Educational Studies Early Childhood Education Elementary Education
Secondary Education Concentration Students will choose a major in one of the following content areas: biology/biotech (biology license 8-12); environmental (earth & space science license 8-12); English (English license 5-12); history (history license 5-12); or math (math license 5-8 or 8-12).
Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requires teacher candidates to pass the applicable Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) to qualify for educator licensure. Endicott’s licensure programs align coursework with the knowledge and skills assessed by the relevant MTELs and provide students with preparation, advising, and support throughout the testing process. Passing the MTELs is a state licensure requirement; it is not a requirement for admission to, continued enrollment in, or completion of Endicott’s undergraduate education program. Students are encouraged to complete the required MTELs according to the recommended testing timeline so they are prepared to apply for licensure upon graduation.

Endicott education majors build their teaching credentials starting with the a first-year internship aimed at testing out and exploring their major. Each year following, students add one or two progressively more in-depth field experiences, ultimately creating a professional network and graduating with up to five field experiences and a two-page resume. On average, Endicott students complete twice the required amount of teaching hours.

During the summer after your first year, complete an observational clinical experience at an educational site near home. Through observation, guided reflection, and participation in the learning environment, you will begin developing your teacher identity and understanding of the education profession.
Complete a second clinical experience by spending two half-days each week throughout the semester in a diverse classroom setting. This placement emphasizes literacy development and social awareness. It provides opportunities to observe and support instruction in practice.
Spend three full days each week in a classroom while completing related methods and/or content courses. Educational Studies students complete a junior field experience, while licensure candidates complete their prepracticum. In both pathways, students participate in the professional life of an educator, receive feedback, and gain increasingly independent experience in an educational setting.
Complete your senioryear experiential learning through a full-semester placement. Licensure candidates complete a supervised practicum, while Educational Studies students complete an immersive field experience aligned with their professional interests and career goals.
Master’s Programs Endicott offers flexible graduate pathways that allow School of Education graduates to continue their studies through an accelerated admission process. Graduate programs include the M.Ed. in Curriculum Design and Instruction, with licensure pathways in Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education; and non-licensure concentrations in Literacy, Social Emotional Learning, Reggio Emilia, and General Studies. Additional options include the M.S. in Reading and Literacy Instruction for Reading Specialist licensure; M.Ed. programs in Moderate and Severe Disabilities; and graduate programs in Applied Behavior Analysis and School Counseling. Select nonlicensure master’s programs may be completed in as little as one full-time academic year, while licensure and professional programs require additional coursework and field experiences.
Teaching Fellows This competitive year-long residency provides Endicott Graduates an opportunity to gain valuable classroom experience while completing a master’s degree that counts toward initial, professional, or specialist licensure in Massachusetts. Teaching Fellows start work in a partnering district immediately after receiving their bachelor’s degree. The master’s degree is paid for by the partner public school.
