When we hone in to just one of the relationships found in nature, the symbiosis between butterflies and flowers, we can learn valuable lessons.

Butterflies and flowers work together to mutually flourish. By mirroring butterflies’ and flower’s visual qualities through imagery, there lies a focuses on symbiotic relationships between creatives, reflecting the importance of collaboration for people in the industry to flourish.

Through collaboration beauty is formed, in nature and in the creative indusrty.

Danielle has loved butterflies since she was a little girl, she would watch them play in the yard with a close loved one, who she later lost. When saying goodbye to them a butterfly landed on her, staying a while and from then Danielle has found a strong spiritual meaning within butterflies. She found peace in searching for their beauty, and peace of mind when pinning butterflies to frame. She can not wait to keep on preserving them and sharing their beauty and story.

One creative person’s love and passion for the work they do has the power to help others create beautiful work. Through collaboration, relationships in the art and design industry are made to flourish.

The most important aspect of this collection of work is collaboration. This project utilised and explored the talents of three different makeup artists, five fashion designers, five models and two different nail artists, working in professional studios. This project’s underlying theme of butterflies was supported by a local business, preserving and framing unique insects. The expertise of two florists and the love from two family nurseries provided this project with stunning florals. The process of collaborating with these talents and small businesses was the most vital aspect in this exploration of symbiotic relationships.

The Common Nawab

The coat featured in this body of work is by designer Catherine Shamoon. It is part of her “Delicate Forms” collection that takes inspiration from the fragile nature of a butterfly. Each look in this transeasonal collection features curved line work and shaping inspired by the stages of a butterfly’s metamorphosis from caterpillar, to cocoon, to taking flight. This coat in particular represents the butterfly’s cocoon through the process of taking one of the insects natural forms and turning it into a fashion silhouette.
