This was my first project leading the design process from concept through completion, working closely with the owners to create a luxury spec home with a fresh, contemporary point of view. Together, we embraced a more modern design direction that pushed beyond the firm’s traditional aesthetic while remaining thoughtful and refined. Throughout construction, I made regular site visits to monitor progress, document key decisions, coordinate updates, and ensure the design was executed as intended. I also maintained and updated drawings throughout the process, helping create a seamless transition from concept to completion. This project strengthened my project management and communication skills while giving me a deeper understanding of the full interior design lifecycle from initial concept and client collaboration through procurement, construction, and final execution.

My primary focus as a Design Assistant has been entering project specifications and details into a variety of budgets and schedules. I took the initiative to streamline our budgeting and scheduling processes. During my time at my current firm, I spearheaded the revamp of our budget sheets to make them more intuitive and efficient. I introduced formulas and added strategic columns to help general contractors more easily understand and utilize our project packages.

Working on the spec-home side of the business allowed me to become deeply in tune with the construction process. I coordinated closely with our field team throughout the entire project—from breaking ground to final furnishings. I also collaborated with our vendors and subcontractors, managing install dates, purchasing, deliveries, and resolving on-site issues as they arose. This role strengthened my ability to keep multiple moving parts organized and aligned, and I genuinely enjoyed this hands-on experience.

I worked closely with the lead designers to bring this project to life. I completed all of the drafting for each space and coordinated directly with subcontractors from countertop fabricators to millworker by providing detailed drawing sets and clarifications. I assisted in sourcing tile and stone specifications throughout the home, ensuring each material aligned with the design intent and overall aesthetic. In addition, I created design boards that helped the lead designers visualize their concepts and refine their selections during the specification process.

In this project we were taught resiliance and how to navigate historical preservation. Through research of micro-climates and the climate inequity of phoenix we focused a lot of out design on sustainablility and several ways of combatting the heat. Our concept was inspired by canyon since we are the Grand Canyon state as well as how inspiring and whimsical they can be. Making such a unique building transform into a children’s museum we wanted to keep as much integrity to the original building as we could as well as creating a welcoming new place for families to explore. A burned down church and a children’s museum have very little in common, yet finding a way to marry these two concepts together was a transformative and inspiring experience. Learning to adapt to the conditions of an exsisting building tought me how to be flexible and have more attention to detail. This project brought excitement and unpredicatability to design. Making an RFP and project schedule for this project was a learning curve for myself and my group but it made everything we were designing feel real.

CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF PHOENIX

MONROE STREET ABBEY

CANYONS

- Current museum is in the monroe school & shows off the buildings history -CMOP is resilient because it has worked through hardships to continue to provide for the community

- One of the most historic buildings in downtown phoenix - shown its resilience in the way it survived an intense fire and still stands to have a new purpose to serve the community once again

- Show their history through their layers and typography - Carved by water eroding away softer rock and leaving the resilient rock walls

Second Floor Plan

Our Crystal Creek Cafe was inspired by the reflective, glittering rivers that carve out the vast canyons we see today. The trapezoid-shaped cafe mimics the shape of the rose window above it connecting the new structureto the original building. After researching different techniques of cooling and heating using thermal mass, we came to conclusion of utilizing rammed earth for the second floor.

21

Third Floor Plan

I explored different utilizations and explorations of canyons and found out a this unique way of lounging. Refered to as “Space nets” these woven hammock-like nets create a space of freedom and exploration. This net would be made from 1-inch-thick (2.54-centimeter) tubular nylon webbing which will be anchored to the walls and floor of our third floor.

In this project, I explored contemporary challenges in workplace design, focusing on key aspects such as sustainability, wellness, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), work modes, space planning, color and materiality, organizational identity, and strategies for attracting and retaining talent. I chose to examine how modern workplace needs can coexist with traditional values and aesthetics. By studying the evolution of work modes—particularly the rise of hybrid models—I designed an office space that encourages collaboration and human connection, addressing the isolation many have experienced through prolonged screen-based interaction. Taking this project from concept to completion on my own strengthened my confidence and sharpened my decision-making skills. It also gave me a deeper understanding of how the pandemic has permanently influenced workplace design, and the importance of adaptability in an ever-changing professional landscape.

Boston, Massachusetts

NEXT at the Boston Seaport highlights the contrast—and harmony—between the charm of Boston’s backstreets and the city’s modern, rapidly evolving side. Despite their differences, both worlds complement one another, creating a unique and balanced urban experience. NEXT encourages moments of pause and reflection, celebrating the beauty of slowing down and appreciating the little things in life.

Boston is home to over 4,000 Back Street businesses employing more than 100,000 people—representing 21% of the city’s workforce. Despite their significant impact, these businesses are often undervalued compared to dominant sectors like finance and healthcare. Back Street businesses have played a critical role in the growth of Boston’s local food cluster, which depends heavily on the preservation of industrial space. However, with increasing pressure from residential and retail development, the city’s industrial space declined by 38% between 1962 and 1999 (ICIC.org).

Connecting color to concept

The use of primary colors symbolizes origins and foundations. Just as these colors are the building blocks of all others, Boston represents the beginning of America’s history. This connection reinforces NEXT’s identity as a leader in innovation, rooted in tradition while shaping the future. The color palette of navy blue and yellow represents NEXT’s connection to both Providence, Rhode Island—its home base—and its Massachusetts location. These colors appear in both state flags, symbolizing regional pride and unity. They also echo the iconic Boston Marathon, the world’s oldest annual marathon, originally established to commemorate the first battles of the Revolutionary War.

