Scholarship Available for Students Formerly in Foster Care DUNKIRK, NY – The Northern Chautauqua Comis munity Foundation currently accepting applications for the Reverend Clifford K. Cliver and Lucy Cliver Sumsky Scholarship. The scholarship was established in 2015 by Rev. Cliver to provide fi nancial assistance for higher education to adults who spent time in the foster care system as a child. Rev. Cliver and his sister Lucy grew up as foster children. In Chautauqua County, approximately 100 children are living in foster care today. Rev. Cliver created this scholarship to help those who have spent time in the foster care system to reach their potential by empowering them with educational skills and the tools they need to succeed. “Together, we wanted to increase the resources given to students who have been in foster care as it is vital to their well-being and improving their opportunities,” said Rev. Cliver. This scholarship is awarded annually without regard to the student’s fi nancial circumstances. Eligible applicants are graduates from a school district within Chautauqua County who have spent time in foster care during any period in their youth. Applicants must also be at least 17 years old and be currently a ending or accepted to a end a

“In Living Color” Archive Collection To Be Donated To National Comedy Center JAMESTOWN, NY – The National Comedy Center, the United States’ official cultural institution dedicated to the art form of comedy, announced today that it will be the permanent home of an extensive archive from the groundbreaking sketch comedy series In Living Color, which has been donated by the series’ co-creator and producer Tamara
Rawi . The comprehensive collection of scripts, creative materials, and artifacts illuminates the development, production process, and censorship ba les surrounding the cu ing-edge series, which helped put the fledgling Fox network on the map in 1990. Rawi Tamara collaborated closely with c o me d i a n /a c t o r/ w r it e r
David Alan Grier, Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx and Wayans family siblings Damon, Kim, Shawn and Marlon. With a fresh, fearless, outspoken and inclusive approach to sketch comedy that focused on the Black experience, the series quickly became one of the top-rated shows on Fox, and
Keenan Ivory Wayans on developing the pilot of In Living Color in 1990, a£er initially working with him as a producer on his American blaxploitation parody fi lm I’m Gonna Git You Sucka. The Westfield Fund Accepting Grant Applications DUNKIRK, NY –The Westfield Fund (TWF) is accepting applications for grants from charitable programs and organizations which serve the Westfield community. Grant applications should be submi ed by April 1, 2022. The Westfield Fund is a Community Donor Advised Fund of the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation. Their mission of improving the quality of life for residents of Westfield is fulfi lled through grantmaking to charitable projects and organizations serving the community. WNY Chamber Orchestra continues Classics Series at Fredonia on Feb. 12
The Western New York Chamber Orchestra continues its 2021-22 Classics Series at the State University of New York at Fredonia on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall with the program Classics II. Featured works include John Corigliano’s “Voyage,” Claude Debussy’s "Children's Corner" (arranged by WNYCO Artistic Director and Conductor Glen Cortese) and Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp or Concerto for Flute in G Major. The Western New York Chamber Orchestra is an ensemble in residence at Fredonia. The musicians in the orchestra bring a their
range of talent, training, and experience to the concert hall from throughout Western New York and Northwest Pennsylvania. Their educational backgrounds represent virtually every major school of music and conservatory in the country. Many former WNYCO members are now residents of major symphony orchestras throughout the United States. FREDONIA, NY– The Darwin R. Barker Library at 7 Day Street in Fredonia, New York will exhibit the artwork of Kayla L. Prigg in a show titled “Memories and their Impermanence” from February 19th through March 16th during the library’s regular open public hours. Visitors are invited to meet Prigg during a “Meet the Artist” reception February 19th from 12 noon—2 pm. “Memories and their Impermanence” explores the changing nature of memory and the varying ways mem-
ories fade. Each memory is unique in how it’s remembered, o¦en affected by its relationship to objects and actions. The emotional impact of a memory on an individual directly correlates to how clearly and frequently the memory is brought up as well as the time between the event and the time of recall. This show explores these differences through a variety of pieces. Kayla L. Prigg is a fi ne artist based in Buffalo, New York. She earned her Bachelor of Arts at the State University of New York at
Fredonia. Her work has appeared in exhibitions at the Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery, the Emmi° Christian Gallery, and HallWalls Contemporary Art Center as well as several online galleries including the Buffalo Art Wall, The Vacant Museum, and Light Space Time. CHRIC Receives Funding for Three Home Repair Programs Chautauqua Home Rehabilitation and Improvement Corporation (CHRIC) has been awarded funding by the New York State Office of Community Renewal for three home repair programs designed to assist: 1) seniors who have emergency repair needs, 2) people with health or age related disabilities who need accessibility modifications, and 3) funding dedicated specifically to veterans who need accessibility modifications and/or emergency repairs. RESTORE Chautauqua is available to qualifying lower-income homeowners over the age of 60 who are in need of smaller emergency repairs. Examples could include repairing or replacing a furnace or hot water tank that is not working, repairing stairs or porches to assure safe access in and out of the home, repairs to assure a safe and sufficient supply of water for household use, etc. The maximum available to any one household is $10,000. If the homeowner has received assistance under the RESTORE program in the past, that amount is included in the $10,000 maximum. Only owner-occupied homes can be assisted and the owner of the home must be over the age of 60. The homeowner must be current with their mortgage and property taxes and have homeowner insurance. Income limits depend on household size. Households with greater fi nancial need may be prioritized for assistance if demand for assistance is greater than the available funding. Access Chautauqua, can provide home modifications such as wheelchair ramps, walk-in showers, stair-chair li¦ s or other moderate modifications that will make the home safe to live in, depending on individual needs. The program is available to homeowners throughout Chautauqua County. Only owner-occupied homes can be assisted, although the modifications can be needed by a household member who is not the owner of the home. Income limits continue to increase with household size. Access Chautauqua Heroes, can provide home modifications to anyone who was honorably discharged from any branch of the US military. The need for home modifications does not have to be tied to a service-related injury. If a veteran fi nds that he or she is having some trouble safely accessing their home or using the rooms in their home due to an illness, a non-service related injury, or normal aging, Access Chautauqua Heroes may be able to provide help. The program is available to homeowners throughout Chautauqua County. Only owner-occupied homes can be assisted. The veteran does not need to be the owner of the home, but a veteran must be the person in need of the accessibility modifications. The home must be the veteran’s primary, year-round residence and a copy of the veteran’s Discharge papers will be needed. Again, the homeowner must be current with their mortgage and property taxes and have homeowners insurance. For Access Chautauqua Heroes, the annual household income limit is higher but must be below: household size of one - $58,320; household size of two - $66,720; household size of three - $75,000; household size of four - $83,280. Income limits continue to increase with household size. Households with greater fi nancial need may be prioritized for assistance if demand for assistance is greater than the available funding.
