El Paso County is incredibly important to our nation. The county is home to 5 crucial military installations, from the prestigious United States Airforce Academy to Fort Carson. ABOUT THE ROLE COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR Appointed by a 5-member Board of County Commissioners, the County Administrator acts as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of El Paso County, and serves at the pleasure of the Board. The County Administrator leads, inspires, motivates, and engages Senior Executive Leaders and staff to implement and complement the strategic vision set by the Board. The County Administrator also advises the Board as needed, in a manner that instills trust, cultivates respect, balances community interests, and enhances the reputation of the organization. As the CEO of a high impact organization, the County Administrator also plays a crucial community role, engaging stakeholders with credibility to maintain excellent local and regional partnerships. The County Administrator oversees a $450 million budget, 2,800 employees, and champions open, transparent, and innovative government.

Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, political science, or related field.

Minimum of five (5) years experience in a senior Executive position; ten (10) years experience preferred. Other relevant experience may be substituted.

Three (3) years public administration experience as an administrator/director of a city, county, or other governmental agency preferred.

Extensive knowledge of and practical experience in public administration with particular emphasis in government administration, including the basic principles of organization, management, personnel, procurement, economic development, facilities management.

Extensive knowledge of complex government or other large scale budget operations.

Extensive knowledge of research methods and techniques used to assemble, organize, and present statistical, financial, or factual information derived from a variety of sources. Ability to effectively prepare and present reports.

Knowledge of the laws, regulations, and other requirements governing public jurisdictions.

Thorough knowledge of modern business methods, practices, and trends.

Ability to delegate authority and responsibility, as well as maintain an effective organization. Ability to organize, direct, and coordinate the activities of others.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Elected Officials, independent County Boards, Executive Directors, employees, and the general public.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, and drug screen.
