DESIGNING HOPE AROUND THE GLOBE IN 2019 In June, an EMI Canada team traveled to Cluj, Romania to design a ministry camp for Impact Romania and its Romanian foundation, Pas Cu Pas. This ministry serves local orphans by teaching Jesus as the foundation for life and restoration; creating supportive community; and providing life skills training. After a productive week onsite, including an impactful visit to an orphanage, the team delivered a site master plan, including living, dining, and vocational training facilities, as well as necessary supporting infrastructure. A second EMI Canada team traveled to Orosi, Costa Rica to serve Global Outreach Mission at its “El Jardin Sagrado” retreat centre. The campus, designed in previous years by EMI, has already lost roughly 1.5 acres of land due to erosion caused by the adjacent river. Campus facilities, as well as public infrastruture such as the road and power lines, are already at risk of catastrophic damage. The EMI team spent a week with local ministry leaders and design professionals learning, listening, and developing recommendations for mitigating further erosion. A highlight of the week was a productive meeting with a federal government engineer Costa Rica’s “emergency” ministry.
