Endo Black, Incorporated is a black-women-led nonprofit organization advocating for African American women and women of color affected by endometriosis.

Our philosophy is to engage, educate, and encourage endo sisters everywhere.

We anticipate connecting African American women and women of color affected by endometriosis, providing the community with accurate, enriching, and valuable resources, and continuing the fight for health equity.

Dear Esteemed Guests,

As we prepare for the fifth year of our journey with Endo Black Incorporated, I am filled with gratitude for the incredible strides we?ve made and the promising path that lies ahead. In a time where the highest court of the land has sometimes ruled against the very people it?s meant to protect, where dedicated doctors must uproot their lives to pursue their calling, and where individuals grappling with endometriosis often feel lost in a healthcare desert. It is in these moments that our purpose at Endo Black, Inc. becomes even more crucial.

Our mission is clear: to advocate for and educate African American women and women of color living with endometriosis and we stand committed to our community, unwavering In our dedication to engage, educate, and encourage endosisters everywhere. As the only Black-led endometriosis organization tailored to serve African American women and women of color, we hold a unique responsibility.

Let us not forget the remarkable milestones of the past four and a half years, where we?ve had the privilege to exist. Our work isn?t always adorned in glamour, nor is it without its challenges or expenses. Yet, it is through our unwavering resolve, our steadfast consistency, and ability to shine brightly in every endeavor, that we persistently triumph.

To ensure our collective impact continues to grow, let us embrace the following three actions: Empower Through Education: Share knowledge about endometriosis and its effects.

Educate others about the challenges and triumphs that come with it.

Engage and Uplift: Actively connect with one another. Share your stories, listen, and offer support.

Encourage Advocacy: Be a voice for change. Advocate for improved access to healthcare, support research efforts, and champion policies that benefit those living with endometriosis.

Mistress of Ceremony Liz Smith is an American radio personality, producer, host, voice over artist and writer.

Liz pursued her career in Journalism at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, receiving her degree in Journalism j Electronic Media. Upon graduating, she established a position in promotions with 92.9 The Game and a couple years later saw an open opportunity with its sister station, V103. She began working as a board operator and took up an interest in producing which led to a promotion as the producer of the midday show on V103. Within her first few years of working in a fast, top 10 market radio industry, Liz Smith earned time on-air as a weekend personality, media correspondent and contributing writer to articles online for Audacy.

Liz now serves as the Executive Producer of the nationally syndicated Ed Lover9s Experience radio show. Passionate about producing and delivering accurate, up to date news and entertainment stories, Liz9s move from promotions assistant to executive producer and on-air talent was a natural fit.

Her coverage of entertainment and lifestyle news has appeared in Ebony, Bossip, 21Ninety and Yahoo News. She9s also had the privilege of working as a host and moderator for Essence, Rolling Loud, BET Her, Revolt Network, Empire Record Label and more.

In 2019 she created a back-to-school giveaway with her girlfriends, entitled 6Squad Goals Back to School Giveaway,7 and gifted one young lady between the ages of 14 - 18 years old a free back to school hairstyle. The mission behind the giveaway was to inspire, encourage and uplift young girls in their teenage years, serving as a mentor to them for years to come.

Liz is a proud advocate for Endometriosis and had the pleasure of serving as a host/moderator for the inaugural African-American led Endometriosis conference Standing On The Front-Line: Endo Black9s Advocate j Allies Conference presented by Endo Black Incorporated. In 2021, she started an Endometriosis Awareness Month giveaway and gifted numerous women who suffer from Endometriosis products from partnering sponsors.

Liz Smith9s many years of hard work and experience, coupled with her down to earth and easy-going personality makes her a joy and breath of fresh air within the entertainment and music industry.

DR. SOYINI HAWKINS Keynote Speaker Dr. Soyini Hawkins is a boardcertified gynecology physician, fellowship trained Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgeon. She is the founder and co-owner of the Fibroid and Pelvic Wellness Center of Georgia located in the suburbs of Atlanta, GA. She attended undergrad at Xavier University of Louisiana, a master9s program in health systems management at Tulane University, and received her medical degree in Georgia at Morehouse School of Medicine. She completed her Internship and Residency training at the University of Maryland Medical Center Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences as well as a 2-year fellowship program in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and Pelvic Reconstruction at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. She has a strong interest in laparoscopic surgery and provides specialized surgical management of abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, and most benign gynecologic conditions.

