Hello! What a year it has been here at the award-winning Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce as President/CEO. The staff has been working behind the scenes to keep things alive and well for our members.

As a Chamber, our enthusiasm to support our local businesses is sometimes beyond belief. The spirit of the Chamber has never slowed to support each sector of the business community. Our staff and board members continue to collaborate with organizations, educators, government offices, and other Ellis County Chambers of Commerce. We are proud to have made a positive impact in our community, with more coming this year!

In one year we have accomplished more connections and are eager to return to the art of creating events and renewing important ones from the past. The Bueiness Expo, Awards Banquet and Leadership Conference are wonderful but we also introduce new ways to connect through our exclusive social media networking group. Strong ideas and promotions have brought our members together by this form of community.

We are in a new year full of possiblities after a soul searching year. We have found new ways to stay relevant to the current workforce and become a Chamber of the future. We remain committed to paying the utmost respect to our past while moving swiftly into the future and we cannot wait to bring you along for the ride!

Our volunteers are committed to the Chamber and the community we serve. We are especially proud of the Green Coats and blessed by the extra efforts they create to allow for us to be even more prominent here in our town. We will continue to be the hardest working, most collaborative, and energetic business alliance working for you.

A Place in Your Heart

W axahachie continues to be a growing and vibrant community, and we are excited for a bright and

promising future. With a healthy annual growth rate of over 5%, equating to us welcoming an average of 170 new residents each month, it is important that we remain proactive in our planning for the City’s future. In addition to anticipating the future, it also imperative that we balance this with not losing sight of the rich history and historic charm that makes Waxahachie unique.

The past year has presented an array of challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to managing the daily operations of running a full-service city, our leaders have also been challenged with the paramount task of keeping our citizens safe while still trying to maintain a quality of life and healthy local economy.

Although balancing these responsibilities during this truly unprecedented time has been challenging, we remain optimistic about the future of our community and continue to plan for it accordingly.

As we embark on another year City leaders are focused on ensuring a positive outlook for Waxahachie through prudent budgeting for and prioritizing the necessities of our growing town. These areas of focus include an increased level of funding for infrastructure improvements, public safety, and quality of life projects in the form of parks enhancements.

Included in the planned infrastructure improvements is the resurfacing of several streets.

Also included is the addition of sidewalks in some of the City’s older and aging neighborhoods, as well as the extension of sidewalks to make key connections between neighborhoods and creating a more pedestrian-friendly community.

Providing adequate funding for police and fire services also remains a high priority, with the addition of new police vehicles and replacement of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (“SCBAs”) for the fire department. Additionally, funds have also been allocated for design on a fourth fire station.

The station will be built in the next few years to continue to provide outstanding emergency service and response times to our growing city.

In recent years, there has been an ongoing effort to expand the City’s park offerings through extending the park network, replacing worn and outdated equipment, and adding new amenities.

One specific area of focus in the coming year is improving and expanding the park restroom facilities. This includes adding new restrooms at Chapman Park (which will also serve trail users of the new Little Creek Trail) and at Lions Park.

Improvements to the septic systems at Boat Dock Park and Spring Park (both located near Lake Waxahachie) will also be implemented.

While these tangible improvements are exciting, perhaps the most important priority at City Hall is to continue to offer excellent customer service to our citizens and remain true stewards of our community. Waxahachie is a special place and it is that way because of our amazing citizens – the true embodiment of the “Hachie Heart” spirit. While each day brings its own challenges, our City has a long history of coming together during difficult times and taking care of our own with a unified spirit. We are truly grateful for our citizens, local leaders, city employees, and local businesses and their steadfastness and perseverance during trying times. We look forward to the future with optimism and anticipate a bright tomorrow for Waxahachie.

Trusted care in Ellis County Methodist Midlothian Medical Center, the first full-service acute care hospital in Midlothian, recently opened and expanded healthcare access to residents in Ellis County. Conveniently located on a 67-acre campus near U.S. 287, the five-story medical center features the latest technology and provides a variety of services for your family. The $175 million facility is the 12th hospital to carry the Methodist Health System name.

Together with independently practicing physicians, the hospital provides a wide range of medical care. Major areas of focus include surgical care, emergency care, women’s services, orthopedics, cardiology, imaging, oncology, and more.

Currently, Methodist Midlothian features 46 licensed beds for inpatient care. However, the hospital also plans to support the projected growth in the region by including shell space for 37 additional beds. This could bring the

hospital to more than 80 licensed beds during its first few years of operation.

The emergency room includes 16 beds and gives residents timely care that’s supported by other hospital services when needed. Through its two operating suites, the hospital is designed to support many surgical procedures—from general surgery to advanced orthopedic care. For some conditions, residents will have minimally invasive surgical options.

Often these less-invasive procedures help speed recovery and get residents back to daily living faster.

In addition to a 200,000-square-foot medical center, Methodist Midlothian’s campus includes a 45,000-square-foot medical office building. By bringing numerous outpatient and inpatient services together on a single campus, Ellis County residents now have one convenient location for quality healthcare services.

“When we increase healthcare access, more residents can get the care they need without having to leave their community, family, or support system,” says Jary Ganske, administrator and vice president of Methodist Midlothian. “We want to give residents the innovative care they deserve close to home.”

By the first full year, the medical center also plans to create 300 new healthcare professional and support staff jobs. This will place it among the top 10 largest employers in the city of Midlothian. As a community hospital, Methodist Midlothian will work with other local organizations to support health needs and enhance community well-being.

“Our new hospital is all about serving the health and wellbeing of our neighbors in the region,” Ganske says.
