A Legacy of Learning Annual Report 2019-2020
A Legacy of Learning
From THE Head of School
During the summer of 2019, we began making plans for a joyful celebration of 65 years of making a difference in the world. We planned to celebrate those who have come before us who built this school on a solid foundation; able to weather storms, triumphs and tragedies with grace and compassion while maintaining a commitment to excellence on every level. We could not foresee that our community would face the flooding of Imelda or the quarantining of Covid-19. However, the resiliency and strength of the foundation that has been forged since 1954 were clearly evident in our response as a school to these events. The forward visioning and strategic planning of the Board positioned us to be able to more successfully pivot to our Continuous Learning program off-campus than any other school in our area. The solid foundation of being the first school in Southeast Texas to provide one-to-one devices, and being the only school in our area that continues to lead daily chapel, enabled us to take giant leaps of faith. I am so very proud of how our students, parents, and faculty and staff rose to the occasion, caring for each other and working together to end the year strong. I hope you enjoy this year’s Annual Report - a timeline celebrating our 65th Anniversary! Reflecting on 20192020, you will see it was a year of many achievements and milestones and a year of affirming why All Saints has been a leader in education for our area for the past 65 years, and will continue to be so for generations to come. In the month of January, notice the pictures from our very successful first Culture Festival and the All Saints State of the School Address. Our middle school drama students concluded the State of the School event with an inspiring performance of A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman. The lyrics epitomize what we all want for our children - for them to say: I think of what the world could be A vision of the one I see A million dreams is all it’s gonna take A million dreams for the world we’re gonna make This is the goal of an All Saints education and experience - to dream a million dreams and have the foundation, skills, and confidence to go out into the world and make those dreams come true. With the visioning and strategic planning of the Board, coupled with the growth mindset of our community, I look forward to continuing to work hand-in-hand with you to educate and instill in your precious children the ability to dream, to think outside of the box, and to envision a future bright with promise. Blessings, Scootie Clark Head of School
From The Board of Trustees President On behalf of the All Saints Board of Directors, we are pleased to share this Annual Report with you. It has been my honor to serve as your Board President. This has been a year of challenges that none of us could have imagined. But, I could not be more proud of how the All Saints faculty, staff, and families have navigated the issues we have faced together in these uncertain times. In my position as Board President, I was able to witness first-hand the tremendous amount of reflection, collaboration, and strategic planning that went into moving from on campus learning to distance learning and to making our school as safe as possible. As always, the mission of All Saints has been our guide and we have truly come together as a community to support the most important part of our school, the students. As I leave my role as Board President, I leave knowing that All Saints continues to be on the leading edge of education in Southeast Texas and positioned to provide a school that not only celebrates academic excellence, but also focuses on the character and complete well-being of our students. As we move into the 2020-2021 school year, the future is very bright for All Saints. We will be faced with many challenges, but are armed with the tools our predecessors have provided. I am confident that All Saints will continue to prosper. Thank you for your continued support of our school and our mission. Sincerely, Rachel Grove President of the All Saints Board of Trustees

From The Parent Association President “What is the essence of life? To serve others and to do good.” —Aristotle It is with immense gratitude that I reflect over the past year as the All Saints Parent Association president. It has been an honor to serve alongside the All Saints administration, faculty and staff, the ASPA executive board, committee chairs, parents, grandparents, and volunteers, and I am proud of the huge accomplishments made even under the challenging circumstances we faced in 2019-2020. Through the fundraising projects like the ASPA Book Fair, the ASPA Movie Night and our ASPA gala “A Sapphire Shindig,” we were able to fulfill our obligations, provide financial support where needed, and celebrate our 65th anniversary in grand style! As a result of this past year’s fundraising successes, the ASPA contributed $23,000 to the All Saints operating budget, and $28,888 to classroom enhancements that will benefit every child at every grade level. We should all feel tremendous joy in the gifts given by the ASPA knowing they made a positive contribution to the quality of the education, student life, and spirit of the All Saints community! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Faiza Anwar All Saints Parent Association President

The year in giving Although our 65th year was marked by great disruption from both a tropical storm in the fall and a pandemic in the spring, our generous community continued to give with open hearts. State Of The School January 23, 2020 was a remarkable evening as Mrs. Scootie Clark delivered the second State of the School address during her tenure as Head of School. Mrs. Clark unveiled details of our recent re-accreditation success including a video presentation of the Rev. Boo Kay, the leader of our Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools re-accreditation team. View the video by clicking on QR Code BK. Next, a series of videos were presented highlighting our core values: Academic excellence, spirituality, and community, and the life-long impact of the All Saints experience. Click on the QR Codes 1, 2 and 3 to watch these magnificent testimonials. Following the testimonial videos, Board President Rachel Grove outlined the Board’s continued commitment to our 5-year strategic plan. Board Vice-President Kelly Henry discussed great strides made by the newly formed Tuition Research Committee to locally respond to the global issues facing all private schools regarding the disparity between rising tuition costs and stagnant wages. Finally, ASPA President Faiza Anwar reported the many contributions made by our Parent Association and volunteers, and invited everyone to celebrate our 65th Anniversary by attending the ASPA Sapphire Shindig in February. The evening concluded with a vocal presentation of The Greatest Showman’s “A Million Dreams”, performed by current students, alumni and an All Saints parent. It was a wonderful evening emphasizing the financial health and stability of our School, while assuring the continued success of All Saints for many generations to come.

Culture Festival The first annual All Saints Episcopal School Culture Festival was a smashing success! After months of planning and preparation, our All Saints Gym was transformed into an international wonderland. Twenty tables, representing twenty different nations, were festooned with indigenous decorations, edible treats, and examples of native wares and traditions. Students travelled the world as they visited each country’s table, devouring international cuisine while listening to meaningful presentations given by families and friends of the All Saints community. Many students participated in a showcase of talent on stage performing native dances, or singing songs in their native language. We are grateful for the colossal effort brought forth by students, families, Board, faculty, staff, and numerous volunteers, to deliver this spectacular event! Take a sneak peek of the gym’s atmosphere on this glorious day and enjoy the video below.

And We Learned to Learn Online After two brief days of intense training and countless hours of prayer, All Saints was able to pivot from on campus to CONTINUOUS LEARNING. Our GRIT and determination were fortified by our advanced technology set in place years ahead of other schools, and by our faith in one another! Communication in this new world was challenging, but through a series of weekly parent surveys, All Saints was able to quickly respond and adapt to the needs of our students and families. Two new websites were developed to help streamline resources and assignments lessening the stress on parents supervising school at home. Teachers developed science lessons in their backyards. Students created unbelievable works of art at home. At the suggestion of our coaches, homemade obstacle courses kept everyone physically fit. Dr. Willard hosted The Middle School Meeting Show, highlighting a different guest and musical artist each week. And, whether fully dressed or maybe still in our jammies, All Saints “attended” chapel every morning. All in all, teachers delivered, students were inspired, and parents persevered!