Dr. Hawkins has been featured as a field expert in regional and national television, radio, and print including Good Morning America, MSNBC, Essence, USAToday, and numerous local news segments. She enjoys podcasting and speaking as a patient advocate at patient-centered events.

Her influence reaches far beyond the operating room as she is thought of as an expert in her field and serves as an advisor and national speaker for numerous foundations, and industry companies.

DR. SOYINI HAWKINS Keynote Speaker Humble Beginnings Dr. Hawkins was born in the parish of Manchester, Jamaica W.I. to the daughter of a businesswoman and a farmer and the son of a civil engineer. Her parents moved to America to attend college, and to prepare the way for her and her older brother while they were cared for by their grandparents on the island. Dr. Hawkins came to the US when she was four and has been role modeled by the examples of very hardworking and ambitious parents since.

Patient Care With a genuine passion for the physical, emotional, and overall health and well-being of women, Dr. Hawkins has dedicated herself to caring for the whole person by creating a partnering relationship with her patients. She strives to assist individuals in making informed health decisions through teaching and ensuring the understanding of one9s health status. Her skill set and style allow patients to become proactive partners in their health care.

Mother, Wife, Advocate Soyini and her husband Osei met and wed in Atlanta, Georgia. They both moved to Baltimore after the wedding where she completed her medical training. They returned to Atlanta in 2014 to raise their two sons near extended family. Dr. Hawkins is active in her church and community as a member of several societies and a participant in numerous outreach endeavors. She is a beloved member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and Jack and Jill of America, Inc. As a fibroid and endometriosis warrior herself, she is passionate not only about treating women but empowering, advocating, and educating the masses to gain a better understanding of female afflictions. She feels her wellness journey is a true testament to life beyond these ailments and encourages all women to live THEIR best healthy life!

ENTERTAINMENT Leanne 6L-Stringz7 Holmes is a professional violinist ad entertainer. Originally from Atlanta, GA, she has been classically trained for close to two decades, and has developed her niche in performing contemporary music such as Hip-Hop and RnB. L-Stringz has performed for and with some of the top venues/artists to date including: The Atlanta Hawks, The Atlanta Dream, The Harlem Globetrotters, Honda Battle of the Bands, 2Chainz, 50 Cent, 85 South Show, and more.

Her passion for violin started at her elementary school to serve as an outlet for bullying and racism she faced from her time in school, and it was in high school where she created 6L-Stringz.

In every performance, L-Stringz provides a 6New Music Experience7 that engages the audience to be able to connect with music on a more personal level. Her goal when performing is to show violin in spaces that you don9t see. L-Stringz has been featured on shows such as Married to Medicine, and 6STAR7 on FOX as well as programs for the NFL, WNBA, CIAA, New York Fashion Week, and Rolling Out Magazine. Outside of her performing, L-Stringz is an advocate for arts education, teaches private music lessons virtually. Additionally she is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity for Women.

Jeffrey Guillaume, also known as JeffreyG Poetry, is a talented poet from East Orange, New Jersey. He travels and spreads messages of inspiration, motivation, and love through his passionate poetry and stage performances.

Jeffrey discovered his love for the performing arts while attending Benedict College in Columbia, SC. He is celebrated as one of South Carolina?s top poets, winning poetry slams and performing at various venues. With a degree in Public Health, Jeffrey now travels the country teaching health seminars, spoken word, and writing workshops. He is dedicated to connecting with youth and showing them alternative ways of self-expression through poetry. In 2013, Jeffrey discovered the empowering Literacy Program, >Write Yourself Free.> He has also been recognized as the 2015 SC AHF Poetry Slam Champion and the 2015 AHF National Poetry Slam Grand Champion.

Craig Beacham is a professional saxophonist and music educator from the DMV. He is a product of Prince George?s County schools which nurtured his love for music and education.

