Do remember the life changing experience you had when started to follow Jesus? What a joy it is to experience the freedom that God provides! That freedom is not just for us but also for our city and we have a part to play. In this passage, we are reminded to pray for the gospel to be advanced. Prayer plays an important role in the furtherance of the gospel and when have a Kingdom purpose, our prayers become effective for ministry matters. Today, pray for God’s message to continue to advance!

In the Old Testament, God’s people frequently turned away from God. But because of the Lord’s love and grace, He created opportunities for repentance! It’s His grace that is depicted in this passage of Jeremiah.

Each of us have unbelieving family and friends or know someone who once knew God and walked away. God is just and merciful to accept them as they turn from wickedness and turn to God for salvation. So today, in light of God’s grace and mercy, let’s focus our attention on those who are far from the Lord and ask for God to intervene in their story, so that they can participate in the freedom and grace He provides.

God desires to be involved in our lives.

One way this is accomplished is through the Holy Spirit living in us! For the early church, the Holy Spirit being poured out on them was a critical variable to its growth. After all, Jesus told the Apostles to wait for the promise of the Holy Spirit before leaving the upper room to fulfill the great commission! Consider how the Holy Spirit is foundational to your own spiritual growth and pray for the Holy Spirit to be poured out on you, your family, and the church to fulfill the great commission in our day.

However, scripture also shows God through the lens of safety, trust, and protection. In the context of families, God is a shelter of safety providing a place of rest and replenishment. Jesus died on the cross for our healing and deliverance. Through him we can be whole! Today, consider what Jesus chose to endure so that you could have rightstanding with God. As you pray, remember his sacrifice, and ask for wholeness, healing and deliverance that only comes from Him.

As a New years resolution, many want to slim down while others want to bulk up.

However, to be strong and healthy is a prevailing common denominator!

Scripture teaches that there is some profit of taking care of the bodies that God has given to us. But scripture also teaches us about an inner strength that only comes through the Holy Spirit. An endurance that doesn’t come by earthly means but comes from the unending power of God. Today, seek the Lord for his strength. It’s through his strength that we can endure and overcome the trials of life.

In this wonderful account from Luke’s Gospel, a teacher of the law challenges Jesus by asking Him about how to inherit eternal life. Through this discourse we find God’s desire for those that choose to follow Him, and that desire is for us to love Him. However, this love is not one dimensional. It’s holistic! This love requires all that we are! Our heart, emotions, strength, and thoughts. Today, let’s make it a point to give this kind of love to the one who truly loves us the most.

While people may look at our outward appearance, God is looking at our heart!

Praying and fasting is like a mirror, exposing our flaws and shortcomings for the purpose of giving us the opportunity to turn away from the things that trip us up, while turning towards God who is both merciful and compassionate. Today, as you pray, consider how much God loves us. He is slow to anger, abounding in love, and is ready to forgive our sins as we turn toward him in repentance.

During these holy seasons God’s people consecrated themselves, setting themselves apart from the world, through intentional prayer and biblical fasting. They expected powerful things to happen! As we pray together, consider how you may want to start “setting yourself apart” for this time of prayer and fasting. Think about the wonderful things God may want to do in and through you!
