY ANDREA SIPCIC While thyme is more commonly known as an herb used for food seasoning, and even in cosmetics and toiletries, it can also be used in the form of an powerful essential oil derived from the same plant, which contains antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antibacterial properties, giving it a cleansing and purifying effect.

It can aid in the reduction/elimination of food borne bacteria and fungi, and alleviate inflammation in the body, making it ideal for oral, respiratory, immune, and heart health. A study conducted by Leeds Metropolitan University demonstrated effective results against acne when using a thyme tincture, which surpassed more conventional anti-acne remedies.

Meditation, simply put, is an individual practice with the intention of being in a state of clarity, allowance, and connection. This includes mental clarity and allowing oneself to connect with their true, inner self, further permitting one to be more in-tuned with who they really are and their core feelings. In addition, by meditating, we can naturally allow ourselves to disconnect from outside sources, distractions, and even from our own thoughts.

Benefits of meditation There are several purposes that can make meditation an important practice to incorporate into one’s life on a regular basis, the most important one being achieving clarity and a deeper connection with one’s true self. With the busyness of daily human life, distractions, and many stimulants (positive and/or negative), there is plenty that can take us away from our deeper, more pure connection with ourselves. With all of these outside distractions, it can get very easy to get deterred from our own inner guidance, true intentions, and feelings. This connection is what meditation can aid us in. Other benefits include:

How to meditate One of the most misperceived aspects to note with meditation is that there is a “right” way to do it.

There is no one right way to meditate, just as there is no one “right” route for you to take to get home.

The first main thing we want to consider is that we are meditating to gain clarity, self-awareness, tranquility, and connection to self. There is no need to “force” yourself to not think or try hard to “control” your thoughts, or do anything specific, as this is another misperceived idea. It’s more the opposite; letting go and allowing yourself to be present in the moment as well as connecting with and focusing on the breath are excellent ways to do that. More specifically, focusing on your own natural inhaling and exhaling.

It can be normal to notice while meditating (especially if you’re just starting off) that you are experiencing some or maybe even a lot of mind chatter. If you already tend to be in your head quite often, this is especially normal. This is where many people tend to run into conflict with themselves while “trying” to mediate. They tend to try to fight and control these thoughts, attempting to “make them stop.” This is where it’s recommended not to push against them. You are going on the momentum of your regular thought patterns, and your mind is so used to following that, and continuing on with them. Instead of trying so hard to stop your thoughts entirely , it’s encouraged to gear your focus somewhere else. This is where the breath comes in. So if and when you notice that thoughts are popping up that you may not want to be engaging with, you can simply turn your attention and awareness back to your breath. You may actually turn your attention to anything that’s consistent in your environment. I.e. meditation music you may be playing, rain or water sounds, or even something as simple as the humming of your heater. It really doesn’t matter, as long as it works for you.

In terms of when to meditate and physical physiology, there are several ways you can about it. Any time of day where you feel you need to reconnect or take a few moments for yourself, that is the “right” time to mediate. It is also strongly recommended to meditate first thing in the morning. This allows yourself and your day to be set with intention, and essentially has the ability to set the mood for your day and how you may want to feel throughout it. About 15 minutes is a general recommended duration for a meditation.

Taking just a few minutes at any time in your day can also suffice for a short meditation when required, especially if a few minutes is all you have available. With deliberate, focused intention, a few minutes may be all you really need.

Many people like to lay down straight on their back on a yoga mat during mediation, or sit up cross legged on the ground, indoors or outdoors. Again, there is no “right way.” Whether it’s one of these ways that you opt for, or you choose to sit on a chair, your bed, on a mat outside by the water with pillows, it’s important to find a space that feels good to you. One recommendation to take note of is not to slouch. Allow your body and posture to be straight or upright, allowing the energy to flow freely.

“Within social media, Yoga is intimidating! You have to represent a certain shape, you need to wear certain clothes, you need to be in a picture perfect setting and be flexible,” she said.

According to a mental health focus survey conducted by The Health of Canada’s Young People, of 26,000 Canadian students surveyed, approximately one-third of girls feel depressed or low on a weekly basis.

“As an elementary school teacher I began teaching Yoga in my classroom to girls as young as seven and eight years of age. I believe that exposure to self-love, self-gratitude, and self-reflection is imperative within the early stages of life so that as they grow older they are already strong in both mind and body,” said Incia.

With a significant increase in people experiencing challenges with mental health, the promotion of self-care and love is something that the world can never have enough of.

The sun entered Virgo 22nd August 2020 bringing focus on our work life, health, well being, vitality and service. A time of harvest. The September full moon is called the Harvest Moon, Corn Moon, or Barley Moon.