Craig attended Florida A j M University, where he served as Drum Major for the world-renowned >Marching 100> marching band. Being a member of the >Marching 100> afforded him extraordinary opportunities, such as performing in the Super Bowl halftime show with Prince Rogers Nelson and being a part of the presidential inaugural parade for Barack Obama. Craig performs nationally and internationally to a wide array of audiences and loves how the >universal language> of music speaks to everyone.

ABOUT ENDO BLACK Endo Black, Incorporated is a black-women-led organization advocating for African American women and women of color affected by endometriosis in Oxon Hill, MD and established in April 2019, incorporated in April 2020, and gained nonprofit status in May 2021. The organization addresses advocacy for endometriosis among African American women and women of color, providing a safe space, producing opportunities for endosisterly love, educational and enriching programs with a wealth load of beneficial resources.

The problems Endo Black, Inc. solves are African American women are constantly being misdiagnosed, have limited resources, and have little research for African American women. The organization makes a difference within the community and is committed to advocacy work around endometriosis and fighting for health equity.

The organization plays a vital role in the lives of many women battling endometriosis, as evidenced by provided feedback surveys issued within the community. They target African American women and women of color ages 18 to 45 in the Washington Baltimore. Though they are located in the DMV Area, Endo Black, Inc. has rapidly grown through its online platforms outside of the area to New York, Georgia, Florida, Arizona, North Carolina, Michigan, and California, according to metrics through their website and social media platforms.

Endo Black Ambassador Program Over 50 women have successfully graduated from the Endo Black Ambassador program, many of whom have continued to actively support and volunteer for Endo Black, Inc. This program has given endo sister the opportunitty to participate in facilitating focus groups, reviewing and recommending policies and bills, and assisting with research.

Virtual Events Endo Black, Inc. has organized more than 21 virtual events, covering a range of crucial topics such as relationships, marriage, sex, endometriosis diet, pain management, mental health, skincare, and haircare.

Menstrual Care Donations Endo Black, Inc. has generously contributed over 40,000 menstrual care items to various organizations and institutions in the Washington-Baltimore Region.

Beneficiaries include Potomac Job Corps Center, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Alpha Alpha Lambda Omega, Pink Illusion Dance Team, Samaritan?s Inn Women, District Alliance Safe Housing, and more.

Research Endeavors Endo Black, Inc. collaborated with George Mason University, College of Public Health, to successfully complete the research study, Endo-Served. The organization is actively engaged in multiple ongoing research projects in partnership with various institutions and organizations.

African American and Endometriosis Workshop Endo Black, Inc. hosted a series of four impactful workshops on African American and Endometriosis, led by the accomplished facilitator Kimether Redmon, MPH, MSN, FNP-C. Period Care Kit Initiative Since January 2023, Endo Black volunteers have assembled and distributed 1,500 essential period care kits.

Tampon Accessibility Tampon baskets have been strategically placed at Congress Heights Arts and Cultural Center in Washington, DC, and Creative Suitland in Suitland, MD, ensuring easy access for those in need.

Providing Items Now to Kids (P.I.N.K.) Initiative Six high schools, spanning Prince George9s County, Baltimore County, and Anne Arundel County in Maryland, have enthusiastically joined the P.I.N.K. Initiative, supporting students with essential items.

Mini Talk Series The Mini Talk Series pilot program, initiated in April 2023 at Howard University and Morgan State University, saw a total attendance of 53 students. Future plans include visits to additional colleges and universities. www.endoblack.org www.eb-awardgala.com

Misconceptions ABOUT ENDOMETRIOSIS

Myth Endometriosis is rare.

One in ten individuals of reproductive age in the United States have endometriosis/making it one of the most common gynecologic disorders, but that only includes women who have been diagnosed.

Myth Women with endo only suffer pain during their period.

There is pain, but when you hurt and how much aren?t always accurate indicators. Pain can be intermittent or ongoing.

Myth There?s no clearly understood cause for endometriosis, which means there?s no Endometriosis can be prevented.

The most common locations for endometriosis growths are within the pelvis, but endometriosis may occur anywhere in the body as it is a complete body disorder.

Myth Endometriosis always improves after menopause.

While symptoms of endometriosis improve in many women, menopause doesn?t bring relief to all.

