I BREATHE
I awaken in the darkCold and clammyShook up from a dreamI can’t remember
I can’t shake the feelingThe fearThe sense of foreboding
I lay there in the darknessWonderingWhat shook me so?
I lay there waitingI tossI turnI’m hotI’m cold
At 4:30 am I get upMake coffeePour Over
I turn on the electric kettleI heat my cup and brewer under hot running waterThe sound, like soft falling rain to my broken ears, awakens my senses
I take my brown paper filter from the cupboardPlace it in the ceramic … brewerAdd coffee
Slowly I pour the hot water into the groundsLetting the water spill out slowly from center in an ever expanding outward spiral
I watchAs the water seeps downEver so slowlyI think of the nearby canyonsCreated by water seeping into the cracks between rocks
Ever so slowly
My mind calmsMy breathing slows I watch I breathe
I’m safe
I add creamThe coffee slides downMy throatThe warmth soothing I breatheI sip
I breathe
