Description/ Concept: For this Studio IV project we were to work in groups. This is the only project in my portfolio which is not soley individual work. My group totalled 3 students up to midterms; myself, Giorgi Martinez and Greg Lawless; then we had 2. I have labeled their contribution respectively in this section of my portfolio. This project was to develop a live-work complex that would be inhabited like a work-study program for a year basis at a time. Half of the complex needed to provide living arrangements and the other half was to be utilized for work-study purposes. Our “makers” for this project were selected by Giorgi and Greg. Giorgi’s maker selection was an armillary sphere maker and Greg’s selection was a light sculptor. Together we created a space in which 5 makers each, to total 10 residents, would occupy the facility for a year and work together on their research. Note that scale here is shown by either the bicycle or a person unless otherwise notated on the page next to the drawing according to an 8.5”x11” page.

I did the material selection and render on this final model render.

Two-Point Perspective View

Our concept developed throughout the semester was to study the site’s relationship to the movement of the sun, moon and celestial bodies as it is in proximity to the earth and the passing of time. Our building is unique in that we intentionally designed it to carve light and create dynamic shadows. The central monument is a place where the makers can display and showcase their work as a large projection. It is meant to draw people to see the research displayed.

LIVE-WORK SPACE

Skills/Toolsets: Rhinoceros 3D; Adobe Illustrator; Adobe PhotoShop; Adobe Illustrator; InDesign; Site Analysis The floor plans and 3D model were built in Rhino and edited in Adobe Illustrator. I did all of the 3D modeling, floor plans, sections, elevations and make2D production in scale for this project shown in my portfolio. I did the 3D printing and laser etching/cutting where applicable. Any group member work shown that is relevant to what is shown in this portfolio is named next to their work.

Skills/Toolsets: Rhinoceros 3D; Adobe Illustrator; Adobe InDesign This class ARCH 1110, did not have a site. The object was simply to understand diagramming and we had a series of assignments during the semester which were digrammatic in nature. This assignment was the final one and I was permitted to use high-resolution tools for it. We were to design a tiny home not exceeding 800-1000 sq feet, we had a program to follow and by the end had to show a renovated floor plan for the bathroom being made ADA compliant. The floor plans are scaled to 11” x 8.5” pages which worked perfectly for this portfolio therefore all scale anotations are precise to this page size.

Two-Point Perspective View

Rendering: I used Rhino Render for this Two-Point Perspective View. Drafting: On page 15, The architectural drawings you see there, an exploded axonometric view and two floor plans, are both done using Rhinoceros 3D. I then used layering, lineweights, and poche settings in tandem between Rhinceros 3D and Adobe Illustrator. Again, The scale anotated is precise for a letter size page.

05 DINOSAUR MUSEUM Skills/Toolsets: AutoDesk Revit; Rhinoceros 3D, Adobe Illustrator This project was a final for a Revit class elective I took and our professor wanted us to design a Dinosaur Museum on Dinosaur Ridge. We did not do any official site visits and this was not a studio class.

Revit Render

The primary objective of this class was to learn how to use Revit and produce sheet sets, walkthroughs and renders. I have since taken it further into Rhinoceros and Adobe Illustrator knowing how to use them in tandem as well. All scales annotated are according to as letter size sheet. Note this museum is massive and we were to grade the land and pave road as seen in the site plan view. A Tyranosaurus Rex Skull is about 4 x 5 feet and would display well in the main gallery as a partial exhibit. The spine would also work well as a partial exhibit. A Velaciraptor, with a size of 2-3 feet in height and 6-7 feet in length would be a great exhibit in the main gallery. Other dinosaurs which would be great displays here would be a Protoceratops with a height of 4 feet and a length of 6 feet, and/or a Hypsilophodon with a height of 3 feet and a length of 7 feet. Our class was given a program to follow which constitututes the size of this place. Visualizing the space, some rooms could be used for stores or restaurants such as a coffee shop, gift shop, pretzel cafe, Discovery store or a Smithsonian Book Store, etc.
