Mayville-Chautauqua Community Chamber of Commerce Announces Dates for the 2022 Mayville Winter Festival The Mayville-Chautauqua Community Chamber of Commerce announces that planning has commenced for the 2022 Mayville Winter Festival they are looking forward to bringing this great event back to the community. After having to cancel the 2021 winter festival due to an uptick in COVID cases, the Chamber’s volunteer committee is excited to be back on track for the coming year. Among new additions to the festival this year is a name change. To simplify the lengthy name and keep it connected to the Mayville area, the festival formerly known as the President’s Day Weekend Winter Festival will now be known simply
as the Mayville Winter Festival. The committee will continue to keep it scheduled during President’s Day Weekend. The dates for the 2022 festival are as follows: Friday February 18, 2022: Opening Ceremonies in the evening with the lighting of the castle along with the crowning of King and Queen. Saturday February 19, 2022: Cold Water Rescue, the Polar Plunge, a Chili Cookoff, the In-Crowd from 5-8 pm, fireworks at 8 pm, along with food trucks, carriage rides, snowmobile rides, ice fishing, vendors, and much more! Sunday February 20, 2022: The 2nd annual Winter Fest 5k, snowmobile rides and
carriage rides, ice fishing, vendors and food trucks, and much more! St. John’s United Church presents Christmas Vespers on Dec. 17 DUNKIRK, NY –St. John’s United Church of Christ, 733 Central Avenue, Dunkirk, will present “Christmas Vespers - the Music of Christmas” on Friday, December 17 at 6:30 pm, featuring pianist Ann Rose and violist David Rose. Ann Rose was born in
South Korea, and started playing the piano at age 5. She began improvising and composing at a very early age - two skills which she pursued through her early training, achieving a degree in Composition and Piano from Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, Canada.
Her teachers have included Sydney Young, Jamie Parker, Glenn Buhr, and Heather Taves. Ann has appeared with the Canadian Chamber ensemble, and has been seen and heard on CBC

Audubon Seeking Children’s Winter Clothes JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – Do you have extra kids’ winter clothes that are looking for a home? One of the biggest challenges to getting children outside during the winter can be the annual cost for families of winter gear for their kids. Audubon Community Nature Center (ACNC) is seeking new or gently-used sweaters, winter coats, snow pants, boots, hats, gloves, and scarves for children in need. Donations are being accepted through the end of the year at a drop-off box by the reception desk at Audubon during regular building hours, Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., and 1 - 4:30 p.m. on Sundays. Like last year when Audubon received a wonderful response to its first clothing
drive, clothes will be given to the Jamestown Community Learning Council (JCLC) for distribution to children in need. JCLC’s mission is to strengthen the capacity of families to nurture, support, and provide for their children’s academic development, emotional growth, and physical well-being by establishing effective relationships between home and school. Audubon Sunday Storytimes Start December 5 JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – Children’s books are powerful tools to connect children to nature and establish a strong foundation for their educational journey. Beginning December 5, 12:30 - 1 p.m., you can join Audubon Community Nature Center (ACNC) Receptionist and storyteller Claire Certo for Sunday Storytime. Each week new nature-based stories will showcase a wide variety of subjects. Christmas Vespers continued from 1 television. The winner of numerous competitions and awards, her music has been performed and recorded by several artists in Canada, most recently by her former teacher and also by her husband, violist David Rose. Ann received her Master of Piano Performance degree from the State University of New York at Fredonia, studying under Father Sean Duggan, as well as a degree in Music Education. She is
the organist at St. John’s UCC in Dunkirk, and teaches choir and general music at Sinclairville Elementary School. She has recently toured the Czech Republic and recorded with fellow pianist Jiří Pazour. David Rose was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. His principal teachers have been Ernest Kassian, Gerald Stanick at the University of British Columbia, and Atar Arad at Indiana University. He was awarded the position of associate principal viola of the Vancouver Symphony. He served for eight seasons as principal violist of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and violist with the Canadian Chamber Ensemble, as well as teaching at the University of Waterloo. David served as the acting assistant principal violist
of the San Francisco Symphony, enjoying involvement in a European tour and the Grammy winning Mahler symphony recording cycle. David plays regularly at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House’s annual Bach and Beyond festival, and has completed a recording of the six cello suites of J.S. Bach. He is currently associate professor of viola at SUNY Fredonia. Also taking part will be Ann and David’s sons, Billy and Manny, with their own musical contributions to the program. Billy is in 12th grade. He was in the 2012 Hillman Opera Gianni Schicchi at SUNY Fredonia; serves as pianist for the Fredonia Central School Jazz Band; plays clarinet and
saxophone; and enjoys reading, movies, and drawing. Manny is in 9th grade and enjoys painting, art, board games, video games, writing, and game design. Both boys study piano with longtime SUNY Fredonia faculty member Phyllis East and were members of the cast of Main Street Studios’ 2021 production of The Tempest in Fredonia.
