The El Paso Fire Department falls under City Goal 2: A Safe and Secure City. The department ensures this through an effective response force capable of mitigating all hazard types. The El Paso Fire Department is the primary city agency responsible for fire incidents, medical emergencies, aircraft emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, building explosions, search and rescue events, and water rescues. All of these services are delivered by fire service professionals, apparatus and equipment from thirty-five neighborhood fire stations and one airport fire station at the El Paso International Airport. Eight support facilities include the administrative offices, maintenance, fire prevention, training academy, communications, emergency operations center, reserve center and Safety and Health Outreach Center (SHOC). The El Paso Fire Department oversees the operations of the Office of Emergency Management, which provides planning, training, outreach, coordination, and emergency notification services to the community and regional partners to prevent, prepare, respond, and recover from disasters and large scale emergencies. The El Paso Fire Department oversees the 911 Communications center, being the first point of contact for all emergency events.

The El Paso Fire Department oversees Animal Services and the Department of Public Health, working hand in hand to promote a safe and secure city.
