Gran Hotel Calzaiuoli is a historic hotel in the center of Florence in Italy and the team of architects of the Saverio Innocenti Project Design Studio, in which I was also a member, took over its rennovation and interior design in a project that began in 2014 and is still in progress, due to the number of the rooms and the fact that the hotel should remain fully functional in every phase of the project.
The project’s main purpose was to rennovate all the interior spaces of the hotel, the rooms, the corridors and the common rooms like restaurants and reception. In our research for the main project idea of the interior design, we decided to use earth colors in the tones of brown, and wooden floors in the rooms in order to create a more friendly and hospitable environment for the clients. Generally, our motive was to create spacious rooms with elegance, class and style trasmitting an air of italian luxury.

In the walls we designed cornices in different dimensions and shapes, in order to create a unique style and atmosfere for each room. The lights chosen have simple modern lines and forms and are placed according the wall cornices and the light needs of each space, but also trying to follow a certain motif.
The furnitures of each room are made of wood and the colors of the fabrics used are similar to those mentioned above, beige, brown and grey tones. The ceiling of some rooms is decorated with paintings in the same colors, directly connecting the hotel rooms with the history, architecture and art of the historic “palazzo” of Florence in which the ceiling paintings are of great importance or even the most important decoration.
