Opera House Presents The Danish Collector as Part of Art & Architecture On Screen Series

Mental Health Association Receives Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation Grant JAMESTOWN, NY– The Mental Health Association in Chautauqua County (MHA) recently received an $11,000 grant from the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation (NCCF). The grant is to expand and improve MHA services at their Dunkirk location at Grace Lutheran Church, 601 Eagle Street.
The MHA is a peer recovery center offering support groups and individual coaching for people looking to improve their lives,

covering from substance use disorder. They use their personal stories to help people fi nd recovery in their own lives in their own way. For those ba¤ ling addiction, the availability of peer support can mean the difference between overcoming the addiction, relapsing, and possibly even death. Recovery coaches work with individuals to set self-sufficient goals they wish to accomplish. Those goals may include continuing their education, obtaining and maintaining employment, securing permanent housing, and increasing visitation with or
regaining custody of their children. A coach can help with a connection to rehab, treatment, and be a support for recovery. Among these collectors was the visionary Danish businessman Wilhelm Hansen. It was an extraordinary moment in art history, full of drama, intrigue and subterfuge. Hansen amassed a remarkable collection housed at his summer home, Ordrupgaard, on the outskirts of Copenhagen. Fredonia art exhibition features work of more than 100 students FREDONIA, NY — The creativity of more than 100 students at the State University of New York at Fredonia will be on display when the Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery hosts the Fredonia Showcase exhibition from Jan. 18 to Feb. 13. The exhibition features artwork in a variety of mediums: animations, ceramic vessels and sculptures, drawings, experimental videos, graphic design posters, mixed media sculptures, monotypes and monoprints, paintings, photographs, and wood sculptures. A reception will be held on Friday, Jan. 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. Freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors are represented in Fredonia Showcase, with artwork from in-

troductory to advanced art courses. Department of Visual Arts and New Media faculty — Laura Borneman, Linda Cordell, Jason Dilworth, Patrick Foran, Tim Frerichs, Phil Hastings, Stephen Komp, Liz Lee, Hide Sadohara, Alberto Rey, Peter Tucker, Margaret Urban, Liz Van Verth — selected the artwork for the Fredonia Showcase. The department provides a balanced, comprehensive undergraduate program in the practice, theory, and history of the visual arts and new media. It offers both majors and elective students an opportunity to experience the arts as an important and enriching facet of a liberal arts education. The curriculum includes a dynamic mix of studio instruction and practice, lectures, and seminars to prepare students for a career
or advanced study in the visual arts, or simply provide a greater understanding of art and technology’s cultural impact. The Department of Visual Arts and New Media is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and is chaired by art historian and Fredonia alumna Michele Bernatz. The Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery is located on the main level of Rockefeller Arts Center on the Symphony Circle side of the building.
