Holiday Valley hosts Empire State Winter Games torch send-off By Kellen M. Quigley

The annual running of the Empire State Winter Games torch got its start Sunday in Ellicottville on the way to Lake Placid for the event’s opening ceremony. At Holiday Valley Jan. 27, snowboarder Grace Dalton had the honor of taking the torch on the ride of its life, carving down the Yodeler slope with torch in hand as the kick off to the relay. Take part in Mountain Ski Fest on Feb. 8 By Kellen M. Quigley With winter in full swing, temperatures low and snow blowing, February is a great time to experience some outdoor fun at Holiday Valley. On Feb. 8, Mountain Ski Fest will entail a day full of skiing, snowboarding, activities and camaraderie for skiers or riders. What was formerly Mountain Man Day, now all are invited to the fun of Ski Fest. Starting at 8 a.m. and lasting late into the afternoon, Ski Fest includes ski and snowboard demo equipment from local shops, recreational racing, breakfast, lunch and beer and wine and tastings.

MacQueen recognized as Outstanding Nordic Patroller at reception By Deb Everts

Mary MacQueen, who serves as patrol director and instructor for the Allegany State Park (ASP) Nordic Ski Patrol, was honored at a reception at the Red House Administration Building, Jan. 26. On behalf of the over 28,000 members of the National Ski Patrol (NSP) System, the event officially recognized her as she was presented with the National Ski Patrol’s “National Outstanding Nordic Patroller for 2018” award.
