Empowered Magazine is a quarterly digital and print celebratory publication highlighting and recognizing the achievements of women making an impact locally, nationally and globally!

We recognize the accomplishment of women in various industries who are accomplishing great work and giving back to the community.

Elevating and highlighting women role models is critical to advancing women personally and professionally.

Often times, women have been working in their profession, serving others and doing a great job, however their accomplishments get overlooked and sometimes overshadowed. Quite frankly they are not being valued for the work that they do. Empowered Magazine give women a place to be seen, heard and valued.

Our goal is to shine the light on 1 Million Women who are making a difference around the world and we need your help to make it happen.

We believe that when we celebrate the accomplishments of one woman, we inspire the world to celebrate all women!

Annie Khurana, MD

Dr. Annie Khurana is a mom, daughter, loving wife and a caring physician. Dr. Khurana is a Board Certified Family Physician, a Fellowship trained and Board Certified Geriatrician and a Palliative Medicine Physician. Dr. Khurana is passionate about providing quality care and advocacy to her patients and also support to their families. Her ability to communicate advance directives, goals care and appropriate treatment discussion with patients and families are what sets her apart. With complex decisions needed to be made on a daily basis in the healthcare industry, Annie also finds time to skillfully nurture her family and loves to spend quality time with them.

Her greatest joy is teaching her daughters the significance of education, leadership and service to the community. Annie’s mother was instrumental in giving her the tools needed to feel empowered and now she is paying it forward and empowering her girls to be strong and valuable future leaders.

Annie is working with her children as an active member of “National Charity League” and a serving board member of “My Wish for My Community”. She is a champion when it comes to supporting and uplifting women and girls in the community. In her free time, Annie loves to read books, meet with friends and play with her dogs.

Vita Galore

Vita Galore is the living embodiment of what it means to pursue greatness through unspeakable pain. She began her life as the lovechild of an absent American father and an impoverished Peruvian mother, enduring a childhood fraught with abuse and neglect. Vita learned to believe that she was a mistake for much of her life. Yet, for as long as she can remember, Vita surrendered to her innate faith. It’s this faith that led her boldly into her own definition of the American Dream. By surrendering to her spiritual guidance, she has persevered in being, doing, and having everything she dreams of—leading her to inspire others down their own paths of total fulfillment.

Vita realized what it means to accept herself, completely and unapologetically. Always a believer in the power of education, she completed a Masters degree that ultimately led her to a successful journey in sales and marketing.

Vita is also a proud animal advocate and a champion for women, helping the voiceless and invisible feel heard, seen, and loved. As a micro-influencer, one of Vita’s deepest passions is inspiring women to realize the greatness within. With her signature combination of playfulness and unrelenting hope, she strives to help women free themselves from the illusion of not being enough—so that they can heal and thrive from the inside out.

She is currently developing a transformational experience for both men & women called "Express Yourself" to encourage participants to free themselves of limitation and reclaim their voice.

Crys Waddell

Crys Waddell graduated from California State University of Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theater Arts and Dance. Crys is a servant leader who has been creatively impacting communities in significant ways for many years. Her extensive background in all things creative has lent itself to a variety of creative, community-building projects that continue to cultivate the culture around her in unique ways that have fostered tremendous change in marginalized communities. Crys’ is the Creative Strategist/ Chief Operating Officer at Hustle PHX. Hustle PHX is a non-profit that serves under-resourced areas in Arizona by providing intellectual, social and financial capital to entrepreneurs. She thrives on connecting with staff, entrepreneurs, volunteers and donors on a personal level. She is passionate about igniting others' purpose.

Crys’ passion to empower adults, youth in arts, culture, and business has led her on a continuous journey for advocacy. She is the appointed Vice Chairperson for the Arts and Culture Commission for the City of Phoenix. She is also an active board member for AZ humanities and The Tiger Mountain Foundation. Her heart for giving has led her to become a member of the A.A.W.E.G.C.(African American Women’s Empowerment Giving Circle) which is a part of the Black Philanthropy Initiative to advance equity, health, education, leadership and social justice for AfricanAmericans in Arizona. Her most valuable time is spent with her husband and four children. Her tribe( family) is very active. They enjoy hiking, boating/water sports, traveling and intense and competitive game nights.

Doretta Thomas

Doretta Thomas has been an Insurance Agent for over twelve years and specializes in helping women, families and small businesses build a lifetime of financial security. Doretta founded, "Ladies Leaving Legacies, LLC" in 2017 to share and educate women on the importance of how to create generational wealth. She is an active PAC member with Arizona Foundation for Women a non-profit organization that serves women of Arizona providing them safety, health and economic empowerment. She is a Breast Cancer survivor and author of, "Dying Is Not An Option" sharing her story of surviving through faith and resilience. Doretta is also on a mission to educate people about mental health and suicide after losing her youngest son to the illness in 2021. She is ever so passionate about bringing awareness to the communities she serves.

