INTERLOCK HOUSE

The Social Services District of New York State has issued a design prompt to all NYS Engineers and Architects. As a response to a shortage in Supportive Housing for underage youths, designers are asked to conceptualize a modern structure, with prefrab construction principles. The initiative looks to create regenerative aethetics within the Supportive Housing sector for troubled youths; architecture that inspires healing. Interlock House uses two distinct material forms--concrete and

timber--as

a

means

to

display

the

structures

undertone:

one-supporting-the-other. Secluded private bedrooms are balanced by expansive, light filled communal spaces. Modern design is paired with the warmth of Mid Century bio-functionalism to create a sense of both invitation and .
