Le collectif Street Photographer Luxembourg a été créé en mars 2013 afin de donner une plus grande visibilité à cette forme de reportage qui privilégie les images prises sur le vif et les atmosphères de rue. La photographie de rue est aussi ancienne que la photographie elle-même et elle a été magnifiée par des auteurs mythiques tels que Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Doisneau et Sabine Weiss en France, ou Saul Leiter, Vivian Maier et Gary Winogrand aux USA. Avec l’explosion du numérique et d’Internet, la discipline connaît depuis plusieurs années un essor mondial extraordinaire. Pour la première fois cette année, le collectif participe au Mois Européen de la Photographie, ce qui, outre une diffusion élargie de l’événement, lui permettra d’approfondir sa réflexion sur la pratique de la photographie urbaine dans la société contemporaine. « La Street Photography, c'est comme le jazz, l'union de rigueur formelle et d'improvisation », écrit Alex Cogue. Ce qui compte pour le Street Photographer, c’est d’être sensible aux pulsations de la rue, de saisir ces mille petits instants fugaces qui se trouvent à la conjonction de la lumière, de l’architecture, des citadins et leurs mouvements. En faisant entrer en résonance son monde intérieur avec les vibrations de l’espace urbain, le photographe donne à voir les émotions profondes qui irriguent la société. Les images captées, très souvent dérobées, sont autant d’instantanés bruts, parfois poétiques, parfois empathiques, parfois rageurs, qui témoignent de l’atmosphère d’un lieu ou d’une situation inopinée. Pour cette édition 2017, le collectif Street Photography Luxembourg Asbl (SPL) invite le public à sa cinquième Slide Night, durant laquelle il peut découvrir les diaporamas des douze photographes membres de SPL. Les slideshows durent chacun maximum 5 minutes et proposent un regard à chaque fois particulier sur les espaces urbains les plus divers. Approche graphique, humaniste, ironique, poétique… les points de vue sont divers mais toujours empreints de respect, de réflexion et d’amour pour tout ce qui se passe dans les rues de Luxembourg.
The collective SPL was created in March 2013 to give greater visibility to this form of reporting which favours snapshots and street atmosphere. Street photography is as old as photography itself and has been magnified by famous authors from France such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Doisneau and Sabine Weiss or from the U.S.A. Saul Leiter, Vivian Maier and Gary Winogrand. Today, considering the widespread popularity of digital photography and the internet, this genre has been subject to an extraordinary boom worldwide. This year, for the first time, the collective participates in the European Month of Photography, which, besides reaching a broader audience, will allow them to deepen their reflection on the practice of street photography in contemporary society. “Street Photography is like Jazz, a union of formal rigor and improvisation” writes Alex Cogue. For the Street Photographer it is important to react emotionally to the pulsation of the street, catching the many short-lived moments that arise when light, architecture, passers-by and movements combine. The photographer shows society’s emotions through the fusion of his inner world with the urban space. The images can be rough, sometimes poetic, empathic or furious, or reflect the atmosphere of a place or an unexpected situation. For this 2017 edition, the collective Street Photo graphy Luxembourg Asbl (SPL) organises its 5th Slide Night during which the public will discover the works of the 12 SPL members. Each slideshow takes up to 5 minutes and provides a unique perspective on candid photography and urban spaces: classical, graphic, ironic, poetic... the points of view are manyfold but always full of respect, consideration and love for everything that happens on the streets of Luxembourg.
