Welcome to the Theatre!
We’re so excited to welcome you to the Indiana premiere of SIX. Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived – from Tudor queens to the Broadway stage, the SIX wives of Henry VIII tell us their side of the story in this new original musical. Winner of 23 awards, including the 2022 Tony Award for Best Original Score (Music and Lyrics), SIX remixes five hundred years of history into her-story!
Next month we’ll welcome Beetlejuice to Clowes Memorial Hall. This hilarious musical earned it’s stripes on Broadway in 2019 at the Winter Garden Theatre and was nominated for eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. We hope that you’ll join us along with Lydia, Adam, Barbara, and, of course, the Ghost with the Most, Beetlejuice, for another Indiana premiere.
Mark your calendars for March 12, when we announce the 2025/2026 season. It promises to bring you some of your most requested shows. This has been a record-breaking season and your continued support of touring Broadway is shining a spotlight on Indianapolis. Your feedback is important, and we appreciate all the suggestions we receive. Drop us a note anytime!
Enjoy the Show,

THE STORY OF SIX: LUCY MOSS AND TOBY MARLOW’S EMPOWERING BROADWAY MUSICAL
STORY BY Broadway.com Staff
Lucy Moss and Toby Marlow created SIX, a musical that celebrates the compelling stories of Henry VIII’s six wives while delving into themes of empowerment and representation in the theatre. The musical opens with the iconic refrain: “Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived.” Through this catchy hook, the wives take the mic to reclaim their identities from the shadow of their infamous spouse, remixing five hundred years of historical heartbreak into an exuberant celebration of 21st-century girl power. The all-female cast is backed by an equally dynamic all-female band, the “Ladies in Waiting,” further enhancing the show’s infectious energy and contemporary flair.
As SIX developed, Moss reflected on its impact on audiences. “It’s so humbling and inspiring really to see so many people getting excited and getting involved,” she said. “Our amazing queendom is particularly good about getting creative. It feels so wonderful to have made something that inspires people.” This sense of community and creativity is a vital part of the production, fostering an environment where diverse voices can be heard and celebrated.

Marlow expressed deep pride in the project, stating, “It’s unbelievable. I can’t even begin to put into words how proud I am. To go from those conversations to literally making history on Broadway is pretty cool.” This journey from initial discussions to a fully realized production illustrates the power of their friendship and collaboration. Marlow made history as the first nonbinary person to win a Tony Award for Original Score, highlighting the significance of this achievement within the context of the theatre industry and its ongoing evolution toward inclusivity.
The mission behind SIX is clear: to amplify voices that are often overlooked in traditional narratives. “We wrote these songs because we wanted to give a funny voice to women and nonbinary people who are our friends, and it’s just so exciting to recognize them,” Moss said, emphasizing their commitment to representation. The musical not only entertains but also encourages audiences to engage with history in a meaningful way, prompting reflection on how stories are told and whose voices are included.
With SIX, Moss and Marlow invite audiences to celebrate history in a fresh and engaging manner—full of laughter, music, and creativity. Each song is a modern anthem that allows the wives to express their individuality, from the fierce determination of Anne Boleyn to the resilient spirit of Catherine Parr. The choreography and melodies resonate with audiences, making the show not just a retelling of history, but a powerful commentary on female empowerment and agency. Their work showcases the joy of blending history with pop culture. By merging theatrical storytelling with contemporary music styles, SIX transcends the traditional boundaries of musical theatre, inviting a new generation to engage with the stories of these historical figures. Ultimately, SIX is not just a musical; it is a celebration of resilience, identity and the vibrant spirit of women. By giving these historical figures a modern voice, the production invites audiences to engage with their stories in a fresh and entertaining way. This approach not only entertains but also sparks conversations about the importance of diverse narratives in theatre, making it a significant addition to the contemporary musical landscape.

