


STAR Award recipients show extraordinary dedication and ability. Recipients have participated in at least eight Encore Stage & Studio productions: two onstage, two backstage on tech crew, one front of house crew, and three in any capacity.
Charlotte Andress (Rose Ensemble) is a seventh grader at Gunston Middle School and is thrilled to be back with Encore! This is her third production, after appearing in Narnia and Frozen Jr. She also had a role in her school’s production of Once on This Island. Her other hobbies include swimming, organizing canine birthday parties, and baking.
Clara-Grace Atkins (Crew) is an eighth grader at Swanson Middle School. She hopes you enjoy the show!
Caitlan Beggs (Crew) is a ninth grader at The Field School. This is her second Encore production. Outside of participating as a crew member, Caitlan enjoys spending her time horseback riding and working on digital photography (specializing in animal photography).
Teddy Burwell (Monsieur D'Arque, Village Ensemble) is a fifth grader at St. Albans School. He is excited to be performing in his first Encore production and hopes you enjoy the show.
Ruby Carlon (Sillie #1) is a tenth grader at West Springfield High School and is thrilled to be in her first Encore production! She has loved theater for as long as she can remember and has been in many shows, including The Sound of Music and The Little Mermaid. Outside of theatre, she enjoys reading, singing, and baking. She would like to thank her parents for driving her out to rehearsals every week, and she hopes you enjoy the show!
Riley Dennis (Lumiere) is a junior at Washington-Liberty High School and is excited to be acting again in one of his favorite shows. He hopes you enjoy this tale as old as time!
Oliver DiGeronimo (Crew) is a seventh grader at Glasgow Middle School. This is his first Encore production and experience doing theatre. Oliver loves working with wood and using his creativity through drawing, animation, and vlogging. You can always find Oliver outside— working on his garden or building something with one of his many tools!
Sisi Doucet (Chip) is a fourth grader at St. Thomas More Cathedral School, where she plays soccer and sings in the choir. She's excited to be participating in her first Encore show!
Jacob Fridman (Crew) is a ninth grader at Walt Whitman High School. He hopes you enjoy the show!
Cadence Gates (Belle) is a senior at Colgan High School in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts program. She plans to attend college in the fall as a musical theatre major. This is her first Encore show, and she is so excited to be a part of the Encore family.

Noah Golden (LeFou) is a seventh grader at H-B Woodlawn Secondary Program. This is his fourth show with Encore. Previously, he was in CSI (Wallace), Riley O'Brian and the Lost Leprechaun (Clixie), and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (children's choir). Outside of theatre, Noah enjoys roller coasters, piano, movies, reading, writing, doodling, and hanging out with his friends. He hopes you enjoy the show!
Annika Haney (Crew) is a seventh grader at Thomas Jefferson Middle School and is thrilled to be participating in her fifth Encore production. Previous roles she has played include Chef Lapin in Voyager's Compass, Sandy in Annie Jr., and Cheese-Thief Ben in Treasure Island. When not on stage, she likes to sing in the Arlington Children's Chorus and draw. She hopes you enjoy the show!
Katie Hearne (Rose Ensemble) is a seventh grader at St. Ann’s and is excited to be taking part in her seventh Encore production! When not at rehearsal, you will find her reading, baking, hanging out with friends, or playing with her dog, Honey. She loves being a part of the Encore family and hopes you enjoy the show!
Will Hemmens (Beast) is a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. He is happy to be back with the Encore family, having first appeared on stage in 2017 in A Little Princess. He joined the summer casts of Seussical and Newsies, was part of the crew for Jingle ARRGH the Way, then returned to the stage for Encore’s recent productions of The Hobbit and Annie Jr. At Glasgow Middle School, he performed in Unplugged, Lucky Hudson and the 12th Street Crew, and The Wizard of Oz. At his high school, before the pandemic, he was cast in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and Newsies. Will plays the flute, enjoys Super Smash Bros tournaments, and collects Pokémon cards.
