EnCore’s Heritage

LIFT is a relatively young company, but our heritage goes back 45 years.

The EnCore Group

The EnCore Group is comprised of three aerospace companies, working together to redefine passenger experiences.

Over that time, we have designed and manufactured interior products for nearly every commercial aircraft – seats, galleys, lavatories, monuments, ceilings, floor panels, and more.

Jim Downey founded C&D Aerospace in 1972, growing the organization organically to a multinational, 4,000 employee, $400 million enterprise before selling the business in 2005. The other half of the EnCore ownership, Tom McFarland, joined forces with Jim in 1986 to help build the business and remained

with C&D after the sale to continue the growth path to over 5,000 employees and $650 million in sales before reuniting with Jim in 2011.

Jim and Tom joined forces to “start again” with EnCore. Since then, we have secured long term agreements with OEMs as well as a range of airlines, and we have become a key player in the industry. We are striving to be not the biggest, but the best aircraft interiors manufacturer by building trust through repeatable, reliable performance.

EnCore Interiors is a full floor-to-floor design, manufacturing, and certification company, offering just about anything that passengers see on the interior of an aircraft. Whether retrofitting components that have undergone years of wear, or engineering products from the ground up, we provide solutions to fit every problem.

EnCore International is a multiprocess facility located in Mexico with a full complement of capabilities and new manufacturing technologies. We support the group and also supply integrated 777 and 787 interior components directly to Boeing.

And LIFT by EnCore, devoted to commercial aircraft seating.

The Development Center

Investing in an in-house test facility has allowed us to develop far faster, and with greater accuracy than our competitors.

• Our 16g Dynamic Test Sled gives us the ability to meet deadlines, optimize our design, reduce certification risks, and shorten the development cycle, without having to test through a third-party facility.

• Having a world-class prototyping center in-house offers our engineers the ability to build prototypes to iterate in their design work, and allows us to create customer prototypes so we can touch and feel a product before it goes to production.

• Other resources include a flammability lab and a cycle and abuse center. Onsite testing allows us to run R&D and certification tests on materials and components used in our products.

The LIFT and Boeing Collaboration

Since 2015, LIFT and Boeing have been collaborating to design seats that are optimized spatially, structurally, and aesthetically for the Boeing Sky Interior. The two companies sought to offer ease of maintenance and reliability, and also enhance the passenger experience in a way that only a specially engineered product could. And thus, Tourist Class Seating came to be.

Today, the result of this collaboration continues to harness the technical and operational expertise of the world’s largest aerospace company combined with the efficacy of a nimble and experienced seating supplier. Using the EnCore Group’s proven track record for on-time delivery, LIFT is setting the industry standard for comfort and reliability, while ensuring market predictability.

This venture was the first of its kind, and we are now creating the only seats optimized for 737 and 787 economy cabins.

Boeing 737 Tourist Class Seating

After an incredible launch Boeing approached us about a collaboration, and development of Tourist Class Seating for the 737 began. Starting from the ground up, we built a seat that has been ergonomically optimized and designed for maintainability and reliability, ensuring long term comfort and reduced cost of ownership.

The passenger experience is at the heart of our design process.

Inspired by modern day home furniture, every detail of our seat has been carefully crafted. We designed a product that inherently expresses ‘comfort’ – inviting you to sit and relax.

We have also focused on comfort by developingnew ergonomic characteristics for promotinghealthier posture.

Our seat environment is calm and restful,while housing a wealth of features within theseatback.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner Tourist Class Seating

With the rapid success of our first product, we were excited to expand Tourist Class Seating. An economy seat for the iconic 787 Dreamliner was next, so we set out to develop a specialized product – a seat that would meet the long-haul passenger’s unique needs, while continuing to deliver our standard of reliability, maintainability, and cost efficiency.

For inspiration, we looked to the comforts of home.

Our warm materials build an emotion of domestic comfort; and surfaces are soft and inviting, much like the inherent feeling of peace found in a cozy living room.

Each seat creates an individualized experience to make passengers feel secure, at-ease, and at home in their seat.

We looked to sports apparel for materials inspiration, and challenged ourselves to develop new weaving techniques that would enhance comfort. The result is a unique technology that boosts the fabric’s breathability without hindering durability.

We also designed a new method of recline that allows for relaxation into a cradling position. We conducted extensive ergonomic testing to ensure that our recline is optimized for maximum comfort.

Our seatback is in touch with people and their minute behavioral patterns. Like a bookshelf in a passenger’s living room, the stowage is designed for personal organization, making them feel at ease, and at home.