HOW COMPOSER-LYRICIST EDDIE PERFECT FOUND
THE VOICE FOR BEETLEJUICE
The Australian artist describes his songwriting process for the hit musical.
STORY
BY Caitlin Huston with a new introduction by Ruthie Fierberg
Beetlejuice first opened on Broadway on April 25, 2019, and has been raising hell ever since. Between a return Broadway engagement when theatres reopened after the shutdown and a North American tour, Beetlejuice has been giving audiences the fright of their lives—and a whole lot of laughs.
The original Broadway incarnation earned eight Tony Award nominations, including one for Best Score with music and lyrics by Australian writer-composer-performer Eddie Perfect. Perfect spoke with Broadway News about writing for his undead title character, his audition process to write the musical and more.
Broadway News: How did you approach creating songs for the character of Beetlejuice?
Eddie Perfect: The thing that I wanted from Beetlejuice was surprise and energy, and that was because by the time I came on to the project, Scott [Brown] and Anthony [King], our book writers, had already been developing a script for about three years. On the page, Beetlejuice was so surprising. He was a very dark, kind of demented, but extremely

funny version of the Genie in Aladdin. The thing that cracked it open for me was that he was described in the script as being, not one person, but a vessel for millions of multiple personalities. So I was like, “What if I wrote a different genre of music for every one of those personalities?” The first song I wrote for Beetlejuice was a song called “The Whole Being Dead Thing.” That opens with ska and zydeco and then goes into ukulele banjo folk. And then there’s seven counts of death metal, then back into ukulele folk, and then big band swing and kind of a Jamaican dancehall.
Did you have to audition to get the job?
Oh yeah. I mean nobody knew who I was, and I’d been coming to New York for about 18 months just trying to get my name on that great big writer list in the sky.
For Beetlejuice or just in general?
For anything. I just wanted to write in New York. Every six months I’d head to New York, see stuff and take meetings, but it didn’t really seem to be adding up to anything or going anywhere.
But I heard that Beetlejuice was kicking around, and they didn’t have a composer-lyricist yet. So I asked my agent if I could pitch on it. He asked the Beetlejuice producers and they said no. But I said, “What if I wrote them two songs for free?” They sent me the script, and I just turned myself inside out writing those songs. It was Lydia’s song “Dead Mom,” Beetlejuice’s song, “The Whole Being Dead Thing,” and then I woke up in the middle of the night with an idea for an opening number called “Death’s Not Great,” [which was later cut during a workshop]. I waited, and I didn’t expect to get the job at all.

Mary, born February 18, 1516 (later Queen Mary I).
Catherine also had two other children who died as infants, three stillborn children, and several miscarriages.
Religion, sewing, dancing, a bit more religion.
Probably a type of cancer.
Her refusal to accept that her marriage was invalid; her faith; her dramatic speech to Henry when he had her brought to court to seek the annulment of their marriage.
While Henry fought in France in 1513, Catherine was regent during the Battle of Flodden; when James IV of Scotland was killed in the battle, Catherine wanted to send his body to Henry as a present.

Elizabeth, born September 7, 1533 (later Queen Elizabeth I). Anne also had at least two miscarriages.
Headlessness; bringing about England’s break with the Pope; having a sixth fingernail.
Because she was fluent in French, Anne would have acted as a translator during the visit of Emperor Charles V to court in 1522.
Lily Allen and Avril Lavigne.

Staying alive.
Anna visited Katherine Howard once she became queen and bowed down to her.
Probably cancer.
Being chosen from her portrait and then rejected when Henry met her.
When Henry first met Anna of Cleves, he disguised himself, possibly imagining some sort of a romantic reaction. According to a witness, when Henry kissed Anna, she turned away coldly from the hideous stranger molesting her. The witness, Lord Russell, observed that he “never saw His Highness so marvelously astonished.”

Being completely used (and abused) by those with power over her.
From her arrest on November 8, 1541 until her execution three months later, Katherine stayed under house arrest at Syon House; in late January of 1542, an act was passed in Parliament that rendered it treason for a woman to become the king’s wife without “plain declaration before of her unchaste life,” meaning Henry could have her killed.
