Dear Auxiliary Members and Friends, Time goes by. I can’t believe it has been nearly two years since Deb Van Walsum handed over the reins as President of the Auxiliary of Emerson Health to me. It has been both my pleasure and privilege to serve. But now, I am ready to do the same. At our Annual Meeting on October 26, Liza Carey will officially become the leader of this great organization.
Liza is devoted to community involvement, and has volunteered with many organizations, including the Concord Museum, Trustees of Reservations, and Concord Carlisle Community Chest, where she served on the Board for eight years, and was president for two. But most importantly, Liza has a deep connection to Emerson, where she serves on the Emerson Health Foundation Board and has been a Corporator for many years.
She is well equipped to continue the Auxiliary’s mission and expand the work we do, so that we can continue to play a vital role in helping set Emerson apart from other health organizations. The course that Liza, and all of us at the Auxiliary, will be setting in these next few months will be designed to put us on track for the next 100 years.
As most of you know, in 2024 we will celebrate the Auxiliary’s first 100 years of contributions to Emerson Health. Plans are in the works to share our history with a larger audience through a series of events and activities, all of which we hope will culminate in a one-of-a-kind celebration. As plans solidify, I look forward to sharing more details with you.
When I look back over the last two years, I am so proud of all that we have accomplished. We have raised more than $166,547 for Emerson’s patients and staff. In just this past year, our annual Tree of Lights raised over $8,000 for Pediatric Care, EmerSong, returned to the stage and raised close to $20,000 for Behavioral Health, and the golf tournament raised $68,000.
Additionally, and in spite of the degree of difficulty that COVID presented, we were able to continue our involvement in – and planning of – community activities and events, such as the Concord Museum’s Family Trees. We also decked the hospital’s lobby with our annual holiday tree – featuring (naturally) Auxiliary-themed ornaments, hosted virtual book exchanges and community education events for adults, and provided crafting opportunities for children.
And in the last two years, our Aux Rox team, helmed by its indefatigable Captain, Denise Haartz, has raised more than $78,000 at the Emerson Health Annual Run~Walk for Cancer Care.
With so much to celebrate, I am looking forward to seeing many of you at our Annual Meeting on October 26th, at the Concord Country Club, from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. What is particularly exciting, is that it will be held in-person for the first time in four years. As in “before times”, the meeting will include a luncheon, guest speaker, and presentation of our annual check to Emerson Health.
Finally, please consider whom you might know that would like to get involved and give back, make new friends, and find community. The Auxiliary is open to all who wish to participate. We support our community by enhancing the patient experience, increasing awareness of hospital services, hosting programs that inform and educate, and funding important initiatives to enhance care.
PAST 3 YEARS IN REVIEW For the Birthing Center, 8 recliners were purchased. Halo Sleep Sacks are given to newborns to keep them warm and allow safe sleeping without loose blankets. The No Sun for Babies Campaign with Impact Melanoma offered backpacks containing UPF-rated baby clothing and preventative skinawareness information to new parents.