The Moon in Pisces brings magic and miracles, ruled by both Neptune and Jupiter. Jupiter presents an opportunity to bring us what we want, while Neptune helps us through spirituality and visualisation, but can also urge us to escape reality, so we have to be wary of that. Of course it is okay to escape in a novel or a movie when we know we are actually in an illusion but it can become tricky when we are using wishful thinking and running with it as Neptune is the planet of wishful thinking.

A Full Moon is an opposition asking for a blend of the two (the Sun and the Moon). With the Sun in Virgo we are guided to be practical, responsible, getting all chores and work things done. Whereas Pisces is about creating and visualising what we want by using the power of manifestation, intention and spirituality. So together, creatively staying grounded and being practical with our dreaming.

Uranus is also turning in harmony with the sun and the moon giving us sudden inspiration and opportunities. They can come from unexpected people and places too. The key to this energy is to take action, don’t let those brilliant ideas pass!

Clearing your crystals By: Aria de Lima

The use of crystals is something that many of us find beneficial. Some of us keep tumbled crystals in our pockets, others wear them as jewelry. While we love the way our crystals take care of us and make us feel, it is important that we take care of them as well. Clearing your crystals is key in ensuring that they are able to continue doing what they do to make you feel good. Think of it like a water filter. The filter itself is the crystal and the energy passing through is the water. When using the crystal, your energy is being filtered through. Negative energy gets caught in the crystal while positive and healing energy is cycled through and returned to the body. Like a filter, if the crystal becomes too full, the crystal will ultimately stop working all together and possibly even break. This now means there is no filter to catch the negative energy when the crystal is in use. Essentially what I am trying to tell you is to make sure you are emptying your crystal filters. It really doesn’t take that much time at all and the small amount of effort you put in will make a big difference on the impact your crystals have on you. Here are three easy ways to cleanse your crystals.

Moonlight/Sunlight: Place your crystals in direct moonlight or sunlight. They only need to be out for a little while, 10 to 20 minutes max. Place them on the windowsill or even give them some fresh air and leave them outside. You can put them directly outside on their own or you can place them in a bowl or plate to keep them together. Almost all containers are fine but try to avoid plastic. While it is safe to leave them outside overnight, be sure to only keep them in the sunlight for a short period of time as the sun may cause them to fade.Â

Incense: Light some of your favourite incense and run your crystals through the smoke. Hold the crystal in your hand and move it through the smoke while focusing on pulling all the negative energy out of the crystal and visualizing it being cleared out. This process can last anywhere from one to two minutes for each crystal. Keep a window or door slightly open to allow the smoke to carry any negative energy out of your space.

Open flame: Hold your crystals over an open flame. Be careful to maintain a safe distance between your hand and the candle. Similarly to using incense, focus on the removal of negative energy. Avoid blowing out the flame as to not transfer your energy into the candle for the next time you use it. Instead, let the candle burn out completely on its own, fan out the flame, or use a candle snuffer.

MAKING SENSE OF INCENSE

By Andrea Sipcic The word incense is derived from the ancient latin word incendere, meaning ‘to burn.’ It is a natural (usually) aromatic substance that produces fragrant smoke when burned. This practice, of burning incense, goes back thousands of years to Ancient Egypt, China, India, and other southern Asian countries, where the practice was widely used for rituals and ceremonial purposes. Incense is used for several different purposes, and has various benefits, one of the most common ones being for energetic clearings in one’s home, or any other environment, mostly in enclosed spaces. Similarly, it is used for one’s own aura and energy cleansing. It can also be used to promote relaxation, a sense of calm, and for one’s own upliftment. This ties into using incense for meditation, another very common practice and purpose of incense use. Incense is typically made up of a blend of natural substances such as plants, herbs, and oils. While commonly seen in the form of sticks, incense can also be found in the form of cones and matches.

Incense sticks: To use an incense stick, start by lighting the end of the stick. Then allow it to burn for a few seconds before gently extinguishing the flame using soft but swift hand movements. Then place the stick in an incense holder and allow it to burn. While burning, you can also gently “wave” the stick around your own body, the body of someone else, or any object or space you wish to clear. These typically will burn for about 30 minutes to 1 hour or more.

Cones: These are used similarly to the incense sticks. It is first ideal to place the cone point side up in the holder, then light the tip, allowing it to ignite before blowing or fanning the flame out. Because of the size, cones will typically burn for a maximum of about 30 minutes, but give off a denser smoke than incense sticks, and the smoke is more vastly spread out in comparison to the sticks. There are many unique cone holders available to showcase the smolder, such as dragon and waterfall structures. Because of the placement of the cone, smoke is directed a certain way depending on the holder. For example, the dragon holder may create the illusion that the smoke is coming out of the dragon’s mouth, or cause the smoke to resemble a real waterfall.

