Chérie Emery is located in the dreamy state of Connecticut. The French inspired residence embraces elements of both French and modern design. Laying lake side, the Chérie Emery has incredible views from all angles ranging from the exterior views into the interior views.

Cherie Emery Residence embraces the French style of architecture. French architecture has many different characteristics and identifying features such as steeply pitched hip roofs, brick, stone, and decorative half timber facades. Inspired by the design of French homes, Cherie Emery is designed symmetrically and centers the main entry creating two wings on each side. The exterior is then defined by natural finishes such as natural stone and neutral colored brick. Adding to the aesthetic are tall, rectangular windows that perfectly align with the windows on the second floor.

Under the mentor-ship of designer, Young Huh, this Millennial apartment captures the rising generations influence within the design industry. Focused on sustainability for the well being of the earth, life voyages, and the opulence of being able to bring the work force to the home. This design is clean, contemporary, and is perfected with moments of color. The space is then completed with the latest and most exciting technology.

P ROJEC T D ESC R I PT I O N The Millennial Luxury Apartment Building is located in the Financial District of New York City. The 1,000 SF two bedroom residence, includes a combination living and dining room, galley kitchen and two bathrooms. To add to the luxury, residence’s of the building will have full access to a yoga studio/gym, rooftop terrace, screening room and common party/lounge space. 17

MA STER B EDROO M Millennial priorities of importance in their life currently include career advancement, health/wellness/ mindfulness, sustainability, traveling, and fashion. There is much value in a space that is modern, with touches of warmth and personality. The master bedroom accomplishes those values and more. A West Texas Morning art piece by Kristen Moore is the focal point when entering into the retreat. The greenery, warm woods, and bright whites bring a sense of nature, warmth, and cleanness to the space. Each furniture piece serves a specific purpose as the client tends to live a minimal life style. To the left of the bed is a cozy area for planning the next vacation, blogging about the latest fashion, or to read a book from the New York Time’s best seller list. Above the custom designed headboard are square wall panel frames that hold photos of favored places around the world. Each panel was designed to be customized by any Millennial who lives here to exhibit their personal travel, experiences, or one’s most cherished life memories. The room is completed with an incredible view of the Financial District. 18

M ASTER BATH ROO M The master bathroom is captivating with its bright colored, custom tile. The bestowed tile spreads across the wall behind the deluxe bathtub and shower, and onto the right wall around the vanity. The design of this tile was inspired by the glaciers of Antarctica, one of the world’s most beautiful and rare places to explore. Therefore, the design is intended to bring that experience into the space. To complete the space, included above the bathtub is a Slim Chandelier and a wood tray to hold bathtime luxuries. The Slim pendant is installed over the custom vanity that holds the beautiful Vetro Freddo Glass Circular Vessel. In the reflection of the custom mirrors, is a magnificent painting, the Orion by Lynch. The master bathroom is the perfect space to begin and end each day.

Figurati, an Italian phrase meaning “imagine or picture that”, was chosen as the name for a modern house boat as my imagination was sparked for the design when reflecting on my time living near the Mediterranean waters. This modern house boat is a form of imagination and memories collected. The shape of Figurati was developed through the process of abstracting sea life into simple shapes and then creating an overall 3D figure. The design was further developed with marine interior designer’s professional input and other professional critiques. Figurati is located on the coast of Portofino, Italy

LOC A L PAWS Local Paws an animal shelter located in Daybreak, Utah. This shelter is designed to offer a humane housing facility for animals in need. The shelter embraces design that provides comfort, safety, and compassion for both the animals, employees, and community. Local Paws strives to end the killing of abandoned and shelter animals, therefore this design is meant to be replicated across the nation. *C-IDEA Design International Finalist - Top 10 out of 2,075 entries

cat housing This space is designed to create a superior introduction to adoptable cats with an open free range lay out. Included in the design is housing for both non social cats as well as communal housing for those who enjoy the company of others. Connected to this space is an cat friendly outdoor play area where the cats can receive fresh air and more natural interaction. 32