Reagan Holland (Mrs. Potts) is a sophomore at Langley High School. She has been acting since she was eight years old, and there’s hardly anything she loves more than being on stage. Some of her favorite roles include Puck (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Amy March (Little Women), Gollum (The Hobbit), Riley O’Brien (Riley O'Brien and the Lost Leprechaun), and Grace Farrell (Annie Jr.). She most recently appeared in Encore’s production of Treasure Island. She is so excited to be performing in her nineteenth stage production and seventh show with Encore! When she’s not on stage, you can find her reading a good book, playing cello in her school orchestra, volunteering at Encore camps and church, scribbling down her latest novel idea, tap dancing, hanging out with family and friends, or belting show tunes around the house. She hopes you enjoy this “tale as old as time”!

Ryan Hutt (Maurice) is a seventh grader at Hardy Middle School and is thrilled to be in his third production with Encore! Other Encore shows he's been a part of include: Enchanted Bookshop Christmas (Ebenezer Scrooge) and Annie Jr. (President Roosevelt, Chauffeur). In his spare time, Ryan likes to ride roller coasters, bake, and play soccer.
Juliette Kane (Gaston) is a ninth grader at Washington-Liberty High School and is excited to be part of her eighth Encore production. She most recently appeared as Sasha in her school's The Election, as a starlet in Annie Jr., and as Little Match Girl in Enchanted Bookshop Christmas.
Kira Kettler (Crew) is a freshman at Washington-Liberty High School. This is her tenth production with Encore, recently being crew for A Fairy Tale Christmas Carol, cast for Treasure Island (Long John Silver), and crew for Annie Jr. (sound). She hopes you love the show!

Katherine Mackall (Babette) is a freshman at the McLean School of Maryland and is excited to be a part of this Encore production. Previously, Katherine performed in Encore's Stage Door production of Bedlam and Breakfast (Sylvia Belmont), The Big Bad Musical (Little Miss Muffet), and Frozen Jr. (Ensemble). Her other credits include Disney's Newsies (Nun/Bowery Beauty) and Macbeth (Lady Macbeth). In her free time, Katherine enjoys sewing, dancing, and singing. She hopes you enjoy the show!
Julia Markowitz (Crew) is a sophomore at Yorktown High School, where she plays softball and enjoys art. She has been involved in Encore productions since the fifteenth Century, back when the group was called “Ye Olde Troupe of Spectacle and Folly.” This is her fourth Encore show.

Sarah McBurney (Madame de la Grande Bouche) is a junior at Alexandria City High School and is thrilled to be in this production! This is Sarah’s seventeenth production with Encore. Her most recent shows have included Annie Jr. (Miss Hannigan) and The Hobbit (Bilbo Baggins). At school, Sarah has served as both Director and Technical Director for the daily morning announcements show, and in her free time, she enjoys doing arts and crafts. She hopes you love the show!
Erin McClintock (Rose Ensemble) is a proud fourth grader at Columbia Elementary School who is making her theatre debut in this production of Beauty and the Beast Jr. She is a chorister in the
Royal School of Church Music program at St. Alban’s Church and also plays the cello. In her spare time, Erin enjoys tumbling, cheering, singing, and spending time with cats.
Myla McNair (Villager #1, Castle Ensemble) is an eighth grader at Williamsburg Middle School. This is her first Encore musical. She has acted in many productions outside of Encore, including The Addams Family Jr. (Uncle Fester), Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. (Scuttle), the Washington Revels' Christmas and May shows, and more. In addition to singing and acting, Myla loves to bake and read.
Molly Payne (Sillie #2) is a seventh grader at George Washington Middle School and is excited to be in her fifth show with Encore (mainstage, Encore Cares, and Stage Door)! She also loves singing and playing volleyball. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Loic Razanakoto (Cogsworth) plays the character otherwise known as unnecessarily stressed piece of wood with feet that makes alarmingly bad jokes. Loic is a ninth grader at WashingtonLiberty High School. Some of his many talents include playing the piano and his odd voice range (source: his sister) He is very excited to be participating in his third Encore production! He has previously appeared as a man who had a thing against dogs and a “nice guy” turned pirate. He hopes this show helps you to “unwind for a change” and that you enjoy being human.
