Material Exploration MArchD Year Two Studio 7 Oxford Brookes University Erosion Materials experiments based on the concepts. Ideas and materials collide with each other and metamorphosis happened. New form might be made The spikes is like an intruder to entangled with each other and then attach and grow on the existing to create the new surface. The light is interspersed between the models through dense network. The dense network symbolizes the erosion and spread of new life Technology Objects 3D Scan/ Plastic 3D print/ Resin 3D print/ CNC Milling Tile

The Bioluminescence Fantasy Night MArchD Year Two Studio 7 Oxford Brookes University By using the fungi as the main research material to explore the technology and methods behind the potential uses of mycelium. Mycelium apart from other materials is its ability to regenerate at a quick rate and attach on different surface to form a new space, the designed to welcome their new natural state by mycelium. The project ‘The bioluminescence fantasy night’ is the eventual symbiosis between mycelium, bioluminescence algae and built from time. This story takes place about a hundred years later in the historic Radcliffe Camera in Oxford. Experience the unusual darkness when the sun goes down.

The space formed by mycelium and changing its state over the time and the ever-changing building skin condition is manipulating the spread of light
Mycelium is growing everywhere in the building, the designed to welcome their new natural state
Mycelium experiments from fungi to nutrient liquid Experiment From December 2021 to May 2022 The Mycelium Liquid Culture will be injected into the Radcliffe Camera eroded gaps to provide mycelium nutrition. Since the medium already contains live mycelium it normally colonises a substrate substantially faster and provide unlimited Mycelium Supply

Pumping distilled water into the pond, December 2024
W h e n myc e l i u m g r ow s to a certain amount, the workers will install the feeding system network to the wall for the mycelium to continue growing with enough nutrients. The feeding system network is built with specialised 3D printed angle fittings and PVC pipes to adapt the amazing architecture form. T h e n th e w o r ke r s w i l l pump in seawater mix, algae growth solution and water to form the pond within the building for creating a self-sufficient ecosystem. The water runs through t h e w h o l e b u i l d i n g to allow algae to live within. the water conditions are monitored closely to ensure algae can stay alive.

Algae is jumping out from the seawater
500 million bioluminescence algae are undergoing photosynthesis process in the seawater
In the evening the bioluminescence fungi glow in the dark, creating an unusual darkness
The symbiosis pipe detail model in 1 to 20
Experiment with the symbiosis between algae and mycelium! Testing with the specially designed pipe which has a cor r ugated surface for holding mycelium safely. It is going to be the house for algae inside the pipes and a playground for the mycelium to grow on the surface. Expecting the interaction between algae and mycelium living in closely connected physical association, typically to the advantage of turning Radcliffe camera to the food for algae via mycelium. Also the amazing bioluminescence light from the two different organisms.

The Artificial Garden MArchD Year One AAD Oxford Brookes University Artificial Garden is an interactive vibrant garden created by Hummingbird lovers. The garden is divided into three parts: moisture courtyard, Hummingbird bath, and the greenhouse. Garden located at the cross of Ship Street and Turl Street. The garden acts as a sensory interactive environment that allows peoples and hummingbirds to come together to produce an unexpected symphony of colour, light and sound

The garden welcomes its first visitor
Colour shifts depending on viewing angle
The mist is emitted from the automatic misting system, the space becomes moist
The hummingbirds who like to keep clean are taking a bath after absorbing the nectar
The tiny bee hummingbird enters the garden through the 100mm automatic sensor opening and starts searching for the nectar
Looking up to the bath ceiling, the sky surrounds the garden and a few hummingbirds are absorbing nectar
On the way to the hummingbird bath. Space is getting wetter, even can catch the water dripping from the wall
Observe the hummingbirds from different heights
Observe the hummingbird at such a close distance, The light reflected by his feather is refracted on the dichroic film
Visitors walk through space where the mist restricts the visibility to just a few inches. The tiny hummingbird is like a lamp gleaming
Only 700mm away from the hummingbirds
Interestingly, their color isn’t their feather color. It changes for light, wetness, or degrees
A group of hummingbirds is basking in the noon sun above the greenhouse after taking a bath
The visitor is drawn into an iridescent garden from the tiny window and these colors are not fixed and will change with time and light
Turl street started to fall asleep. The ruby-throated hummingbird still shows his gleaming feathers in the garden
The luminous green garden at night
The dusk sunlight shines into the garden. With the sunset, the garden was stained with a luminous color
The color change from sunset to evening is absorbed by the dichroic film and reflected in the garden
