Music City Head Race
AlumniAlumniAlumni SpotlightSpotlightSpotlight
While our current members were working away, on October 22nd, a group of Emory Crew alumni headed up to the Head of the Charles, the largest three-day regatta in the world, with the 2022 iteration sporting 2,487 boats from 789 clubs in a 4,800 meter path on the Charles River in Cambridge, MA, a river infamous for its twists and turns. Philip Lechner ‘20, Neil Tramsen ‘21, Tom Connor ‘15, William Aubin ‘12, coxed by Austin Yu ‘20 came together and competed in the Men’s Alumni 4+ and sped through, crossing the finish line in 18:26.416 and placing 12th out of 23 and clinching a top-half finish. It’s exciting and inspiring to see this sport bring alumni together after all these years. Go Emory!

music city Oct. 29th head race 2022
To kick off the season, Emory Crew took the winding road up to Nashville, Tennessee, to compete in the Music City Head Race. By early Saturday morning, the team was set up right in front of the Cumberland River, and the Men’s 4+ , stroked by Ryan Ruhde ‘23, was already making its way up the course. From there, the day was, for the most part, smooth sailing, both from the downstream current on the race course and the excitement of the team. The tent was set up a short bridge’s walk away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Nashville; a fact that many took advantage of once their races were over, heading out on the town before they had to be back at the trailers to derig and pack up.
Following the Men’s 4+ was the Novice Men’s 8+ , stroked by Basil Habiballah ‘26. From then on, there was a long gap between races, as every other race was during the afternoon. The team made the most of it, but some rest did not mean that anyone wanted to let themselves go just yet.