Liam Riedelbach-Armer (Villager #3, Castle Ensemble) is an eighth grader at Gunston Middle School. This is his second Encore production. Last year, he was a member of the cast in his school's production of Pippin. Outside of acting, he enjoys archery, skiing, biking, and music.
Maddy Sadler (Crew) is a ninth grader at The Potomac School. She is thrilled to be back at Encore for her tenth production and fifth on crew! Most recently, Maddy performed in Treasure Island (Jemma) and stage managed the Encore Cares production of The Rainbow Fish. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Lucy Thiede (Rose Ensemble) is thrilled to be making her Encore theatre debut in Beauty and the Beast Jr. Her prior performances include Newsies (The Arlington Players), Hamilton Hip Hop Ensemble (Alexandria Children’s Theatre) and The Greatest Showman (Dance with Miss Rachel). Lucy is a born New Yorker and now resides in Virginia with her family.
Izzy Till (Crew) is a seventh grader at Gunston Middle School, and this is their first Encore production. While they have done camps with Encore before, this is their first time working on crew. Izzy does gymnastics and loves writing and singing. They hope you enjoy the show!
Spencer Tilock (Villager #2, Castle Ensemble) is a sixth grader at Glasgow Middle School and is happy to be participating in his fifth Encore production! He has a passion for theatre and also enjoys playing saxophone in his school band. Spencer most recently appeared as Mr. Arrow in Encore’s Treasure Island. He is also proud to have been a part of Encore’s Riley O’Brien and the Lost Leprechaun and two Encore Cares productions (written by his oldest brother, Xander), where he played Seven in Voyager’s Compass and Cash in A Winter Star. Alex Valencic (Baker, Village Ensemble) is a ninth grader at McLean High School. He has been attending summer camps and then Stage Door with Encore since he was five years old. Alex previously starred as Edmond in Encore's musical Narnia, and this is his second production as a part of the cast. He has done crew and front of house for two other Encore productions. He loves the Encore community. Outside of Encore, he loves to play tennis and dive.
Katarina Villasmil (Narrator #3) is an eighth grader at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School. She is very excited to be taking part in her first Encore production! Katarina enjoys singing, reading, and playing volleyball. She has had an interest in acting from a young age. She has participated in Imagination Stage summer camp productions of Annie (Ms. Hannigan), Aristocats (Lafayette), and Lion King (Nala) and most recently appeared as the drum major in her school's production of High School Musical. Leo Walsh (Bookkeeper, Village Ensemble) is a fourth grader at Nottingham Elementary School and is so excited to be making his Encore production debut. He has been participating in community theatre camps and classes with Encore and ETC for over half his life! Annabelle Yeh (Rose Ensemble) is a sixth grader at Aquinas Montessori School. She loves to sing and dance and played Ariel in her school's production of The Little Mermaid Jr. This is her first time participating in an Encore production, but she has previously attended two Encore summer camps. When she isn’t singing, Annabelle likes to read, bake, play soccer, and rock climb.

Emily "EJ" Jonas (Director) is a local performer, intimacy director, and director from Alexandria, VA. She is the arts coordinator/drama director at Burgundy Farm Country Day School. EJ is excited to be making her Encore Stage & Studio debut with this everlasting favorite story of Beauty and The Beast Jr. Most recently, EJ directed Disney’s NEWSIES with The Arlington Players in the Fall and Bright Star with The Little Theatre of Alexandria, last winter. EJ holds an M.F.A. from Emerson College where she completed her degree in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre. Thank you to all of the cast, crew, Encore staff, parents, producers, and more for all of their hard work on this magical production. Now, light up the candelabras and enjoy the show!
