Whether you’re in the mood for a fun night on the town or an action-packed day on the slopes, Mardi Gras and Winter Carnival weekend have you covered! Parades, beads, music, contests and, of course, costumes are yours for the taking this weekend as Ellicottville’s biggest family-friendly party of the season returns. You might even think you’re in New Orleans instead of Western New York! It all begins Friday, March 8 with several parties throughout the establishments in downtown Ellicottville along with live bands to get you in the Mardi Gras spirit. Stop by Madigan’s, Ellicottville Brewing Company, Villagio, the Gin Mill, Balloon’s and Finnerty’s Tap room for some great food, beverages and music. Don’t forget your Mardi Gras attire!

Quigley In no time at all the snow will begin to melt and winter sports season in Ellicottville will be over, but don’t fret, as it’s also a place to enjoy outdoor activities all year long. As the temps continue to rise this spring, the warm, sunny weather will be the perfect backdrop for two annual races coming to Holiday Valley. On Saturday, May 11, the Happy Half makes its way to Ellicottville once again with the goal to put a smile on each and every face. The race organizers, who also run the EVL Half and
See Mardi Gras, page 9 5K in the fall, emphasize that they want to help put the fun into running. “Sometimes it is not just about the distance, it is how you get there and what you do after the event,” organizers posted on the Facebook event for the race. The course will feature fun distractions, and at the end, everyone will enjoy entertainment, great food and beer as part of a great party at Holiday Valley. The day’s schedule will feature a Half Marathon, 5K and a Beer Mile for those with iron stomachs. The rolling course heads north through scenic,

More than 20 veterans of the U.S. military took part last Friday, March 1 in the 15th annual Adaptive Ski Program Day at Holiday Valley. Volunteers from the Lounsbury Adaptive Ski Program worked oneon-one with members of the Western New York Veterans Administration Rehabilitation Program on the slopes.
