Gowanda Sports Report BY BILL PEGLOWSKI GOWANDA — The Gowanda Varsity baseball team hosted Jamestown on May 10, taking a 13-2 win. Gowanda’s Blake Herman put in four innings on the mound with six strikeouts. He also went 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs and 4 runs including a two-run home run. Drew Shull doubled for Gowanda. The baseball team was at Olean on May 12 for a 13-0 shutout. John Ondus pitched all five innings for Gowanda for the win, delivering 11 strikeouts while giving up just two hits. Leading the Gowanda attack were Tyler Smith (2 doubles, 3 RBIs), Maddox Browning (2 hits, 2 RBIs), John Smuda (a tworun double), Cole Herman (a two-run single) and Alex Pachucinski (2 hits). On May 13, Gowanda had a 5 o’clock non-league home game against Lake Shore followed by an 8 o’clock game against Falconer. In the first game, Gowanda beat Lake Shore 9-4. In the nightcap, the results were even bette,r handing Falconer an 11-3 loss. — Gowanda’s Varsity softball opened their week May 9 with their biggest game of the season at Randolph. Gowanda struck early, grabbing a 2-0 lead after the 1st inning. In the 3rd inning, Randolph took a 3-2 lead. Gowanda matched that 3-run production in the 4th with a Jada Geiger two RBI single, putting Gowanda up 4-3. Geiger went on to score a fifth run for Gowanda on a passed ball. last run to be scored in the game. Pitching the complete game for Gowanda was Addison Kota, giving up just seven singles with six strikeouts and no walks. May 11 found the team at Brocton. Cameron Nagle pitched a shutout with four strikeouts. Meanwhile, the team scored at least single runs in every inning except for the 5th, building to an 11-0 final. Key players for Gowanda on offense were Nagel (1 single, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs), Ella Luther (a double, a triple, 2 RBIs) and Hailey Fort (2 RBIs). The team closed out their week May 13, hosting Silver Creek. After a scoreless 1st inning, Gowanda exploded into a 6-0 lead in the 2nd. Silver Creek’s Amber Lockwood scored in the 3rd inning to bring the score to 6-1 with an RBI credited to Kaylee Hutchison. Following a scoreless 4th inning, Tessa Brun-

ner brought Silver Creek’s total to 2 only to have Gowanda pad their lead with three runs of their own. With the score 9-2 going to the final inning, Gowanda outscored Silver Creek 4-2 for a 13-4 final. Addison Kota had four strikeouts, allowing just four hits pitching for Gowanda. She also accounted for four RBIs. Leading the Gowanda attack was Cameron Nagel with a single, three doubles and a triple along with two RBIs. Gao:wisa:s “Wassy” Stevens, Kota and Jada Geiger each had two hits for the team. The win was Gowanda’s 12th straight since an April loss to Randolph. Gowanda (144) and Randolph (10-2) finish tied for first place at 9-1 in CCAA East 1 play with the playoffs around the corner. — The Gowanda Varsity boys lacrosse team started out the week strong hosting Depew on May 9. in the first quarter, Gowanda scored just 27 seconds into the game and kept Depew from even getting a shot until there was 5:50 left. Depew started to erode the Gowanda lead in the second quarter as the teams exchanged goals with Depew edging Gowanda 4-3. An 8-4 Gowanda halftime lead fell apart in a third quarter where Gowanda only scored once. Depew scored six times in the period to go ahead 10-9. Very tight play in the final quarter saw no scoring for seven minutes before Gowanda finally tied things at 10 with 4:23 left. Just over a minute later, Winter Rivera put Gowanda back in the lead. Logan Lukonaitis scored an insurance goal for the team with the clock showing 1:44. The 12-10 score held to the end of the game. Rivera had five goals for Gowanda and

an assist. With two goals and two assists was Croix Snow. Single Gowanda goals were scored by Ethan Steeprock, Ha’Tsihgahdo:D Stevens, Jessup Stevens, Trelin Warrior and Logan Lukonaitis. On May 10, the team was at Salamanca/Randolph. Gowanda struggled through two consistent halves of play, outscored 12-7 in the first and 12-8 in the second for a 2415 final. Leading scorers for Gowanda were Trelin Warrior (4 goals, 2 assists) and Croix Snow (3 goals, 3 assists. With a pair of goals were Ethan Steeprock (2 goals, 3 assists), Logan Lukonaitis (2 goals, 1 assist) and Ha’Tsihgahdo:D Stevens (2 goals, 1 assist). Winter Rivera and Nakotah Jackson each scored one goal. The team closed out their

week May 12 hosting Medina. It was also Senior Night for the team with Seth Kaminski, Logan Lukonaitis, Dylan Milne, Daymein Beaver and Matthew Waterman being honored before the game. Missing several key players from the line-up, Gowanda was never in the game. Starting out down 2-0, Ha’Tsihgahdo:D Stevens scored Gowanda’s only goal of the game with 3:45 left in the first quarter. Medina answered that goal just 20 seconds later on the way to a 4-1 lead at the end of the quarter. Medina piled on another 10 goals for a 14-1 final. — The Gowanda Varsity girls lacrosse team suffered a 16-3 loss on May 9 at Clarence. They were down 13-1 at halftime as the Clarence lead held through a low-scoring, 3-2 final half. Aurora Stevens had two Gowanda goals with the other goal scored by Chloe Luther, who also had an assist. On May 13, the team hosted Iroquois with Senior Day recognizing seniors Richelis Ricotta, Autumn Nephew, Marit Kuehne and Aaliyah Stevens before the game. Gowanda built a 6-4 lead in the first half. In a more active second half, again Gowanda would outscore Iroquois by two for a 14-10 victory. Chloe Luther led the way for Gowanda with seven goals and an assist. Also scoring for Gowanda were Ke’Ya Stevens (3 goals), Aurora Stevens (2
