relics of a time before

i saw so many lovely things on my walks. i saw this dog! he stopped by to say hello, looking prideful in his little red harness. i saw so many interesting patterns and shapes, things i didn’t even think about prior, such as the pattern of the asphalt, the grooves in the trees, and much bigger things like the cloud patterns in the sky. i heard so many things, the sounds of birds begging for one more piece of bread, of carefree children running and playing. the sounds of coins rattling as people scraped their last bits of change together to get themselves an ice cream, maybe with a flake if they’re feeling cheeky. i heard the train that i had arrived on pulling out of the station, making its bi-hourly journey, with a great shout of its horn as it left. the atmosphere is still so calm and peaceful no matter what time of year, whether it’s a busy sunny day and the population has flocked to the castle grounds to enjoy a few cans on too-small picnic blankets, or whether it’s dark and rainy, the sounds of the water echoing on the trees on the way down. i asked some friends what they thought of their experiences, all saying that it’s a very quaint town, somewhere not too far from home with so many unique charms. it has such a rich history that it’s impossible not to get lost in the nostalgia, even if just for a couple hours.
