Educational Studies Early Childhood Education Elementary Education

Secondary Education Concentration Students will choose a major in one of the following content areas: biology/ biotech (biology license 8-12); environmental (earth & space science license 8-12); English (English license 5-12); history (history license 5-12); or math (math license 5-8 or 8-12).

Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL)

Global study & internship opportunities available to qualifying students

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education mandates that teacher candidates pass the required MTEL in order to obtain a teaching license. Endicott incorporates the relevant MTEL tests into its licensure programs.

Students must pass the Communication & Literacy MTEL, plus one additional MTEL, prior to enrolling in junior year pre-practicum and methods courses.

All MTELs must be passed prior to registering for senior year practicum.

Experiential Learning through Field Experiences

Past Internship & Co-Op Sites:

Endicott education majors build their teaching credentials starting with the freshman internship aimed at testing out and exploring the major. Each year following, students add one or two progressively more in-depth field experiences, ultimately creating a professional network and graduating with six field experiences and a two-page resume. On average, Endicott students complete twice the required amount of teaching hours.

Junior Year: If you are in a licensure program, you will participate in a 120-hour prepracticum classroom experience and a 60-hour placement in a local classroom with English language learners.

Senior Year: Complete your experiential learning with a full-semester field experience.

Medford Public Schools

First Year: You will gain early hands-on experience with a 120-hour internship at an education site of your choosing.

Sophomore Year: Complete a second 120-hour internship in a diverse setting.

If you are enrolled in a licensure program, you will also complete a 60-hour literacy placement.

Fifth Year Master’s Programs Endicott College offers Fifth Year M.Ed. programs, some of which can be completed in as little as one academic year. Master’s programs include early childhood education, elementary education, reading & literacy, secondary education, special education: moderate disabilities, and special education: severe disabilities. Programs are also offered in applied behavior analysis (ABA); these programs can be completed in just over two years. School of Education graduates will be granted accelerated acceptance to Fifth Year M.Ed. programs.

Teaching Fellows This competitive year-long residency provides students an opportunity to gain valuable classroom experience while completing a master’s degree that counts toward initial, professional, or specialist licensure in Massachusetts.

Teaching Fellows start work in a partnering district immediately after receiving their bachelor’s degree. The master’s degree is paid for by the partner public school.