Daniel J. Smith (Music Director) is a native of North Carolina. He is a graduate of George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia with a Master of Music in Vocal Performance. He is an alumnus of Winston-Salem State University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Business. As a featured soloist, Smith appeared with the Winston-Salem State University Choir; the Ben Holt Memorial Branch of the National Association of Negro Musicians; the World Federation of Friends of Museums; and in I Am My Ancestors, a concert sponsored by I Am Confidence.
Madeline Dunn (Choreographer) is a performer, choreographer, and dance instructor with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from George Mason University. She has performed in professional theatre, theme park, and cruise line productions as well as several developmental workshops, cabarets, and social media-based commercials. She has been teaching dance for over ten years to ages two through eighteen.
Debra Leonard (Costume Designer & Build, Make-up Designer) is designing her 21st season with Encore Stage & Studio. She has designed costumes for many area theatres and film companies, with over 100 productions to her credit. Debra has also designed for American University, Prince George’s Community College, and Allentown College in PA. Additionally, she works as a Special Education teacher with Prince George’s County. Debra is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Kalamazoo College, with her graduate degree from American University.
Kristen Jepperson (Technical Director, Set Design & Build) is a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts, with a BFA in Harp Performance. Since graduation she has toured nationally as a member of the New Christy Minstrels and with Ragtime, the Musical (Emma Goldman). Theatrical credits include: Daisy, The Adding Machine, Studio Theater; Reno, Anything Goes, Olney Theater; Agnes Gooch, Mame, Toby’s of Columbia; Reverend Mother Mary Regina, Nunsense, Toby’s Baltimore. Having gotten her start in children's theatre as a child, working with Encore “on the other side of the table” makes a nice circle.
Gary Hauptman (Lighting Director) has been Encore’s resident lighting designer since 2012. His first experiences with lighting were shortly after high school, running spots for community ice shows and for an AC Spark Plug sales convention. Design credits include dance companies, rock bands, cabarets, fashion shows, and magicians. And locally, for Teatro de la Luna, Unexpected Stage, Pinky Swear Productions, The Arlington Players, Port City Players, Requiebros, and Hexagon. Gary contends that the most important preparation for working with Encore’s talented young performers and technicians was his time as a counselor at Michigan’s Camp Tamarack.
Kevin A. Curry (Sound Consultant) is currently retired from The Boeing Company. Over the last 40+ years, Kevin has worked on over 350 productions for both professional and community theaters. In that time, he has had 10 Alliance of Community Theater nominations for Best Lighting, Set Design, or Special Effects. He has won four times, most recently in 2003 for Springfield Community Theatre’s production of Godspell, for which he also earned a nomination for Best Lighting from WATCH.
Bella White (Stage Manager) is a junior at H-B Woodlawn. She hopes you enjoy the show!
Nyla Elder (Student Front of House Manager) is a tenth grader at Washington-Liberty High School. She hopes you enjoy the show!
Jack Ploetz (Backstage Crew) is a senior at Arlington Tech High School. Jack's previous roles at Encore include stage manager for Frozen Jr and The Hobbit, technical director for A Winter Star and Voyager’s Compass, and crew for many other shows. Outside of theatre he is a part of the Arlington Tech robotics team, and enjoys rock climbing, biking, and skiing.
Sara Strehle Duke (Executive Director) has led Northern Virginia’s largest, award-winning children’s theatre since 2010. She was recognized as one of Leadership Center for Excellence's 40 Under 40 in 2015. Previously, she worked for the Arden Theatre Company in Philadelphia and Round House Theatre in Bethesda. She is a Board member for Embracing Arlington Arts, a member of Leadership Arlington, Class of 2014, and a dedicated volunteer with several youth serving organizations. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the College of William & Mary.
Madaline Langston (Programs Director) has been with Encore Stage & Studio’s It’s Elementary Program for over a decade and is currently Education Programs Director. Madaline is a graduate of the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts Advance Theatre program in Washington DC. She began developing her improvisation and classical skills performing at the Maryland Renaissance Festival. Madaline later joined the Shakespeare Theatre Company under the Artistic Direction of Michael Kahn, followed by two National tours with the John F. Kennedy Center’s programs for children. As a member of the Screen Actors Guild, American Federation Television Radio Artists, and Actors Equity, Madaline has worked on films, industrials, regional and national commercials.
