Initial Explorations:

Ellen is an unruly 20-year-old anorexic girl who spent the better part of her teenage years being shepherded through various recovery programmes, only to find herself several pounds lighter every time.

The current movie poster has a very obvious gradient to create a sense of fading away. I feel like the obvious idea is to have the type literally fading in weight, but I think the fading ink in the “magic” exploration might apply really well here. I am also drawn to the idea of having the words “To The” floating as typeset letter, and then having “Bone” physically written on someone’s body.

Movie: To The Bone

The final poster series incorporated the gradually thinning type with a striking and lonesome photograph on a black background. This allows the contrasting typography to take center stage.

Following feedback, my trailer was redone to focus more on my earlier typography explorations. Due to the eating disorder focus of the movie, I decided to take advantage of the paper towel medium to create a relevant moment that breaks the fourth wall: tearing off a piece of the experiment to wipe my mouth.
