Catchy Comedy binges on ‘The Honeymooners’

“The Honeymooners” is one of the all-time-classic sitcoms, but it ran for only one season (1955-56) and 39 episodes. Still, that’s enough for Catchy Comedy to build one of its all-day Sunday “Binges” around it, and the network will do so on Oct. 5 (continuing into early the next morning). Actually, a six-hour chunk of the day will consist of related installments of star Jackie Gleason’s later CBS variety program that had “Honeymooners” connections, but there still will be a bounty of the original show to satisfy any fan. Gleason plays Ralph Kramden, the blustery New York bus driver who yearns for a better life, prompting him to hatch numerous cash-in-quick schemes with his friend and neighbor Ed Norton (Art Carney). Ralph’s wife Alice (Audrey Meadows) tries to humor his ideas, though sarcasm often gets the better of her — with her wisecracks inspiring his iconic phrase, “To the moon, Alice!”. Joyce Randolph also stars as Ed’s spouse Trixie. Many TV historians have noted that much of this show’s premise inspired “The Flint-

“Hocus Pocus” (Freeform, Sunday, Oct. 5, Tuesday, Oct. 7, Thursday, Oct. 9 and Saturday, Oct. 11): The number of times this Disney attraction is being shown this month affirms what a Halloween-season staple it is. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy star in the 1993 fantasy-comedy as sibling witches who cause havoc in contemporary Salem, Mass., with several youngsters (Omri Katz, Vinessa Shaw, Thora Birch) among their prime targets. The three lead actresses were reunited in a sequel almost 30 years later, and that’s also getting several Freeform show-
