Jess Blackford has joined British Horse Feeds (BHF) and The Golden Paste Company (GPCo) as area sales representative for the south-west. She was previously an equine territory manager at supplement and probiotic manufacturer Protexin for nine years. An equine sports science graduate from Bristol University, Jess has owned and ridden horses for many years. She’s also a keen runner, having completed three London Marathons. BHF and GPCo are the equine and pet divisions of North Yorkshire based feed manufacturer I’Anson Brothers.
Ned Flaxman (pictured), general manager of Norbrook Laboratories, was re-elected chair of NOAH (National Office of Animal Health) at the association’s AGM in July. Caitrina Oakes (Vetoquinol) was re-elected as past chair, and Matthew Frost (Elanco) as treasurer. Three new vicechairs were elected: Andrew Buglass (Eco Animal Health), Oya Canbas (Zoetis) and Charlotte Covell (Virbac). Roy Geary (Ceva) and John Toole (Beaphar) were elected to the NOAH Board of Management.
Model and TV presenter Jodie Kidd has become a director of the All England Jumping Course at Hickstead. Jodie’s godfather was the late Douglas Bunn who founded the Sussex showground in 1960. She is pictured here with his daughter Daisy Bunn.
Well-known saddlery industry couple Nikki Newcombe and David Rollinson were married on 3 July at Forter Castle in the Scottish Highlands. The couple both work at Bliss of London where David oversees production and Nikki manages the business.
Mike Mills has joined Henry Bell Wild Bird Care’s national network of sales agents. He’s taking the brand to country stores and garden centres across Kent plus East and West Sussex. Mike is already very busy. “It certainly helps that Henry Bell’s stock availability is so good; delivery times are brilliant and it’s a nice company to work with,” he says. Mike set up his own business, Mills Agencies, earlier this year. Mike lives in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, with his wife and three children. When not working, he enjoys time with his family and catching a good movie.
The Spillers brand’s equine clinical nutrition specialist Pat Harris has been ranked 192th among the world’s best scientists in the field of animal science and veterinary. Ranked at 20th in UK, she is the sole equineonly scientist on the list, making her the top ranked scientist working just on horses in this country. The rankings are from Research.com, an academic platform for researchers.

Samantha Wills-Berriman was the top overall student in a series of exams for sales people who represent animal health companies. Samantha, who works for Norbrook, was presented with her prize at the NOAH (National Office of Animal Health) Summer Event in July. Second place went to Emma Sillwood, also from Norbrook, with Steven Weir from Zoetis and Laura Little of Elanco in joint third. The exams, hosted and accredited by Harper Adams University, lead to the NCAH qualification which indicates that reps can provide accurate and ethical information to prescribers and re-sellers of animal medicines. The Society of Master Saddlers (SMS) has thanked its CEO Hazel Morley for 30 years’ loyal service. Hazel joined the SMS as a part-time admin assistant to the then chief executive, Tony Russell. When Tony died in 2002, Hazel became executive secretary for two years, before taking on her current role. Hazel is a great colleague and friend, says former SMS president Frances Roche: “She saved me from a near breakdown when we were setting up the bridle fitting qualification with City and Guilds. Sensing I was snowed under, Hazel came to my house to finish writing the documents. She even cooked me a meal.” Hazel, who last year was awarded a Fellowship of the SMS, is pictured with another former president, Chris Taylor.