Myth Pregnancy cures endometriosis.

There is no cure for endometriosis, but there are a few cases where those who give birth may have no more pain or less pain. There are also some cases where the pain comes back worse, and each case is different.

Myth Teenagers don?t suffer from endometriosis

Teenagers and young women in their early 20s are not too young to have endometriosis; most women experience symptoms during adolescence but unfortunately don?t get diagnosed and treated until they are in their 20s or 30s.

JAHNA MERRITT

Best Content Award

Jahna Merritt is a Virginia-based, passionate content creator with a Communications/Public Relations degree and an Art minor in Photography. Jahna graduated from Bridgewater College in May 2015. Merritt9s influence for uplifting and motivating people ignited while in college.

Jahna was a part of a non-profit organization called Precious Gems Academy, which deals with at-risk young females aged 5 to 15. She contributed 10-15 hours a week as a dedicated mentor. Jahna proposed and received a F2,000 grant for an Etiquette luncheon called 6Building The Foundation: One Skill At A Time7 for 30 at-risk youth.

During her event, she demonstrated how to use utensils and set the table properly. Afterward, they shared a threecourse meal while the room filled with laughter and positive energy. The boys and girls also learned basic hygiene techniques and essential life skills. Many photos were taken to document the memories that will be forever embedded in the children she inspired.

Jahna was also a 2022 Endo Black Ambassador. Jahna found out she had Endometriosis back in 2014. She didn9t attempt to look into Endometriosis in depth until joining this fantastic organization filled with community outreach and sisterhood.

Today, you9ll find Jahna working at Capital One as a Principal Coordinator specializing in Quality Assurance. There, she is dedicated to providing excellent service and dedication. She is also known for coordinating and hosting events for the workplace. Off the clock, Jahna is all about going to new places and trying new restaurants while creating content to share with her audience. Jahna is forever lending a helping hand to anyone in need, no matter if she9s on vacation or out at events. She is all about supporting those who surround her.

Currently, Jahna is pursuing perinatal studies specializing in postpartum geared towards women with autoimmune needing assistance in support and services. Also, Ms. Merritt is helping lead ladies in real estate and maternal health areas prepare and launch content.

Heather Guidone, BCPA (she/her) is the Program Director of the Center for Endometriosis Care (CEC), where she is responsible for the CEC9s comprehensive multidisciplinary treatment program, clinical research facilitation as a Principal Investigator site, and the Center9s extensive disease education, advocacy, support, and legislative/public policy endeavors to promote better care and access for endometriosis and pelvic pain gynepathologies. She also coordinates the CEC?s MIGS/Endometriosis Surgical Fellowship Program. As a Board Certified Patient Advocate (first national cohort), she is internationally known for her collaborative work across the global endometriosis community. She is a Reviewer for the Medical Research Grant Program of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health/Office on Women9s Health; a Reviewer for the BMJ International Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare; a Member of the Review j Voting Panels of the United States Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs; and many other grant and scientific abstract committees.

Heather is also a Member of the Center for Information j Study on Clinical Research Participation Advisory j Editorial Review Panel, which is committed to improving Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Clinical Research.

Heather has been profiled extensively by various media serving as a voice on endometriosis, including on the Emmyn Award-winning Lifetime Television network and as subject matter expert featured in the EndoWhat? and Below the Belt documentaries. She continues to serve as an Advisor and international Panelist for many of the EndoWhat? global screenings of Below the Belt, which was executive produced by Hillary Rodham Clinton and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Shannon Cohn. Most recently, she was a featured subject on Today Online.

She continues to lend her support to various policy endeavors including testifying before legislators on various Bills, and is a core Member of the EndoWhat? working group Advisory team, which has presented to the United States Congress and other legislative endeavors. She remains an active and engaged member of several professional organizations including the American Public Health Association, the Patient Advocate Certification Board, the Society for Menstrual Cycle Research, and countless others. Her priority focus remains on elevating advocacy efforts to reduce the time to diagnosis, increasing disease research funding, improving equitable access to effective, value-driven and patient-informed care, and ensuring stakeholder representation in all places where decisions about endometriosis are being made.

