John Travolta certainly had the moves in the late 1970s, literally as well as professionally. He already had stardom from his television role as Vinnie Barbarino

“Welcome Back, Kotter” when his fame shot into the stratosphere with “Saturday Night Fever.” Paramount+ is currently streaming the iconic 1977 movie that casts the actor as Tony Manero, a dance-obsessed young man who regularly displays his talent at a Brooklyn disco where he’s acknowledged as the king of the floor. The prospect of winning a contest there prompts him to enlist the upwardly mobile Stephanie (Karen Lynn Gorney) as his partner, and despite their personal dissimilarities, they grow closer as they practice for the big event. Another huge element of the film is the music score largely fueled by Bee Gees tunes including “Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever” and “How Deep Is Your Love,” which resulted in one of the best-selling soundtrack albums of all time. The picture was so popular, it was edited down from its original “R”-rated version to a “PG” edition, so that younger viewers could see it.