Aileen Pangan Christian (Director of Marketing and Design) is delighted to be in her eleventh season with Encore. She taught dance at Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center in Newport News, VA, and was involved in marketing for BalletNova Center for Dance. Aileen graduated from Leadership Arlington’s Young Professional Program and is an alum of Christopher Newport University. She has worked on films including Step Up 2, directed by Jon M. Chu, director of Crazy Rich Asians. Aileen and her husband welcomed their daughter in August 2020 and their son in January 2022.
Maureen Bouda (Business Manager) joined the Encore team in 2020. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant with extensive public accounting experience including several nonprofit clients. After her time in public accounting, she worked in London, UK for a large American multinational company focusing on financial statement consolidation, Sarbanes-Oxley internal controls and process improvements. At Encore, Maureen works closely with our Board of Directors andFinance Committee to ensure accurate financial records and organizational forecasting. Maureen has a strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and supports the organization on finance related matters.
Kelley O’Dell (Development Director) joined Encore in late 2019 to coordinate individual, corporate, and foundation giving after prior work in nonprofit organizations and government agencies. She holds a Master of Public Administration degree with a concentration in nonprofit management from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.
Liv Wilson (Programs Coordinator) is a dramaturg, playwright, librettist, and theatremaker based out of Washington, D.C. Their work has been seen at The Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center, Boise State University, The University of Texas at El Paso, The College of William & Mary and at The Premiere Theatre Playwriting Competition. Liv is the recipient of the Howard Scammon Prize for Drama and the Martin Jurow Theatre Arts Award for artistic excellence. She has worked as the dramaturg for Ford's Theatre, Cadence Theatre Company's Sitelines BLM series, and several independent works developed by artists across the country, including two new musicals at The Tank. Liv received their Bachelor's degree in History from The College of William and Mary in 2021 and is a recent National Theatre Institute alum.
Cleo Potter they/she (Production Coordinator) is excited to join the Encore Stage and Studio team, as the new Production Coordinator. Cleo grew up in the Alexandria and Arlington area and attended the College of Wooster, Ohio, majoring in Theatre and Dance. They specialized in stage management and lighting. They are excited to back in Arlington and getting involved with theatre in their hometown. Outside of theatre Cleo enjoys taking their dog, Lil, on walks around Arlington’s parks and trails.
Matthew Cibak (Arts Apprentice) is a 2019 magna cum laude and Highlander Honors College graduate of Radford University, with a Bachelor of Science in Theatre. As an actor, he has performed in a number of productions including The Wild Party at Greenbelt Arts Center, Jack and Jill and the Wishing Well at Stagecoach Theater Co. and The Importance of Being Earnest at his alma mater, just to name a few. He is more than excited to be working as an Apprentice at Encore!
Brielle Perry (Arts Apprentice) graduated from William & Mary, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature and a minor in creative writing. She led William & Mary’s Writing Resources Center as a Student Administrator and interned at an independent bookshop in Bath, England while completing a semester abroad. She also facilitated improvisational theatre workshops for elementary and secondary-aged students at the York County School of the Arts, mentored residents of the Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center by developing meaningful activities and poetry programming, and served as a summer camp counselor at Camp Highroad Christian Adventure Camp. She has traveled to over fifteen countries and has a passion for spreading the joy and power of language and art with others everywhere.
Amanda Willis (Arts Apprentice) is a recent Alumnus of James Madison University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre Performance and Theatre Education. She is a Teaching Artist and Actress who leads with empathy, collaboration, team building, and compassion. Being born and raised just outside of Boston, Amanda is beyond excited to begin her journey as an artist in the DC theatre community. Amanda believes that theatre has the capacity to impact the lives of many and create real world change, and it all starts with the youth.
