Just when he thought he was out, they pulled him back in. After more than three years since its last season, “Ted Lasso” returns to Apple TV for its fourth season Wednesday, Aug. 5. The first installment of the 10-episode season drops on premiere day with new episodes available to stream weekly. The titular coach, portrayed by “Saturday Night Live” alum Jason Sudeikis, whose contagious eternal optimism forever changed the fictional English Premier League team AFC Richmond before he headed back home to Kansas City, Missouri, in last season’s finale, dusts off his “believe” poster for a different coaching gig. Ted is back in Richmond upon Thames and in the AFC Richmond facilities, but he’s not coaching the team audiences have grown to love throughout the show’s first three seasons. With the “Richmond

Way” chapter now closed, the show was due for a twist. The series gives Ted a new opportunity this season with the club’s fledgling Division 2 women’s team. Club owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham, “Sex Education”) is in need of a coach for her latest expansion of the Greyhounds and Ted is just the man for the job. Per Apple TV, “in Season 4, Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”

By Ted’s side as always is Coach Willis Beard (Brendan Hunt, “Bless This Mess”) and a new, as-yet-unnamed addition to the coaching staff, portrayed by “The Other Bennet Sister” star Tanya Reynolds. Other returning cast members include Juno Temple (“Fargo”) as PR wiz Keeley Jones; Brett

Goldstein (“Shrinking”) as gruff retired footballer Roy Kent; Jeremy Swift (“All Creatures Great & Small”) as the nervous but lovable director of operations Leslie Higgins; and Annette Badland (“Run Away”) as stern pub landlady Mae Green.

There has been a considerable amount of time between the third season of “Ted Lasso” and the upcoming new episodes. However, not much time has passed in the show since we saw the characters last. Understandably, there’s been a recast of Ted’s son Henry, now portrayed by Grant Feely (“Obi-Wan Kenobi”). “Lord of the Flies” actor Gus Turner previously portrayed the role of Henry. Character details are under wraps for now, but an official teaser trailer for the new season offers up a peek into what is in store. In February, Waddingham spoke to Deadline about the new season focusing on “our Lady Greyhounds,” expressing her admiration of the show, saying, “I love it. I love Rebecca Welton, my character, and the writing is so magnificent. Jason Sudeikis and the writers room, it’s like a finely tuned machine. And the life lessons that you realize that they’re just tipping in here and there, it’s brilliant.”

“One Hundred Years of Solitude”Part Two (Aug. 5)

Continuing an adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s eponymous novel, this return to Macondo sees the twin sons of Arcadio (Janer Villareal) taking differing paths. While Aureliano (Jeronimo Baron Lyentsov) marries a mysterious newcomer and tries for an heir, Jose (Edgar Vittorino) loses himself in his ancestor’s manuscripts, hoping to connect Macondo with the rest of the world.

“Alley Cats” (Aug. 7)

While they might be the furthest thing from aristocrats, these foul-mouthed feral cats sure have a lot to say about society. Led by Gus — a lazy cat who’s convinced he’s smarter, braver and bolder than everyone else — a scrappy crew of felines face the trials and tribulations of everyday life, dialing up the drama when things get hairy. Ricky Gervais, Kerry Godliman, Jo Hartley, Diane Morgan and Natalie Cassidy star in this animated comedy.

This hit sports documentary series has been offering unprecedented access to the league’s key players since the 2022 season, highlighting career-defining moments in the lives of Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs), Marcus Mariota (Atlanta Falcons), Kirk Cousins (Las Vegas Raiders), Joe Burrow (Cincinnati Bengals) and Jared Goff (Detroit Lions).

The third season of this docuseries follows quarterbacks Jayden Daniels, Baker Mayfield, Cam Ward and Joe Flacco as they tackle the 2025 NFL season — both on and off the field. While playing for the Washington Commanders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans and Cincinnati Bengals, respectively, they find themselves in the midst of injuries, trades, expanding families and more.

For Daniels, it’s only his second season in the league. In 2024, Daniels was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, but after a historic debut season, the pressure, attention and momentum are “all dialed up” in 2025, according to Netflix.

Further south, Mayfield begins his third season with the Buccaneers. Throughout the year,

The final two players featured in Season 3 — Ward and Flacco — share nearly opposite storylines, as a 24-year-old Ward begins his rookie season with a fresh perspective while 41-year-old Flacco begins his 18th season in the NFL, leaving the Cleveland Browns to play for their divisional rival Cincinnati Bengals. As someone who’s “been in the NFL almost as long as Ward has been alive” (per Netflix), Flacco, a former Super Bowl MVP, must build new relationships and learn a fresh playbook — all while balancing fatherhood.

Michael Keaton makes a surprising ‘Batman’

When director Tim Burton announced that Michael Keaton would be his “Batman” in the 1989 movie take on the comic-book-originated saga, fans of the characters were up in arms, given that Keaton had been known primarily for comedic work previously. Many skeptics became believers, though, upon the release of the adventure that Cinemax presents on Wednesday, Aug. 5 (along with several of the other “Batman” films). In Burton’s dark vision of a crime-ridden Gotham City, Keaton makes a brooding Bruce Wayne, who dons his alias as the Caped Crusader to battle The Joker (Jack Nicholson) as the latter generates mayhem that causes others to die laughing — quite literally. The hero also is determined to protect journalist Vicki Vale (Kim Basinger), who inspires unwanted interest from the villain. An enormous success at the box office, the picture also features Billy Dee Williams, Michael Gough, Jack Palance, Robert Wuhl and Pat Hingle ... but as Cesar Romero did in the Joker guise on the 1960s “Batman” television series, Nicholson pretty much steals the show. The music score is by Danny Elfman, with songs by Prince.

“Family Affair” (Catchy Comedy, Mondays through Fridays): Co-star Kathy Garver, alias this show’s Cissy, turns up a lot — and we mean a lot — these days in TV commercials, and some of them play during repeats of this 1966-71 CBS sitcom, for which executive Don Fedderson revised the basic concept that kept “My Three Sons” a hit for him for many years. Bachelor engineer Bill Davis (Brian Keith) takes in his late brother’s children Cissy, Buffy (Anissa Jones) and Jody (Johnny Whitaker), raising them with the sometimes-reluctant help of his stuffy manservant Mr. French (Sebastian Cabot).
