His great concern for art would distract him from formal education, however, it was at the elementary school where he met teacher Loreto, who gave him a lot of support. She would dedicate both a poem and a work she never concluded.

INFLUENCES RECEIVED “On one occasion, his older sister, Mireglia, had to make a mold to complete an assignment in the field of art at school. When Alexis saw that mold, which was of a doll, he was deeply shocked. In fact, it is a very recurring narrative that he mentioned in many of his interviews, ”commented his other sister Edilia. “Having finished elementary school with great difficulty and given his desire to make art, our mother, Carmen Asunción, with his name, he had been watching; He investigated and learned that the Arturo Michelena School of Plastic Arts existed, where he would later enroll it. His skills allowed him to stay in the course, ”recalls his sister. Alexis Mujica was a true poet lent to sculpture. From an early age he manifested his artistic talent, in principle carving small pieces of wood that already caused astonishment to those who saw her and, later, creating large sculptures. He distilled his talent drop by drop to deliver unreservedly to the Valencian, national and world community, the best of himself.

He was born in a humble family, in Tucacas, Falcón state, on October 27, 1952. The only wealth of the parental nucleus was the love, union and compression existing among all its members, a fact that undoubtedly enhanced , in an extraordinary way, his passion for the art of carving and poetry.

Surrounded by the precariousness of a large family, he always had in his favor the restlessness that characterizes the. artists; in such a way that, having no money for toys, he created them with mud, wood and other materials, an action that gave him the skill for what would be a future full of successes and recognitions.

The female figure produced in sculpture by Mujica is not numerous and can even be described as scarce.

Add three complete, three heads, two torsos and a low relief. And it is the portrait of Hipólita Bolívar, the nurse of El Libertador, one of the most promoted complete figures; The remaining complete figures portray two little ones: The Sasson girl and The Spyva girl, the first, an exempt sculpture, the other, integrated into an installation.

The mutual recognition between teacher and disciple consolidated a friendship of such encouragement that facilitated the work of both in the same project.

Mujica's work was inspired by many poems by the cumanés José Antonio Ramos Sucre, the poet Ana Enriqueta Terán, Eugenio Montejo and the poet Teófilo Tortolero, among others.

ALEXIS REMEMBERED BY HIS FRIENDS Miguel León was very close to Alexis Mujica. “I was part of the“ Nueva Visión ”group, together with Alexis and three other sculptors. In this group I was for six years, being an artist and being so long together led us to a family relationship that always kept us in touch, ”recalls León.

Also, Leon commented that "from the time of student at the art school Michelangelo, Alexis despite his young age, was already full of intense creative fire, sensitivity and restlessness."

FROM THE HAND OF JACOBO BORGES Mujica worked with maestro Jacobo Borges, for the year 1996, in the elaboration of some elements that make up the exhibition “The sky fell apart”; where the sculptor, during the training period at the School of Plastic Arts "Arturo Michelena", received classes on stage design Saturday through Saturday, by also the student of Armando Reverón, the Caracas painter, native of Catia.

In this one, the conviction that the young sculptor was an accomplished artist was printed, that his youth did not overshadow the living fire of creativity.

preceded one of his most emblematic pieces The Argonaut. And, as soon as he returned to Venezuela after spending a season in Italy studying marble carving, he started working at El monta cadavers, which won the Andrés Pérez Mujica Award from the XXXIX Arturo Michelena Hall.

He also drew up female bodies, but he worked them with the same delicacy with which a lady is treated, such as the work The Torso of the Miracle of 1995. From wood it passed to polyester resin, but his intention was to master bronze, an expensive material which he got to use on some pieces on request. Little by little he moved away from the human figure and adopts animals as a subject. From this time they are the eagle parcelaria, the Egyptian dogs and shar pei, the alligators and the condors. His project was to make the small jungle. In this he worked his last days. One of his latest works is a rooster that he drew behind a vinyl poster for his older sister, Mireglia Martina - as he called her - whom he saw as a mother. "On the day of your birthday," reads the dedication. Alexis passed away two months later. Today exactly 10 years after his last breath, which took place in Valencia, the city where he was trained and consecrated as a master of sculpture.

His works of those days, were a kind of tomtems that carved from logs to which he incorporated unconventional materials such as the drum of a washing machine or a gas cylinder. At that time he demonstrated his mastery of woodworking tools and his interest in experimenting with colors. It also reflects the working man, influenced perhaps by his father, Don Oswaldo, who was a builder, and his grandfather who was a cabinetmaker.

Together with Michelle Bernar, Rubén Colombo, Miguel De León, Manuel Pérez and Zerep, he formed the Nueva Visión group.

Then Iván Estrada, Rafael Campos joined and participated as guests Elba Damás and Carlos Zerpa. The ‘70s began. Alexis was 19 years old.

With this group they organized four traveling exhibitions with which they toured in the country for 7 years; They held the 1st National Meeting of Young Artists between April and May of 75, to which they invited Manuel Espinosa, Jacobo Borges, Alejandro Otero, Pedro León Zapata, Alfredo Chacón, Víctor Fuenmayor. BIOGRAPHICAL SYNTHESIS Born in Tucacas, Edo. Falcón, in 1952. Parallel to his primary studies, he began at an early age in the elaboration and sale of ornaments of jobo bark.

Together with his family he moved to Puerto Cabello to pursue his secondary studies. On the recommendation of a friend, he enrolls in the Arturo Michelena School of Arts in Valencia. He travels to Italy and specializes in the technique and elaboration of stone and marble. In the decade of the 60 integrates the group of creators "New Vision", with whom he exhibits regularly. Always renovating, his works exalt the representation of the human and animal figure. He has received the admiration of specialized critics and the public, and his works have been exhibited in the National Art Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barquisimeto, the Francisco Narváez de Porlamar Museum, the Sacred Museum of Caracas, the Arts Center Live "Alexis Mujica" and the Athenaeum of Valencia. Mujica, one of the most prominent Carabobeño sculptors, dies in Valencia on July 24, 2006. In the years 2010 and 2011 the exhibition Alexis Mujica is presented: Rabidly figurative in the cities of Valencia and Caracas.
