Francisco Hung (Canton, Republic of China, 1937 - 2001) (Lei Kium (Encouragement to power) in Chinese) was a painter, maximum representative of abstract expressionism in Venezuela. He developed his work since the early 60s. He began his studies at the Julio Arraga School of Art in Maracaibo, then continued in Caracas at the Cristóbal Rojas School of Plastic Arts. From an early age he began to win Awards and Recognitions, having exhibited his work in places such as the Sao Paulo Biennial, Paris Biennial, UN Headquarters, the National Art Gallery of Venezuela, Maracaibo Fine Arts Center, among others. In 1958, he participated in an arts hall where he won the first prize and a scholarship to study at the School of Fine Arts in Paris, France. Travel through several countries in Europe completing your training. He returns to Venezuela in 1962, year where he meets his wife Maite Mandaluniz in the cultural environment of "40 degrees in the shade" (multidisciplinary cultural movement that took place in the city of Maracaibo). He extends his participation in different art salons throughout Venezuela, obtaining the Otero Vizcarrondo Award from the Venezuelan Official Art Salon in Caracas. As well as the first prize of the Salón D'Empaire in Maracaibo and Honorary Mention in the 3rd Biennial of Paris, France in 1963. The following year he won the awards: Armando Reverón and Rome of the Venezuelan Official Art Salon in Caracas; and wins the First Prize of the Salon of Young Artists at the Museum of Fine Arts of Caracas. Flying Machines They are works made at the beginning of the 1960s, first in Paris and then in Maracaibo, Venezuela. With this series Hung had access to his expanding calligraphic universe, almost monochromatic, they are resolved as a contrast of black forms on red backgrounds, uniform, intense or attenuated with sensitized textures in which the form constitutes a fabric of signs of mobile appearance, in the form of rotating structures inscribed in space by means of bars that when closed to form circles in the form of cogs or heads of mills, give an idea of strange devices suspended in space. Hence the name of Flying Machines for this series.

Floating materials A study could be made of the influence that the first rocket launches had on extraterrestrial space on a genre of spatial painting that, after the cosmonautic and astronautic essays undertaken by the Russians and North Americans, began to spread over many places of the planet. It could even be shown that the course of art, at least in its material-form relation, has changed substantially since then. Hung is the most eloquent and qualitatively speaking with what is counted in Venezuela, to explain this relationship that occurred especially in the gestural painting, within the framework of a conception that, exploring the space with an automatic technique, addressed the large formats to metaphorically reproduce the impact of the astronautics experiments, whose image, in the case of Hung, is abruptly cut off by the edges of the support, as if the work were the fragment of an event that extends beyond the painting, and from which we only saw in this one a central part.

year he obtained the National Prize for Venezuelan Art Painting and obtained for the 1st time the Arturo Michelena Salon Award, in the city of Valencia, Edo Carabobo. Starting the decade of the '70, he won the Arturo Michelena Salon Award for the second time. And in 1971 he set up residence with his family, for a year in New York City, continuing his research and painting. Upon returning to Venezuela after some research trips to several countries, he confirms that the best light to carry out his works was that of Maracaibo, his city. In the decade of the '80 it continues obtaining prizes, like the First Prize of Drawing of the Living room of the West (1981) in the Merida state. The First Prize of the Barquisimeto Biennial (1982) Lara state. For the third time he was awarded the First Prize Arturo Michelena Hall (1986, Valencia Carabobo State). That same year he was invited by the Commission of the Presidential Tour to travel around Asia as a representative of the Venezuelan Culture. In 1988 the construction of his Study / Workshop culminates as a space destined to the production, conservation and exhibition of his work. At the end of the decade, he made a research trip taking as a starting point the cities of San Francisco and Hawaii (United States), continuing through Beijing and Guangzhou (China), then Bombai (India), Singapore, Paris (France), Madrid ( Spain) returning to the city of Caracas in Venezuela. Through an agreement between the French Alliance and the Government of Venezuela, he travels to Paris (France) residing for several months working on a series of works. Make short trips through France and Greece. In 1992 he returned permanently to Maracaibo, where he made multiple exhibitions throughout Venezuela. His passion for drawing throughout his life allowed him to leave a vast legacy of portraits of family environment and everyday life, combining it with his gestural works.

The Figuration He must be considered an abstract-expressionist painter and there are many reasons to affirm it. However, to a large extent he has also done extensive figurative work, over the years, although this aspect of his work has scarcely been shown in exhibitions and events. The figurative tendency was reinitiated in his work with a series of 1971 self-portraits. A gesture-based work in which the faces that the artist provides emerge from an incisive plot of signs that accuses more the intention to characterize the subject psychologically than to describe it in a realistic. Hung continued systematically to do the figurative work, either to self-portray, or to take care of the people of his environment and especially of the family universe, the drawing represents a condensed vision of the space of this nucleus, revealed all this through an intimist style enormously syntopic and diverse in motivations, techniques and materials on varied supports of paper or cloth.

Hung has made figuration throughout his career, from the moment he entered to study at the art school. Which means that his drawing work has been uninterrupted within that intimate style, hybrid of drawing and painting and, in any case, resolved with great freedom.

