Centred on the overture of Jean-Marie Leclair’s opera Scylla et Glaucus, arranged for trio sonata by the composer himself, this album constitutes the instrumental counterpart of the composer’s only vocal work, the performance of which, by Les Nouveaux Caractères, will be released at the same time on the Alpha Classics label.

With this opus, the ensemble, already well experienced in the performance of operas and musical forms of theatrical inspiration on period instruments, offers us a delicate, sensitive journey into instrumental music under Louis XV. These sonatas and character pieces for violin and continuo or for two violins without bass by the same Leclair, are coupled with works by leading composers of the time: Antoine Forqueray, Joseph-NicolasPancrace Royer, Joseph Bodin de Boismortier, and JeanBaptiste Barrière. A disc subtly combining dynamism and refinement of interpretation, not to be missed!