Matches: These burn just like incense, but light like a match. They are like a quicker version of the sticks, when you don’t have a lot of time and need a quick refresher or pick-me-up. Just light the match, and allow it to burn down to about a quarter or half an inch. Then blow out the flame and place the match on an incense holder or any non-flammable surface.

Incense for Root Chakra Balancing

If you enjoy incense, and are looking to incorporate it into chakra balancing meditations and intentions, there are several incense that are specifically geared towards supporting, clearing, and balancing our chakras. For our first base chakra, the root chakra, here are a few different incense sticks available: Chakras, 1st Chakra Muladhara Natural Champa, Dragon’s BloodHEM, Patchouli Natural Scents, Sandalwood Tulasi, Frankincense

The Root Chakra Meal Plan Breakfast: Fruit smoothie For this breakfast smoothie there is really no way to go wrong. The general rule is, the more red, the better. Simply combine some of your favourite red fruits in a blender with some juice, milk, or water and enjoy! Add your choice of protein powder for an extra boost and you have a perfect breakfast to enjoy at home or take on the go.

Some possible fruit combinations include: Strawberries, raspberries, pomegranate Red apple, grapes, watermelon, Cranberries, cherries, beets

Lunch: Roasted red pepper soup Roast red peppers in the oven or on the grill until skin is slightly blackened and then remove the skin and the seeds. Chop up pepper and leave them on the side. Then sauté the onions and garlic in large soup pot with a little bit of cooking oil. Next, add chopped potato and peppers. Add stock and bring to a simmer. Then purée the mixture until smooth. Mix in the cream thoroughly, then add salt and pepper to taste. Pair with a grilled cheese sandwich for a healthy and yummy lunch.

4 large red bell peppers 1 medium yellow/white onion (about 1 cup) 1 large russet potato, peeled and diced (about 1 1/2 cup) 3 cloves garlic 1 quart chicken stock (or vegetable stock ) 1/4 cup cream or milk Cayenne, salt and pepper to taste

Snack:Yogurt with berries and granola Scoop some of your favourite into a bowl. Add granola and top with your favourite red fruits. Cranberries, strawberries and raspberries are great for this recipe.

Yogurt Granola Red fruits of your choice (pomegranate, strawberries, cherries, raspberries, cranberries etc.)

Dinner: Pasta with tomato sauce

First bring a large pot of water to a boil and then add your pasta of choice. In a large pan add oil and sautĂŠ the onions and garlic.

Next add cherry tomatoes, chopped red peppers, and baby spinach. Add salt and pepper to taste and mix well. Mix in tomato sauce and bring to a simmer. Add pasta and mix well. Top with parmesan and enjoy! You can also sprinkle some chilli flakes on top for a little kick.

Pasta Tomato sauce 1/2 small white onion (about 1/4 cup) Minced garlic Cherry tomatoes (cut in half) 1 large red pepper chopped Baby spinach Salt and pepper Parmesan cheese

Dessert: Fully loaded crepes Mix dry ingredients together in a large bowl (flour, salt). Mix wet ingredients separately. Gradually pour wet mixture into the dry mixture and wisk together until smooth. Take small scoop (about 1/4 cup) and pour into hot pan. Leave for 1-2 minutes or until the bottom is brown. Then flip and leave until brown or golden on the other side. Top with whipped cream, strawberries, and strawberry ice cream for the perfect dessert.

Are you ready to create change in an area of your life? Changing your mindset is an integral part of creating change. Here are some tips to help build a mind set to move you towards sustainable change.

Dress and act for the role you wish to play.

Look for someone who has already achieved or acquired the change that you wish to implement into your life. Observe their lifestyle, behaviours, social circles, daily routines. Evaluate if any of those are in line with choices you would like to make, and then put them into practice. For example, if you would like to become more fit, you may choose to embody the habits of a fitness expert or a friend who you deem to be fit. Where do they work out? What time do they wake up and go to sleep? What does their diet look like? How much time do they dedicate to their fitness routine? What kind of clothes do they wear? TOXIC MASCULINITY: NOT JUST A BUZZWORD BY:

The MacMillan Dictionary describes toxic masculinity as: “...an adherence to traditional male gender roles that expect boys and men to show few emotions and assert their dominance.”

When I first heard that term I did not like it. It didn’t sit well with me. On social media I’d see the word “toxic” thrown around to describe other people's unsavory actions or personality traits. My ex, my son's father, my baby’s mother, my boss - they’re toxic.

