BIOTOPE

A micro environment engineered as part of a built environment. QBG Biotope encourgaes biodiversity and responds to water sensitivity.

GREEN ROOF

Vegetated rooftop system that helps reduce heat gain, manage stormwater, and improve insulation. It also supports urban biodiversity and contributes to the aesthetic and environmental performance of buildings, not to mention a unique contextual feature.

PERMEABLE

QBG employs a permeable paver parking lot with embedded crushed bluestone aggregate. Parking islands are lled with native, low maintenance, drought tolerant vegetation. Temperatures are lower on the parking surface, retention of rain water improved, use of fossil fuel diminished.

APIARY

QBG deploys Italian/Carnolian honey bees as part of a small apiculture repair program on property. The hives are positioned behind a fence in the middle of the site, leading up to the Administration building. The program helps establish new pollinators within the local ecosystem and improve oral blooms.

PAVERS

Pavers born from recycled aggregates and set in beds of similar materials avoid the wet-set technique in Portland-based cement products, lowering the sites carbon footprint. Not to mention, this masonry assembly survives cold winters better and is much simpler to repair.
