A proud city which has found strength in adversity, Budapest has so many unique qualities, making it a truly wonderful place to explore. From eclectic architecture to natural hot springs, there is something to suit every interest. Formerly two separate cities divided by the Danube, both certainly possess their own personalities, with Buda to the west and Pest to the east.

On the German and Austrian border, the picturesque Bavarian town of Passau is nicknamed the ‘Three Rivers City’, as the meeting point of the Danube, Ilz and Inn rivers.

Overlooking the city, the 13th century Veste Oberhaus is now home to a museum, hostel and restaurant, while Passau Old Town is recognised for its beautiful Baroque architecture, namely St. Stephen’s Cathedral with its onion-domed towers and an organ boasting over 17,000 pipes.

Buda’s narrow, winding streets and steep hills are home to beautiful Buda Castle. Head to the neighbouring Fisherman’s Bastion for unrivalled views of the magnificent Parliament Building. Rotterdam

Starting life in the Swiss Alps, the Rhine is western Europe’s second-largest river, flowing through Austria, France and Germany, before reaching the Netherlands and ending its journey in the North Sea. Nicknamed the ‘romantic Rhine’, miles of lush green terraces bloom with working vineyards producing delicious varietals, while fortresses take pride of place atop rocky outcrops, symbolic of their once vital role in protecting their land.

Travel through ‘the heart of Europe’, abundant with UNESCO World Heritage-listed sites, exploring the beautiful communities and witnessing some its most historic locations and landmarks. Forged by its proximity to the North Sea, Rotterdam has a rich seafaring heritage and is proud to have the largest port in Europe. The Main River is the longest tributary of the Rhine, flowing through the German states of Bavaria, Baden-Württemburg and Hesse. Part of the inland waterway link between the North Sea and the Black Sea, it navigates its way through Würzburg, Mainz, Wiesbaden and Frankfurt providing many opportunities to witness authentically German architecture and thriving wine-producing vineyards.

Wiesbaden The capital of the western German state of Hesse, this beautiful spa town was historically the playground for renowned creatives and royalty alike. Translated to mean ‘meadow baths’ Wiesbaden has a long heritage of spa and wellness, enticing visitors eager to experience its 14 hot springs.

The city promises a feast of architectural splendour, from the towering neo-Gothic Marktkirche, to the neo-Classical, Art Nouveau Kurhaus and the breathtaking Russian Orthodox St. Elizabeth Church, celebrated for its five golden domes.

Würzburg A popular starting point for an exploration along Germany’s Romantic Road, Würzburg itself looks as though it has been plucked from a fairytale. This Bavarian spectacle is positioned along the Main River, in the heart of the Franconian wine country, where their red and white wines are uniquely served in special round bottles.

Known for its southern German flair and Franconian hospitality, Würzburg’s silhouette is dominated by an eclectic mix of architectural styles. Quaint and picturesque, Rüdesheim is one of the principal destinations of the beloved Rheingau, a district of the Rhineland whose exquisite natural beauty and year-round mild climate have earned it the affectionate moniker of the German Riviera.

Moselle River

A fantastic way to experience the best of Germany, and popular with wine lovers, the Moselle is a truly stunning choice for a river cruise. Its varied culture and unspoilt nature make for a captivating backdrop as you sail between medieval towns. In fact, the Romans planted the very first vines along the riverbank back in the 1st century, creating vineyards that are still being enjoyed to this day.
