Henry Hill (Ray Liotta) is a young man growing up in the New York mob during the 1950s. As he rises through the ranks he becomes seduced by the money and drugs, ultimately unraveling his success and forcing him into the witness protection program. From director Martin Scorsese, 1990’s “Goodfellas” airs on AMC this Saturday, June 21. To enjoy the film’s original trailer, Liotta, Scorsese and film fans alike can check out youtube.com/watch?v=2ilzidi_J8Q

Hosted by Henry Winkler, this new series takes a trip back down memory lane, to a childhood that was far more reckless than we see today. Winkler discusses outrageous (and sometimes radioactive) toys from the past, daredevil playground antics, explosive science experiments, cigarettes and more in each nostalgia-and-laugh-filled episode of “Hazardous History with Henry Winkler,” making its debut on History this Sunday, June 15. The fun starts in the series’ trailer, available at youtube.com/watch?v=cWeg_nC5D6A

Al Pacino has a ‘Dog Day’ in true

heist drama

Director Sidney Lumet had a great run of critical and popular successes in the 1970s, and one of them surely was “Dog Day Afternoon,” which Turner Classic Movies shows Saturday, June 21, as the bottom half of a “Two for One” double feature selected by guest co-host Steve Buscemi. Lumet had also worked with Pacino two years earlier on “Serpico,” and they reunited for the fact-inspired 1975 drama that details an attempted bank robbery in Brooklyn, New York, by two amateurs played by Pacino and his earlier “Godfather” co-star John Cazale. Their plan goes south almost from the start as their intended cohort flees the scene, then police show up in force (led by the characters portrayed by James Broderick and Charles Durning). The robbers gradually get to know their hostages well and become folk heroes to much of the public that’s watching the situation unfold, either on site or via television, making for true suspense as the crooks try to engineer a getaway. Chris Sarandon and Lance Henriksen also appear in the film, which earned an Oscar for Frank Pierson’s screenplay.

“Commando” (Hulu, streaming): After the success of “The Terminator,” every Hollywood executive wanted to be on the Arnold Schwarzenegger bandwagon, and this 1985 adventure also was a huge hit as one of his first follow-ups. The star plays the excellently named John Matrix, a Special Forces veteran whose young daughter (Alyssa Milano) is kidnapped by enemies who want to force him to commit an assassination. That is one big