AT-LARGE DC COUNCILMEMBER CHRISTINA HENDERSON

Legislative Advancement Award Christina Henderson is an At-Large member of the Council of the District of Columbia.

Christina9s career has been guided by the principle that one9s zip code should not determine your opportunity for success. Prior to her election in 2020, Christina advised Sen. Chuck Schumer on education, workforce, postal and census issues. She previously served in various capacities in DC government, including working at the Council and for DC Public Schools. The daughter of an Army veteran and a retired Transport Workers Union Local 100 member, Christina received her BA in Political Science from Furman University in Greenville, SC and her Master in Public Affairs degree from Princeton University. Christina lives in the Petworth neighborhood with her husband Nu, their daughters Jordan and Cameron, and rescue dog Langston.

At-Large DC Councilmember Christina Henderson introduced legislation that would require individual health plans, group plans, or health insurers offering health insurance coverage through Medicaid and the D.C. Healthcare Alliance program to provide coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. The historic legislation was approved unanimously by the DC Council. This new law will impact DC residents and will require insurance coverage for infertility treatments, including IVF and fertility preservation, beginning January 1, 2025, as well as some coverage through Medicaid and the DC Healthcare Alliance program, beginning January 1, 2024. Thank you to Councilmember Christina Henderson for championing this comprehensive and inclusive legislation. DC now joins 14 states that require IVF coverage and 16 states with fertility preservation coverage, and it matches the only state (New York) to provide Medicaid coverage for medically necessary ovulation drugs and monitoring.

SOYINI HAWKINS, MD, MPH, FACOG Endo Medical Disruptor Dr. Soyini Hawkins is a board-certified gynecology physician, fellowship trained Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgeon. She is the founder and co-owner of the Fibroid and Pelvic Wellness Center of Georgia located in the suburbs of Atlanta, GA. She attended undergrad at Xavier University of Louisiana, a master9s program in health systems management at Tulane University, and received her medical degree in Georgia at Morehouse School of Medicine. She completed her Internship and Residency training at the University of Maryland Medical Center Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences as well as a 2-year fellowship program in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and Pelvic Reconstruction at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Hawkins has been featured as a field expert in regional and national television, radio, and print including Good Morning America, MSNBC, Essence, USAToday, and numerous local news segments. She enjoys podcasting and speaking as a patient advocate at patient-centered events. Her influence reaches far beyond the operating room as she is thought of as an expert in her field and serves as an advisor and national speaker for numerous foundations, and industry companies.

Dr. Hawkins was born in the parish of Manchester, Jamaica W.I. to the daughter of a businesswoman and a farmer and the son of a civil engineer. Her parents moved to America to attend college, and to prepare the way for her and her older brother while they were cared for by their grandparents on the island. Dr. Hawkins came to the US when she was four and has been role modeled by the examples of very hardworking and ambitious parents since.

With a genuine passion for the physical and overall health and well-being of women, Dr. Hawkins has dedicated herself to caring for the whole person by creating a partnering relationship with her patients.

Soyini and her husband Osei met and wed in Atlanta, Georgia. They both moved to Baltimore after the wedding where she completed her medical training. They returned to Atlanta in 2014 to raise their two sons near extended family. She is a beloved member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and Jack and Jill of America, Inc. As a fibroid and endometriosis warrior herself, she is passionate not only about treating women but empowering, advocating, and educating the masses to gain a better understanding of female afflictions. She feels her wellness journey is a true testament to life beyond these ailments and encourages all women to live THEIR best healthy life!

ENDO WHAT?, SHANNON COHN Inclusive & Connected Communities Award Shannon Cohn, JD, is a filmmaker, lawyer and social impact producer who has worked across Africa, Europe, the Middle East j the Americas on topics related to gender equity, inclusion initiatives and combating stigma and taboo. Her films and TV series have aired on PBS, Nat Geo, Discovery Channel, Amazon and Netflix. Her new PBS documentary Below the Belt, executive produced by Hillary Clinton and Rosario Dawson, approaches endometriosis as a social justice issue. The film is one element of a larger social impact plan to create meaningful change in endometriosis and women?s health including increased research funding, policy changes, medical education initiatives and widespread awareness.