Red and pink tones reflect the historic brickwork of Boston’s brownstone homes. Massachusetts was home to the first brick kiln in the American colonies, established in 1629. Red brick became a New England staple, not only for its durability but also for its visibility in the region’s frequent fog. Together, these colors ground NEXT in the deep historical and cultural roots of the area.

is a leading global company headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island paving the way for innovation and integrity in home robotics providing consumers with eco-friendly eco-systems to make life easier through sleek design. NEXT creates the foundation for a life of ease improving everyday living brick by brick. NEXT values Authenticity, Fostering Connections, and is Humanity Centered. The Boston Seaport location highlights the contrast and harmony between the city’s historic backstreets and its modern, rapidly evolving landscape. Though different, these two sides of Boston balance each other reflecting NEXT’s belief in honoring the past while embracing the future. This space invites moments of pause and reflection, encouraging visitors to slow down, breathe, and appreciate life’s simple joys.

Sharp corners and parallel lines define the more private, “back street” areas of the office, while rounded corners signal semi-public, high-traffic zones—like social spaces along the “main street.” This contrast in geometry helps subtly guide movement and define the level of openness throughout the space. 31

Workstations + Heads down Focus

Team Space + Collaboration

Unassigned Desking

Walking desks allow for users to increase movement at work while staying productive. Movement is important for staying healthy, improving alertness, and can be a mood booster.

Hybrid equipped for easy communication with teams out of the office.

This offers the individuals a sense of change and the ability to meet individual preferences, enhance a sense of community through more collaboration, supports the idea of movement and most importantly, makes it feel more centered around the human rather than the company

Synchronous communication promotes the development of positive relationships and ensures trust in one another.

Phone Rooms

Work Cafe

Meeting Room

Two phone room by the social area allows for people to have easy access to get away for a quick call or meeting. The other two phone rooms are placed by the workstations for people with a busy day that might need a quick pick me up of quiet time or need to hop on an unexpected call.

The drop ceiling and change of flooring in the seating area allows for a more intimate feeling.

When thinking of a collaborative workspace, the best way to design it is to create a semi-private but shared environment. Creating a workspace that is unique in its design so it can spark conversations and new ideas to the people using it.

Alternative Workplace Strategy is the idea of defined work zones beyond the assigned or unassigned desk. It brings in a combination of different collaboration spaces ranging from small benches to extra large conference rooms which we have created through hightop seating to a conversation pit inspired area for the Cafe

33

Reception | Entrance

As you enter the space, you can choose to walk down the vibrant Main Street or take the quieter, less-traveled path along the backstreet, lined with brick and crown molding reminiscent of classic brownstone homes. These tranquil backstreets provide intimate spaces to showcase special projects or serve as a gallery for employee appreciation displays. LED ceiling lights mimic street lines, acting as a subtle wayfinding guide that leads visitors through Main Street, enhancing navigation while reinforcing the urban design concept.

Home Office

This Home Office allows consumers to experience our products in a simulated environment where they would typically be used. Next to the Home Office is our merchandise and product retail store “Next Door” since our products are always right around the corner.

The drop ceiling creates a sense of intimacy in a quieter section of the work café, offering a private space to relax and unwind. In contrast, the large dining table encourages collaboration and communal enjoyment during meals. A curtain separates the meeting room from the open area, allowing the space to transform into a multipurpose zone for events and presentations, making it more accessible for group participation. The use of glass brick beautifully bridges Old Boston’s historic charm with the sleek modernity of New Boston.

Located on the sixth floor with limited outdoor access, this park-inspired respite zone brings a refreshing touch of nature indoors, complemented by a beautiful view of the Seaport Commons. Focus Pod Tents adjacent to the brick phone rooms provide quiet, dedicated spaces for heads-down work. Planters filled with cranberries and local vegetation near the reception and respite areas evoke a sense of connection and familiarity to the city of Boston.

04 Healthcare Design Year: 2021 Mentors: Jose Bernardi, Scott Steffes, Alyssa Robinson, Sonja Bochart Collaborators: Raneem Mujad, Carolina Pacheco Location: 3830 E. Van Buren St. Phoenix AZ 85008 Programs Used: AutoCad, SKetchup, Podium

In this project, we examined all the key factors involved in designing a healthcare facility. Using Mountain Park Health Center as a case study, our team focused on rebranding and improving the existing building by integrating Native American healing practices into the overall design. Throughout the project, we collaborated closely on every aspect of the design. After gaining more experience with design programs over the past few years, we shifted our focus from technical skills to a deeper understanding of materials and the critical role of wayfinding. This was our first project where the team worked collaboratively on the entire design, rather than dividing tasks individually, providing a valuable opportunity to strengthen our teamwork and unity.

Focusing on the Hocokah Native American tribe, we explored their healing circle practice, where the ill would gather in a circle to discuss and reflect deeply on their path to healing. Central to their process was a strong belief in the natural healing powers of the earth, with plants like sweetgrass, sage, and tobacco playing a vital role. Our project aims to bring these Native American healing traditions into the 21st century by blending color theory and modern design principles to create a cohesive, thoughtful space that honors this heritage.

First Floorplan

Scale: 1/32” - 1-0’

Throughout the private areas of the clinic, we created 3ft nooks between exam rooms to provide more natural lighting for a connection to nature as well as add a space for staff or family to have a place to reflect or have a moment to themselves. Each nook will be painted either sage green, ash brown, or light beige to assist with wayfinding and tie in our concept.

First Floor RCP

Scale: 1/32” - 1-0’

Circular pendant lighting helps tie in the healing circle elements from the Hocokah tribe.