DeSheania Martin believes in helping black women to recognize their worth and live it every day on their own terms. As the founder of The Boujee Auntie brand, DeSheania brings women together worldwide by hosting luxe social gatherings and creating merchandise and educational products that celebrate an elevated lifestyle.

Her growing Facebook community, Black Boujee Women Who Just Love Being Boujee connects more than 11,000 women online who share lifestyle tips and talk about the people, places and things that bring them joy. Volunteer group ambassadors also host experiences to nurture relationships between women in their cities.

DeSheania’s goal to make The Boujee Auntie a household name for Black women who want to enjoy the finer things in life without fear of judgment. She’s excited about the explosive organic growth of women who have found their place in the community.

Isha Cogborn

Erica Maxwell

As the former first associate superintendent of equity, diversity and inclusion at the Arizona Department of Education, and now a consultant and founder of AHA Alliance, LLC, Erica Maxwell represents more than 25 years of experience as a certified educator. In 2022, she published her first children's book, "Beauty With A Birthmark". Over her career, she served as a school administrator, an adjunct faculty member, and faculty associate.

She is a co-founder of the annual Arizona Multicultural Education Conference, and she facilitated a series of community book discussions for Arizona State University’s Center for the Study of Race and Democracy. Her expertise and experiences have been highlighted in presentations throughout the state. She currently serves on the Arizona Juvenile Justice Commission, Children’s Action Alliance, Children’s Museum of Phoenix, and the Human Relations Commission for the City of Chandler.

She has served on the Board of Trustees for Childsplay and was the school administrator representative for Southeast Maricopa County’s First Things First Regional Council. Recognized for her community involvement and excellence in education, Erica was a 2020 Diversity Leadership Alliance Diversity and Inclusion Nominee. She received the 2016 Outstanding Adjunct Award from Chandler-Gilbert Community College, and the 2015 East Valley NAACP Education Advocacy Award.

Susan S. Hwang

Susan S. Hwang is a South Korean immigrant, real estate developer, investor and cannabis business entrepreneur who has been a vested industry stakeholder since 2011. Alicia Marroquin

Alicia Marroquin is a Black Belt Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) World Champion in the American Nationals. For Alicia, BJJ is more than a sport, it’s a way of life. After 10 years of training, Alicia has won one of the biggest tournaments in the BJJ competition world. While on the podium, receiving her gold medal and her black belt was the greatest honor. Through her journey, she has endured anxiety, low self-esteem, and depression. BJJ has helped her conquer all her fears. With this, she has acquired new friendships, a new mindset, and a new life filled with love, compassion, dedication, and purpose. Alicia’s new mindset gave her confidence to start her own business. Her passion for BJJ has extended to her passion for animals. Three years ago, she started a dog walk business with her son, named Sea Dog Walk. Sea Dog Walk is unlike any other dog walk and care service. Alicia is an avid dog lover and dog sitter. She has many years of experience caring for many types of dogs, including dogs with special needs. She takes care of all dogs with love and makes sure that they are physically and emotionally taken care of. Dana Coolbaugh

As an independent business owner, Dana Coolbaugh is passionate about commitment. Dana graduated from CSUF with a degree in Child and Adolescent Studies. Although children make her heart beat, she was still on a journey to find happiness. While venturing out in her journey she found that being a leader and influencing women with her positive motivation and enlightening outlook was her purpose. Cleaning houses might have kept food on the table, however helping women clean and unravel the filth in their minds was where she saw her vision come alive. Dana believes it starts with your mind. Debi Voris

At the age of 49, Debi Voris utilized a gift to transform her life by releasing 70 pounds and has kept it off for over eight years. Debi became an avid runner and has completed six half marathons and is about to take on number seven! In her second half marathon, she cut-off 25 minutes, and continues to improve her times. Debi lives the Keto 90 Lifestyle including wholistic micronutrients. She also uses herbals, and essential oils.

Doreen believes that every extra fat cell is stored energy; unshed tears from unhealed wounds and unresolved trauma. External transformation follows internal healing. LaHelena Mae

LaHelena Mae, a health and wellness enthusiast, began researching nutrition and health in 2009. As it started to build a strong passion within, she began to build her confidence and strength with eating better and working on her fitness journey. She began to work as an entrepreneur in health coaching partnering up with a known in-home fitness company in 2012. In 2015, she earned her Bachelor’s in Nutrition Science and she started to help more women and men manage their health ailments without medicine, including herself. In 2018, LaHelena was featured in ‘Health Talk’ The Magazine- Issue #8. Delores Williams is President & CEO of Millionaire Mind Kids’ (MMK) Non-Profit Organization. Delores holds a Masters’ Degree in Communications Management and Information Technology from the University of Southern California (USC) and a bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Sciences from California State University Dominguez Hills. She enjoyed a career of 20 years in the aerospace and Information Technology (IT) Industries.

