If you have scrolled through Instagram in the last decade or so, chances are you have seen at least one hilarious post by @TheFatJewish in your feed. In 2011, Josh Ostrovsky set up an Instagram account under this moniker, attracting millions of followers – as of January 2023, it was around 10 million followers only on Instagram –, compelled by a combination of irreverent humor, self-deprecation, and, of course, tons of memes. In 2015, TIME magazine named him one of the most influential people on the internet.
But Ostrovsky is more than an internet celebrity. He is also a thirsty entrepreneur – in 2019, his wine company, Swish Beverages, was purchased by AB InBev, making it the largest investment in wine to date by Budweiser’s parent company – and, above all, a family man.
Josh Ostrovsky and Caitlin King got married in November 2019 in a private ceremony at the top of Tower Butte, a massive land formation that sits near Lake Powell in Arizona. On the occasion, King shared photos from their ceremony on Instagram, which she said included “just us and a Native American shaman woman.”
As reported by PEOPLE’s magazine, Ostrovsky proposed to King in October of that year at Disneyland, an experience that she shared on social media: “Omg how did he pop the question?? Well, he made me go on a high-octane rollercoaster, botched the trans- fer onto my finger during a sharp turn so the ring went flying off the ride, I had an emotional crying/snotting meltdown and went OFF on him, then he pulled out the actual ring because the first one was a replica he had made and revealed that the entire thing was a setup because he thinks he’s hilarious and then he asked me for real and I said yes and now I’m deeply traumatized but also incredibly happy (I think. This whole thing was a gigantic red flag)”, she posted.
Ostrovsky and Caitlin moved from Hibiscus Island to Miami Shores in 2021, when their only child, Buddy Kobe King – “a gigantic two-year-old who can eat an entire personal pan pizza in one sitting”, as they described – was born. “The Shores is the best place in Miami, no doubt. Cool people who take their Halloween/ Christmas front lawn setups seriously, sick Mid-Century homes with terrazzo floors, incredible trees, and a Carrot Express, all located 10 blocks from a store where you can buy a Haitian voodoo doll to take revenge on your enemies. It’s unparalleled”, said Ostrovsky.
To celebrate Valentine’s Day, the couple loves what they call “a high/low evening”: “We will start the night with a few drinks at Happy’s in North Bay Village, a dive bar that is pitch black inside and smells absolutely insane, then do a gorgeous dinner at The Surf Club.”
Ostrovsky remembers one year that Valentine’s “almost” went wrong. “I lit like 100 candles and put on “Pony” by Ginuwine and tried to give her a lap dance, but immediately strained a muscle in my thigh because I’m not athletic, then we had to apply ice and I couldn’t walk and we ended up staying in, ordering Thai food, and watching ‘Chocolat’ with Juliette Binoche. So it worked out”, he said.
If you need more reasons to believe that comedians are not just un-serious funny guys with no romance, Ostrovsky says he is also an ordained minister who has officiated at least ten wedding ceremonies, including a spontaneous wedding at Nikki Beach, in Miami, in 2017.

To complete this article, we asked The Fat Jewish how would he illustrate a romantic Valentine’s Day, to which he responded with a meme and this text: “I’m a big fan of the guy on the subway in New York heading to meet his Valentine with a dozen roses and a piping hot Little Caesar’s Pizza. That’s romance”, he said. We could only reply with a heart emoji!