floor plan The original design of the floor plan was derived by the initials of Local Paws “LP”. However, the highest priority of the floor plans was inspired by the local needs and standards of the Humane Society. Each space was thoughtfully designed based on the comfort for both the animals and employees which included incorporating three separate entries. Which provides adoptive parents clear direction to the type of animal they would like to adopt, also giving animals their own piece of the floor plan. 36

biophilia design Alluvial conveys the feeling of an oasis. With minimal or maximum changes, the design is adaptable for any space. This is auspiciously done by incorporating Biophilic Design. The focal point of the design was highly inspired by Complexity & Order. The application of fractural patterns in nature was used throughout the floor and ceiling, resembling the organic movement of sand. In addition to the patterns are the rich, warm, earth tone, fabrics, wood textures, and greenery connecting materials with nature, and ultimately offering the feeling of refuge. 50

design - partial renovation Both the partial and full renovation successfully convey the feeling of an oasis. With minimal or maximum changes, the design is adaptable for any space. The partial renovation includes a completely new interior without the movement of walls.

AFTERCARE CENTER & HEALTH CLINIC operation underground railroad

O.U.R Aftercare Center & Health Clinic in Kampala, Uganda is a community built of support and healing, enriched with authentic Ugandan culture and inspired by the native fauna, this center is designed to feel like home. The footprint of this design was influenced by one of the mother nature’s most magnificent patterns, the giraffe. Like the spots of a giraffe the caretakers and survivors come together as their own unique individual to create a symbiotic whole, because together we are strong.

“Art will never be able to exist without nature” - Pierre Bonnard Utah’s outdoor escapes are as diverse as they are spectacular. From the Wasatch Mountain Range all the way down to the red rocks of Lake Powell, Utah is filled with nature’s most extraordinary artwork. Inspired by four contrasting environments, the Wasatch Mountain Range, Bonneville Salt Flats, Little Sahara, and Arches National Park, this project seeks to feature abstractions for a sustainable rug collection. Featuring the diversity of these four landscapes, each rug design was conducted thoughtfully through the study of science, understanding of history, and personal involvement. This was accomplished by engaging in field studies within each location, visiting museums, reading personal stories, and examining the distinctive surroundings through photography and memory. Encompassing the importance of protecting our environment to sustain the natural beauty that surrounds us, extensive research was conducted for the collection to consist of renewable, recyclable, and bio-based products.

NOELANI

D U R KA N D SC VR STUD ENT COM PETITION

Noelani (noh-eh-lah-nee) is a beautiful abstraction of the everyday adversities in life. This design is made up of three materials, each holding profound meanings. The concrete texture with small surface cracks shows in a deeper sense that even the strongest individuals have their breaking points. The dark blue layer portrays a mist which is known to obscure one’s view bringing a lack of clarity, insight, or knowledge. All of which we endure within our lifetime. As for the splotches, they may seem like random moments in life, however, each moment is carefully constructed to form one’s path. All these adversities that each person experiences, at the time may seem unpleasant, yet together they create a beautiful work of art. The aweinspiring design of Noelani is adaptable to all spaces such as a large ballroom, or a statement piece within a lobby. It is dynamic and adds both energy and style in more private areas such as a hotel or conference room.

*Awarded Kravet Design of Distinction Award Kosi meaning “to heal”, was inspired by the O.U.R organization. Representing this organization the rug includes an abstract human figure revolving around the perimeter to create a geometric pattern symbolizing individuals coming together as one. As for the shape, it represents the hand-woven baskets crafted by the native women of Uganda. For the final touch I decided to bring in a piece that is recognizable to the country, such as the zebra pattern. 80

Patel Residence The Patel family wanted a transitional, cozy, and design striking basement design. The exisiting floor plan was reconfigured to comfortably fit three bedrooms, a powder bath, bathroom, media room, storage, and bonus room. Through elevations and material mood boards, the design was developed and presented to the client.
