or the first time in American history, the election of the vice president is more historic than the election of the president. Kamala Harris is the 2020 vice president elect for the United States. In her victory speech on Saturday, Kamala Harris spoke of her mother and the generations of women of all races who paved the way for this moment. “While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last,” she told a cheering and honking audience in Delaware “Because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities.” Mrs. Harris, the daughter of an Indian mother and Jamaican father, has risen higher in the country’s leadership than any woman ever before her. Mrs. Harris will become not only the first woman, but the first woman of color to hold the office of vice president, a milestone for the United States. She is a symbol of future of the growing racial and gender representation in the United States government. Her husband, Douglas
already surpassed the necessary 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency. With his win, he will become the oldest elected president at 77 years old. In addition, President-elect Biden won more popular votes than any other presidential candidate in U.S. history, with more than 74 million votes. “America, I’m honored that Emhoff, will make history in his own right as the first second gentleman. A former San Francisco district attorney, she was elected as the first Black woman to serve as California’s attorney general. When she was elected a United States senator in 2016, she became only the second Black woman in the chamber’s history. Harris went from that to being the first Black person, the first South Asian American and the first woman to serve as vice president. Of course, with her bi-racial background, Harris has had to walk a fine line throughout her political career. Throughout the campaign trail, and especially During her debate with vice President Mike Pence, she had to constantly overcome the Trump campaign’s petty attempts to paint her as an “angry Black woman.” But with every new ceiling that gets shattered, being a woman and proud means something different. In the highest rungs of government, Obama got to define the last chapter. Harris will get to define the next one.

For days, Americans watched the polls in anticipation. The tide shifted when President-elect Biden won Nevada and Pennsylvania, catapulting him into the Oval Office. Biden’s victory closes the book on the Trump-era in D.C., making Trump the first single term president since George H.W.Bush in 1992.

n Nov. 3, the 2020 Presidential election took place, as expected President Trump did not take the results well or like any other candidate that’s participated in a presidential election. As soon as the election results began to come in Trump started to tweet false information. Claiming that he had already won certain states, attacking now president elect Joe Biden’s campaign and the biggest tantrum was when it came to suspected election fraud. Trump’s false accusations began on his twitter account, shortly after being attacked by citizens and the media for his false claims. Twitter took it upon themselves to research the claims that were being made and flagged them as “misleading information about an election or other civic process.” Trump was upset at the actions twitter took and later on went on national tv and spoke on the election outcome and how the presidency was being taken from him and his supporters.. As he spoke nothing but fraud claims were being made and many major news
networks such as ABC, NBC and CBS decided to stop broadcasting his news conference. News networks decided to start correcting President Trump on all he mentioned instead of broadcasting misleading information. MSNBC cut away from Trump to anchor Brian Williams. “Here we are again in the unusual position of not only interrupting the president of the United States but correcting the president of the United States,” he said. “There are no illegal votes that we know of, there has been no Trump victory that we know of.” Shortly after ABC cut Trump off the air, White House correspondent for the network Jonathan Karl commented on President Trump’s histeria mentioning “What he seems to be frustrated by is ... that it takes time to count votes,” Karl said. “It’s always taken time to count votes. But especially in this election.” It’s officially been 6 days since election night occurred and one night since President elect Joe Biden was officially announced the 46th President of the United States and the false accusations without reliable sources continues to be spread by Trump and his supporters.

ust before midnight on Halloween, President Donald Trump emailed White House correspondents a proclamation declaring Nov. 1 the “National Day of Remembrance for Americans Killed by Illegal Aliens.” Initially believed to be a joke, Trump’s message was followed by an update on the White House website hours later. It’s set on the same day as Día de los Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead. The Mexican holiday honors deceased loved ones and family members through celebrating their lives. The Latino community spread the news on social media and had a mostly negative response. Chicano student Mike Torres said, “ Trump’s holiday is an attack on Mexican culture. It is unfair for someone to create a holiday that singles out and praises specific groups of people.” Trump’s proclamation praises immigration officers and his efforts to build a wall
on the Mexican border. It also accuses elected officials of, “(meeting) the pain and plight of Angel Families with silence and indifference.” “Angel Families” are the families of those killed by illegal immigrants. The proclamation reads,
“I call upon the people of the United States to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.”
President Trump has often depicted illegal immigrants and Latinos as violent criminals. For instance, During a speech in June 2018, he said 63,000 Americans have been killed by illegal immigrants since 9/11. The information was discovered to be a miscalculation of a report done by the Government Accountability Office in 2011.