Francisco Hung Foundation In his honor was created the Foundation that bears his name, whose main objective is everything concerning the disclosure in all its forms of the life, work and thought of the teacher Francisco Hung. As well as the conservation, preservation and certification of the works. An indispensable cornerstone of this institutional foundation, provides the relevant pedagogical facet, that is, also aims to organize courses, conferences, seminars, conferences, colloquia, workshops, forums, and any other activity aimed at education through art and development of aesthetic sensitivity. The Foundation consecrates its meaning and reason of being, in the fact of promoting the development and diffusion of contemporary art in all its expressions, emphasizing the promotion of the vocation of emerging artists. From such love and family devotion, his three children have ruled the creation of this Foundation. All of us who were lucky enough to share and enjoy different experiences with the "Chinese" teacher, are in the very emotional commitment to support, support and preserve this cognitive platform that, according to its institutional guidelines, is sustained in terms that, beyond the filial love and the principle of friendship, transcends the plane of civil duty to recognize, appreciate and value the life and work of personalities such as Francisco Hung.

The figuration was gaining ground in the work of Hung to the point that its production was made from now on. On the eve of the celebration of the 229th anniversary of the National Day of France "La Féte Nationale", the French Embassy in Venezuela, through the French Alliance, has organized a wonderful exhibition that brings together an important group of works of art masters universal, under an exquisite and specialized team selection Enatem Llc. Spectators and collectors will be able to enjoy a pleasant aesthetic experience with emphasis on representative works of geometric abstraction, constructive art and other trends of modern art, which aims to delve into the knowledge of artists of great notoriety and universal projection , such as: Víctor Vasarely (1908-1997), the history of art considers him as the father of Op-art; Joan Miró (1893-1983), is one of the greatest representatives of Surrealism, in his works he reflects his interest in the subconscious, in the "infantile", in the culture and traditions of his native Catalonia; Alejandro Otero (1921-1990), important Venezuelan painter and sculptor, exponent of abstract and kinetic art, represented in large national and international art collections; Mateo Manaure (1926-2018), master of abstractionism, distinguished by his emblematic works in the University City of Caracas and large-scale public projects; Carlos Cruz-Diez (1923), maximum representative of the kinetic art worldwide, his research has contributed to the art a new form of knowledge about the phenomenon of color, considerably expanding his perceptive universe; Francisco Narváez (1905-1982), an important Venezuelan sculptor, is characterized by a strong ethnic component, expressed in a language of his own synthesis with Negroid and indigenous reminiscences; Rafael Bogarín (1946), a constructive artist who conscientiously manages forms and resources as part of an autonomous language; Luis Chacón (1927-2010), extraordinary master engraver who applied in his engravings the concept of unique work, as if it were paintings avoiding repetition, arrives at three-dimensionality with constructive approaches; Esteban Castillo (1941), artist who has developed in a virtuous manner an extensive constructivist work, based on color and geometry; Darío Pérez-Flores (1936), in his works creates a subtle optical vibration that attracts the viewer towards its center, stimulated by a visual and mysterious emotion; Francisco Hung (1937-2001), consecrated painter, in his works the signs and gestures constitute his plastic language, the force of color fills the void with lines; Hugo Arapé (1942), graphic artist of profuse category, has developed a work with a great poetic charge; Antonio Pérez-Melero, an artist with outstanding skills in art, uses fundamentally the interaction of color, light and form in his work; Manuel Finol (1934), a Venezuelan painter with a long career, presents works from a stage of exploration on geometric abstraction; Gabriel Marcos (1938), artist interested in the constructive plan, highlighting the value of pure colors; Rubén Vásquez (1955), an artist who has developed a brilliant career in the arts, taking on expressive abstraction as his own language; Oswaldo Vigas (1926-2014); Venezuelan artist, his work is an original synthesis between the cultural roots of the Latin American continent and the plastic currents of modernity. Jean Cocteau said: "When a work seems ahead of its time, it's just that time is behind the work." Undoubtedly, art acts as a catalyst of daydreams and utopias, at the same time it makes us problems and opens enigmas. Build the collective memory of societies and project a future of changes. The French Alliance presented the exhibition Grand Masters that was framed in the programation of the Week of France 2018. The opening was in charge of Romain Nadal, Ambassador of France; François Dumiot, General Director of the French Alliance; and the Collector Claudio Giummarra. The exhibition, which was held at the headquarters of the French Alliance of La Castellana, brought together works by Víctor Vasarely, Joan Miró, Alejandro Otero, Mateo Manaure, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Francisco Narváez, Rafael Bogarín and other consecrated Artist. In this way, the French Alliance continues its action of projecting culture and being a bridge between France and Venezuela.

FRANCISCO HUNG 1937-2001 Floating materials: A study could be made of the influence that the first rocket launches had on extraterrestrial space on a genre of spatial painting that, after the cosmonautic and astronautic essays undertaken by the Russians and North Americans, began to spread over many places of the planet. It could even be shown that the course of art, at least in its material-form relation, has changed substantially since then.Hung is the most eloquent and qualitatively speaking with what is counted in Venezuela, to explain this relationship that occurred especially in the gestural painting, within the framework of a conception that, exploring the space with an automatic technique, addressed the large formats to metaphorically reproduce the impact of the astronautics experiments, whose image, in the case of Hung, is abruptly cut off by the edges of the support, as if the work were the fragment of an event that extends beyond the painting, and from which we only saw in this one a central part.