As one part of that strategic plan, Shannon co-taught a Bioethics class at Harvard Medical School in 2023 utilizing the film.

Her previous film Endo What? was called >the first step in a plan for change> by Newsweek and >film of the year> by The Guardian. Before becoming a filmmaker, Shannon practiced international law and was part of the legal team that prosecuted Enron Corp in the largest white-collar crime investigation in FBI history. She has endometriosis and has two young daughters who have a 7x increased risk of having the disease. Below the Belt and Endo What are two documentary films that are integral parts of a larger social movement for change in endometriosis, including medical education, engagement with policymakers and widespread awareness.

Endometriosis Organization of the Year Shantana Hazel is an Award-winning Health Advocate, Community Research Fellow, International Speaker, Founder of Sister Girl Foundation, Inc., j Self-Published Author of A New Me: Mind, Body, Soul, Health j Wellness Journal and 28 Ways On How To Advocate For Your Healthcare.

Shantana created The Sister Girl Foundation in 2010, a non-profit organization geared towards providing awareness, education, support, and advocacy to individuals with Endometriosis, Infertility, Breast and Ovarian Cancers. Throughout the foundation she has been providing advocacy, support groups, educational and financial resources, workshops, and events to bring the community together and keep them knowledgeable.

She also offers specialized workshop courses for healthcare providers to help promote patient-centered healthcare, helping to bridge the gap between patients and healthcare providers to encourage healthy relationship building and provide ways to better advocate and support women9s health. Shantana has collaborated with countless medical professionals and other community leaders to combat health disparities/inequities in underserved communities.

She was honored as an 6Endometriosis Champion7 by The Circle of Champions organization in Brooklyn, NY. Shantana was the recipient of the Northern Belle j The Black Man Can 6Exquisite Women U.N.I.T.E. Award. She received proclamations from Connecticut, Massachusetts and the State of New York, Brooklyn Borough for her dedication and commitment advocating for women9s healthcare all around the world.

She was honored and inducted into the first class of 6100 Women of Color7 for Believing, Achieving, and Inspiring others through Acts of Community Service.

Shantana is a mother, grandmother and Sister Girl who loves to give back to her community, spending time with family and friends. A fun fact about Shantana is that she loves to perform Karaoke. It is one of her favorite hobbies that she hosts at home for game nights. She has a bright light within her that can shine in any room she steps into.

NATASHA ALDRIDGE Catalyst of Change Award

Natasha Aldridge is a Black Maternal Mental Health Advocate for Reproductive Justice, Advanced Full Spectrum Prison/ Community Doula and Trainer, and is the Founder of Natural Queen Essentials and Soul in Justice. She currently resides in Richmond, VA with her two miracle children Nia and Tavia. Her education started in Criminal Justice at a local HBCU Virginia Union University and continued into Strayer University with a Bachelors of Business Administration/Management.

She furthered her career by taking Medical Billing and Coding and Nursing, but due to her Stage IV Severe Endometriosis she had to decline Nursing School and she began embracing her pain management journey of Endometriosis undergoing two laparoscopy surgeries and two failed IVF cycles due to secondary infertility alongside being medically put through menopause. After taking matters into her own hands, she9s now known in her town as 6The Endo Doula ?? to assist with fertility and endometriosis coaching. Birth work is where she found her passion assisting with more than 50 local hospital births, birth centers and home births but that is not where she stopped.

With the goal of advocating, awareness and equity. She is now a Perinatal Educator and is an Advanced Prison Doula to work with incarcerated birthing persons nationally and facilitate Doula training. Specializing in trauma-informed, substance abuse and domestic/physical violence clients.

Education is important to her so alongside doing the work she is continuing to educate herself and in the process of becoming a Certified Lactation Counselor and have a Masters of Public Health, Maternal Mental Health.

Natasha Aldridge accomplishments include supporting over 50 clients for local community hospitals such as VCU and Henrico Doctors. Has conducted three home births, seven justice involved births with separation and lactation support, postpartum support of 10 and lactation support of five. Leading Five Endometriosis Peer Support Groups for middle school students and providing non toxic menstrual products at community events.