In 2005, Delores and her two grandchildren (Najah and Khalil) founded Millionaire Mind Kids when they were seven and nine. The Millionaire Mind Kids’ (MMK) team has provided education enrichment programs that continue to meet the evolving needs of individuals and families residing in communities within the Victor Valley area of San Bernardino County. These programs, offered as free academies for low to moderate-income families, introduce students to career and vocational pathways while addressing the existing inequity gaps within our educational system. In 2020, as a response to COVID-19 exposures of inequities and the nation’s civil unrest due to the killing of George Floyd, MMK added a Social Justice and Civic Engagement entity, Reimagining Our Communities (ROC). ROC equips community members with skills that empower them to become change agents in their communities.

Delores’ commitment to excellence and outstanding performances has earned her the San Bernardino County’s Educational Gold Medal of Honor Award and recognition for her award-winning programs throughout the county. Maria Rodriguez is the co-owner of The Beauty Academy, bringing over 25 years in the beauty industry. The Beauty Academy offers teaching certification programs that successfully allows women to start new careers. Maria’s mission is to uplift, guide, and instill confidence but also empower women of all ages to be strong and independent. Over the last few years, she has made it her goal to always be open to learning and adding new skills to her professional career. As a mother of 3, it wasn’t always easy for Maria to juggle parenting and running a business. Melinda Silva, MD

Dr. Melinda Silva graduated from UCLA with a BS in PsychoBiology and then received her medical degree from UC Davis in 1993. Melinda married her best friend in medical school and recently celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary! She is grateful for her four beautiful “Mexipinos.” They remind her of what is most important: Family and Love. After 13 years as a Board-Certified Family Physician and leader at Kaiser, Melinda completed a Fellowship in Integrative Medicine and for the past 12 years worked in private practice in “AntiAging” and Wellness. Her compassion centered practice focuses on prevention and holistic health care blending traditional medicine with alternative health care. She specializes in plant based bioidentical hormone therapies, weight loss, and cosmetic medicine. Melinda’s emphasis is improving quality of life issues such as sleep, energy, mood, sex, stamina, weight, hair, and skin. In addition, she has expertise with Botox and Fillers and strive to give her patients a refreshed and natural look.

Melinda trains other doctors in her field, lectured at a national level, featured on podcasts, radio, and worked as a medical contributor for Fox 5 News for 6 years. She hosted a relationship segment called “Ask the Doc” and then a parenting segment called “Ask the Moms”. Her first book was released in 2014 “Aging Gracefully and Strong” which became an Amazon Best Seller ranking #1. At age 57, Melinda started bodybuilding to cope with her father’s passing. With that, she won 11 titles in amateur bodybuilding and her fitness journey was featured on “The Doctors” last month. Melinda now has a supplement company with the hope to fund scholarships for the underserved. In 2021, the Silva MD Scholarship awarded a recipient who overcame the challenges of mental illness. Melinda’s life has been a balancing act between her illustrious medical career and her role as mother, wife, soccer mom, girl scout troop leader, community advocate, etc.

Lorrie Denson

On August 1, 1963, Lorrie Ann was born in Topeka, Kansas. She was the fifth of 6 children born to a single mother, Evelyn. Although born in a low-income family, Lorrie has never felt deprived and attributes this to a mother who returned to vocational school as an adult and raised her children to believe in their God given ability to pursue their dreams as well. Lorrie has always loved working with children and was the family and neighborhood babysitter. In 1984, she received her Associate of Arts Degree in Early Childhood. She later earned her Bachelor's in Elementary Education and Masters in Educational Administration. Lorrie has taught grades pre-k through 12th.

In 1995, while vacationing in California, Lorrie was introduced to her now husband by his daughter and her niece. They apparently thought we needed assistance in the romance department. In December of 1996, David and Lorrie married after dating long distance for a year. David is the Founder of Burning Bush Church in Victorville and has been the Pastor for 27 years. Lorrie works passionately in her church and community. She teaches Bible classes and currently serves on the behavioral health board, hospital board and as a Covid Health Ambassador.

Lorrie and Bishop Denson have a blended family of five adult children and eleven grandchildren. She continues to be an advocate for Community Education, Mental Wellness, Spiritual Well-being, and Social Justice. One of her favorite scriptures is: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart” Prov. 3:5-6
