Radiant

Resilient

Renewal

Nurture a holistic day spa specializing in therapeutic treatments for multiple sclerosis patients, located in a serene, parklike setting at the base of a mountain. Owned by a doctor and physical therapist team, Pat and Chris Helf, the facility included approximately 4,600 square feet, with 1,000 square feet designated as their residence. The driving force behind this project was to promote a journey that instills growth within ourselves. The concept was based on the premise that being connected to the natural world provides strength as we navigate our own experiences with change. Designed to cater to individuals battling multiple sclerosis, the spa served as a source of renewal. While there is no cure for MS, the patients’ resilience was supported by the spa’s restorative environment, offering a sanctuary for healing and rejuvenation. The design incorporated sustainable and environmentally friendly FF&E, reflecting the clients’ commitment to holistic wellness and sustainable practices. The colors and concept words, Radiant, Resilient, and Renewal, were inspired by nature. Radiant emphasizes natural light and movement to promote energy and reduce fatigue. Resilient reflects nature’s adaptability, encouraging inner strength. Renewal symbolizes the spa as a journey of growth, offering practices that support personal healing and well-being.

This project collaborates with local Florentine shop owner Roberta to redesign her boutique layout and window display. Her brand identity is deeply rooted in Florentine heritage and a commitment to Italian leather craftsmanship, appealing to those who value quality, tradition, and the artistry of Made in Italy. The concept uses rich purples, Calacatta marble, and dark walnut tones to express quiet luxury and refined Italian elegance. The 400 sq. ft. space integrates custom wall cabinetry for display, a bespoke bench for seating, and a dedicated accessory area showcasing hats, scarves, and shawls in luxurious fabrics such as cashmere, silk, and linen, curated to complement the leather pieces. A spring window display inspired by the wisteria pergola at the Bardini Garden reflects the beauty of spring in bloom while maintaining visual openness into the store. The design guides customers intuitively through the space, showcasing Roberta’s craftsmanship and selected collections in a modern, elegant, and inviting way.

Window Display Concept A spring window display inspired by the cascading wisteria of the Bardini Garden pergola brings a sense of seasonal elegance and Florentine romance, drawing softness, movement, and natural beauty into the storefront.

Loneliness Among Elders Statistics

Feeling Lonely

Parti Concept Higher Risk of Declining Health

Inspired by the circle of life, the design forms a metaphorical nest where knowledge, experience, and discovery continuously intertwine.

Higher Risk of Death In today’s rapidly evolving society, the importance of multigenerational communication cannot be overstated. As technological advancements reshape the way we interact and communities become increasingly diverse, bridging the gap between different age groups becomes paramount. As our society ages, loneliness becomes a major issue. The project is addressing the adverse effects of the cycles of life through the processes of young to old, sick to healed, and loneliness to joy. The space brings to life the Italian word “Nido,” meaning nest. Elders share stories and drop seeds of wisdom while the children, in return, encircle the elders with new life, simple joys, and second chances, carefully constructing this metaphorical nest. The nest takes shape as a satellite daycare located in a nearby nursing home. The project centers around three key design principles: sensory design, storytelling, and inclusive design. Storytelling comes to life in the central space, which includes bench seating, floor cushions, and a surrounding track that encourages users to reflect on memories and share pictures. Adjustable curtains provide flexibility, allowing the space to adapt to varying privacy needs based on the events. The sensory room enhances the experience with climbable forms, a pegboard, and a sensory wall featuring activities for all age groups. Inclusivity is prioritized through ADA-compliant accessibility and facilities, ensuring the space is welcoming to everyone.

A place of refuge sheltered from above.

Invites the eye to wander, providing safety within.

Light that offers warmth and an ambient glow.

The Lighthouse serves as a beacon of calm amidst the surrounding frenzy. Embodying a slower, more natural rhythm of life. It becomes a dedicated place of rest, guiding individuals toward peace and renewal.

The lighthouse is a luminaire designed for the US airport boarding gate lounge along a terminal concourse. Often, the lighting in these locations is bland, unmemorable, and uninspiring. Inspired by the quiet strength of a lighthouse, this pendant fixture suspends above, anchoring the space with light and presence. Its circular form echoes the watchful eye of the tower, casting a diffused glow that offers warmth and ambient serenity. It invites wanderers, providing safety within, just as the lighthouse does for those navigating uncertain waters. Creating a high-quality environment to stay, catch up on communication, and relax as you wait for your flight. The pendant fixture features a high-efficiency LED radial array of panels. The light output, tuned to a 2700K color temperature, is in sync with the body’s natural circadian rhythm, promoting relaxation and peace in a busy airport atmosphere. A multilayer diffusion system of frosted panels and glass surrounds the light source, reducing glare and mimicking natural light. This diffusion produces a comforting energy that improves both optical relief and the spatial environment.

As economic uncertainty, rapid digitalization, and the prevalence of hybrid work alter the profession, law firms are no longer sufficient to satisfy the changing needs of today’s workforce and clients. NEXT is a law firm serving clients worldwide with 16 offices. NEXT is opening a new 15,000 sq. ft. office in Los Angeles, California designed to embody the firm’s values of legacy, inclusivity, and innovation, supporting hybrid collaboration, flexible work arrangements, and employee well-being. Inspired by the the California poppy that has left a legacy of beauty, tenacity, and regrowth that is rooted in California’s landscapes. Even in the harsh landscapes shaped by wildfires, the California poppy emerges, embodying the concept of emergence through hardship. It’s this same spirit of perseverance that inspires the NEXT law office design, reflecting the firm’s ability to adapt, perpetuate growth, and build community from the roots up. This takes shape within the workspace through flexible spaces that promote resilience and adaptability to meet the needs of employees. Through the provision of focus, collaboration, and restoration, the California poppy is realized as a bond between people and nature.

Nyctinasty Room Inspiration The concept for this sensory space is inspired by the California poppy’s nyctinastic movement; its delicate closure at night and reopening with the return of light. Just as the poppy responds to its surroundings with rhythmic peace and protection, this space is intended to provide employees with a place to withdraw, regroup, and reopen with new clarity.

The lounger’s proven body, suspended on ropes similar to a hammock, evokes a sensation of effortless floating and deep relaxation. Its ergonomic design and solid oiled-wood construction provide an exceptional comfort experience, while high-strength nylon ropes are engineered to sustain substantial loads. The lounger body can be easily adjusted along the rope to accommodate a range of reclining and sitting positions.