Like most people, I had never actually taken the time to research the term or its origins. As it turns out, toxic masculinity succinctly describes a very unfortunate tipping point in our society. In his 2018 book “Dissolving Toxic Masculinity”, relationship expert Dr Thomas Haller wrote:

“Men have learned that to be masculine they must be powerful and unrelenting. Manhood is claimed by taking ownership of things. Money, real estate, social status, and sexual conquest have become the valued commodities that represent power and strength. Power over another, or what sociologists for years have termed "dominance behavior," is seen as the core virtue of masculinity. A set of societal standards now dictates that men be strong, unemotional, aggressive, and dominant over women.”

To dominate or exploit others has become the benchmark of manhood. Your favorite movie hero is probably an ass-kicking, womanizing, macho man. The exploits of athletes, rock stars and business men have been celebrated for many years...until now.

Here we sit on the cusp of the U.S. presidential election, the term toxic masculinity has been bantered about quite a bit. The current U.S. President Donald Trump, surprisingly, has been applauded by many Americans for numerous racist and misogynistic comments dating back to the early days of his run as a presidential candidate. (Which is just as much of an indictment of American values as it is of the President himself.)

The Democratic party nominee, Joe Biden, is lovingly referred to as “Creepy Uncle Joe” by many Americans. He does indeed have a penchant for being creepy. There are numerous YouTube compilations with squeamishly uncomfortable footage of the longtime Senator awkwardly touching women, sniffing women’s hair and forcing unwanted hugs on young girls. How are they able to get away with this?

The answer for both men is simple. Other men are not holding these men accountable. In order for the oppressed to overcome oppression, they need the support of those not a part of the oppression. The same way that African-Americans needed white allies, women need male allies. Women don’t necessarily need men to save them. Over the centuries there have been many times when women were the ones doing the saving.

Women need allies in the form of men that hold other men accountable. Way before things progress to serious allegations and criminal charges, there were/are men in their circles that did not speak up. Men that chose to look the other way or possibly even egged on the bad behavior. I was shocked and a bit embarrassed to learn that people close to men like R. Kelly, Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein and Jeffery Epstein all knew (or knew of) what these people were doing and never said a word.

An acquaintance of mine got into some trouble a while back for roughing up his wife. They had a disagreement that started with words and turned physical. He sought out the counsel of a respected clergyman in town. During the course of the conversation, the pastor minimized what had happened by telling my friend that ‘sometimes women don’t know their place and they need a not-so-gentle reminder.’ He went on to admit that he too had roughed his wife up on occasion.

Instead of holding him accountable the pastor basically said it was ok, and that is happening far too often among men. As men we must hold other males in our circle accountable. We must be willing to speak up. Exploiting others by way of sexual abuse, sexual misconduct, or through violence is not manly. More importantly, injustice for any group of people is an injustice for everyone. Although society works hard to categorize us and thus separate us, we are one.

In 1906, William Walter Atkinson wrote “Thought Vibration or the Law of Attraction in the Thought World”. This was followed by Wallace Delois Wattles’ book, ‘The Science of Getting Rich’ in 1910 and Napoleon Hill’s ‘Think and Grow Rich,’ written in 1937.

Jerry and Esther Hicks, authors of ‘(The Teachings of Abraham) Ask and It Is Given,’ defined the Law of Attraction as “That which is like unto itself is drawn”. Michael J. Losier, author of “The Law of Attraction, The Science of Attracting More of What You Want and Less of What You Don’t,’ offered the following definition of the Law of Attraction in his book: “I attract to my life whatever I give my attention, energy and focus to, whether positive or negative. ”The term vibrational frequency is often used to describe the energy one emits. Oftentimes people expect the order to be ready as soon as they are finished placing it. The Law of Attraction works through divine timing to deliver your desire in the most optimal way. Another pitfall is when people begin to doubt the manifestation is coming. This tends to cause delays as you focus on the lack of your desire, which only attracts more of a lack of your desire.

While this is a brief overview of the Law of Attraction, it really comes down to focusing on what you do want. Thinking thoughts about what you do want, speaking about what you do want, daydreaming about having it, and what it will feel like, are all things you can do to become a vibrational match to your desires.

This was definitely the case for Emily Reaux, who turned to a tarot card deck given to her by her Granny when she found herself looking for guidance on her Twin flame journey. While she had been exposed to her intuitive being through her practice of meditation, the use of the tarot cards brought everything to a new level.

"Once I began to use the tarot cards, the messages increased with more intensity, clarity, and frequency,” she said.

It was this intense shift that led to her mother suggesting that she offer readings for others online. With a University degree in Math and a plan to become an actuary, Emily began to take her readings online.

In addition to her new journey with online readings, Emily was also fencing on a national level for the UK. Her schedule consisted of training in the morning, attending her full time job during the day, and then going home to do her readings.

Emily offers live readings in addition to meditations, yoga, and other practices and tools that promote and support the evolution of her members.

She has also created her own oracle deck and is now in the process of creating her own online platform called Sacred Space.
