2020 Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., Canceled Congrats Youth Tour Winners

The National Rural Electric Cooperative

Association (NRECA) has canceled all in person programs hosted by NRECA through June 24, 2020, due to the COVID19 coronavirus public health crisis. This includes the 2020 Youth Tour. NRECA continues to monitor the public health crisis and based on health risks, local, state, and national stay at home orders and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, NRECA has determined it is in the best interest of all members and families to avoid the risk of coming down with the virus.

Since many have prepared and planned for this incredible trip months in advance, this announcement may be disappointing to you as it is to all of us, but the safety and the well-being of our delegates and all those participating in this program is what matters most to the New Mexico Rural Electric Cooperative Association and NRECA. Mora-San Miguel Electric would like to recognize and congratulate Shanay Casados and Ava Martinez, the two delegates selected for the 2020 Youth Tour.

The board of trustees will consider in the near future adopting a Resolution declaring a Health Emergency within its service territory. Should this be approved, the board of trustees and general manager will then be authorized to act on matters to best deal with day-to-day operations to protect employees, members/consumers while complying with Federal, State, and Local Health Emergency Orders, and it’s Collecting Bargaining Agreement.

COVID-19 Corona Virus: MSMEC Response Measures Energy Efficiency

Tip of the Month When the weather is nice, put your grill to use! During summer months, cooking outdoors is a great way to save energy and eliminate unwanted heat from cooking indoors.

4 COMMON CULPRITS OF ELECTRICAL FIRES

Outdated wiring and overloaded circuits are the most common causes of electrical fires. Check the following areas of your home to ensure your home’s electrical safety is up to par.

National Lineman Appreciation Day Celebrated at MSMEC on April 8th

Thank you linemen for the vital role you play in helping provide our members with safe, reliable, affordable electricity.

Electrical outlets: Faulty electrical outlets are a leading cause of home fires. As outlets age, so do the wires behind them that you can’t see. Any loose, damaged or warm-to-the-touch outlets should be repaired or replaced.

2.

Electrical wiring: Outdated wiring is another common cause of electrical fires. Frequently tripped breakers, flickering lights and burning smells are clear warning signs. If your home is more than 20 years old, it may not be able to handle today’s increased power load. If you suspect your home’s wiring is outdated, leave this one to the pros and contact a qualified electrician.

3.

Overloaded cords and outlets: Extension cords are not permanent solutions. If your big-screen TV, home theater system and other electronics are plugged into one extension cord, it’s time to call an electrician and install additional outlets.

Old appliances: Older appliances are more likely to have loose or damaged wiring, which means they’re more likely to catch fire. Check older appliances for damage and determine if it’s time to upgrade or replace. Also check to ensure you’re using appliance-grade outlets. A qualified electrician can help with installation.
